did any of you have disproportionate fears of demons, and if you are able to, what was your experience in your emotions with these strong fears?
how did knowledge at such a young age affect you with the detailed graphic descriptions given my the published litureture?
were there any publications which freaked you in any way?
(((mega)))
Ack! I am soo sorry to hear your mother fed all of that to you. My goodness. My parents fed me the same line, but obviously not quite as often as your mom. My parents used to tell me if I started feeling scared that singing a kingdom melody would scare the demons away. So I would always sing "We're Jehovah's Witnesses" whenever I was frightened. What's so sad is that there have been many times since then that I've been frightened for one reason or another and that song automatically comes into my head. Then I get even more freaked out! ACK! But I still cannot get over the habit of singing when I'm scared. Haha!

A large city-wide ecumenical service was in progress when someone smelled smoke and yelled "Fire!" Everyone responded in their own individual way...
The Church of Christ group pushed everybody into the water.
The Lutherans nailed a paper to the door declaring 95 ways in which fire was evil.
The Episcopalians formed a liturgical procession and marched out in an orderly manner behind an acolyte.
The Unitarians concluded the fire had as much right to be there as anyone and announced they would add its unique origins to their open celebration of life.
The Christian Scientists elected a reader who gently persuaded them that there really was no fire.
The 7th Day Adventists said it was the vengeance of an angry God.
The Jehovah's Witnesses wrote an article about it and divided into groups to visit all the other denominations and sell copies.
The Presbyterians commissioned a new anthem based on the atonal modalities of the sirens.
The Pentecostals sharply rebuked the fire in unknown tongues.
The Catholics petitioned the Bishop for permission to leave before they had been blessed.
The Christians (Disciples) asked their pastor to stay out of it and referred the fire to the next Board of Elders meeting for a response.
The Methodists gathered in a corner to pray that the traditional profession of firefighting could be peacefully blended with the contemporary nature of the flames.
And the Baptists attempted to appoint three committees and pass an offering plate -- but soon quit speaking to each other after disagreeing whether the word "fire" was a fundamental, moderate or liberal concept.
well, i did it.. it's official and i'm relieved.. the elders wanted to try talking to me once again, but after awhile it was obvious that they were only interested in changing my thoughts not answering any questions.
so, i just calmly asked if i could disassociate myself.
they acted stunned and they got tears in their eyes, but i told them that i had already grieved and was ready to move on with life.

"...skin a cat..."??? Yowza! Bad choice of words for this thread! ((()))
Andi
Bwhahahaha! This thread is totally cracking me up!
I have heard that sex can induce labor. A friend of mine had an orgasm and then 10 minutes later was having labor pains. So much for snuggle time.
Mommy - a whole new meaning to threesome, huh? ((())) This same friend had her kid vaginally and didn't wait for her two weeks to be up. She went back 6 weeks later for her own check up and was preggo AGAIN! Blech. Her kids are literally 10 months apart.

every now and again there is a post that just pulls the rug out from underneath me, and touches a place in my heart.
lauralisa on another thread has accomplished this.
by others who have replied, i can see that they were touched as well.
Thank you for sharing your story LL. I am in tears as I write this. Basically because I know what you went through. Depression was/is? a close companion of mine and has been for years. I still struggle occasionally, but like you, have realized my spirituality is MINE...not based on my friends, church organization, or anyone else. My relationship with God is MINE. It is a relief in many ways! To not have to rely on someone else to dictate what God is saying. He speaks to me through my conscience. He allows me to make my own decisions - good and bad.
I'm so sorry to hear about your brother. I hope to god that my brother (who recently went through a JC) doesn't have to go through what I went through when I was DFed. It scares me to death!!! Watching him go through that pain will hurt my heart more than what I went through.
I'm thankful for your experience lauralisa - not just for the wisdom you've attained, but for the comfort of knowing you care for us enough to share your heart. A heartfelt thank you!
