Hurricane Katrina was so huge, that I doubt you'd be able to see the light of the sky just a few miles away. After having seen an F5 tornado in Kansas, I'd say someone was misrepresenting the photos. Those really look like tornado shots.

Just watching TV and it got to me....
by Sirona inthere is a tv programme on at the moment on itv and it just got to me.
i was surprised but perhaps i shouldn't be.. it was about kids here getting their 16 yr qualifications...they're gcse's for those who are not in the uk.
anyway, it showed a girl getting the same results as me, pretty much a's for all exams, and her family listening to her results and celebrating them.

It's hard isn't it. I am occassionally angered with the fact that I didn't get a lot of support with my education. Both of my parents have degrees, but really discouraged me from getting mine. And if I wanted to go to school, I was on my own for paying for it. Ten years later, what do they do? Not only do they encourage, but PAY FOR both of my brothers to get their degree. WTH??? It's hard work to not be resentful over that, but the joy I get out of it is that my brothers both graduated from college. Hopefully it makes their future brighter. (If they could only get their damn heads out of the WTS clouds!!! A fine education wasted on two boys that are working part-time and peddling magazines full time. Grrr!!!)
I have discovered a few gifts I've been given. I may not have formal education, but formal education doesn't take the place of passion. I have a passion for my gift, so I hope it balances out in the grand scheme of things somehow.

As ex's, it's always OUR fault that the family is divided. I understand all too well. It could have been my very own mom writing those same words.

The people who do show off their money in big ways are more often (tho not always) those who generally don't have much money and use it socially to construct for themselves a "wealthy" veneer and unfortunately blow the money on big showy things like cars or parties and what not. I think too not just of the lower class but also those twentysomething dot-commers who prolly came from middle-class backgrounds and got suddenly wildly rich, only to blow the dough on "starter castles" and limosines and private jets only to see their wealth evaporate when their dot coms turned into dot bombs.
I had a boss once who was VERY comfortable. (Wealthy in my eyes - LOL!) He said the neighborhood he lived in (Frisco, TX) was full of new money and people that didn't know how to manage it. He said if you slowly drove by many of the homes, there is no furniture in some of the front rooms, simply because they couldn't afford to furnish it. He told me of his neighbor who wanted a mural for her family room painted. When she called the painter for an estimate, he quoted around $350 but he didn't take credit cards. She said she couldn't afford it unless she could put it on a card, so she didn't get her mural. This was coming from a woman who lived in a $400,000 home and drove a Lexus SUV, while her teenage kid drove a BMW. And she couldn't afford a $350 mural? I don't get it. *shaking head*
I've always though "old" money was very different from "new" money. Being in the interior design business, even on a part-time basis, has shown me how badly people live beyond their means to keep up that facade. Ridiculous.

I think for me, I've just found my definition of friend is changing. It's not just the girl I work with anymore. It's not just the friend from church I happen to go shopping with or have a cup of coffee with. My definition of friend is a little more DEFINED than it used to be. It's someone I can count on through thick and thin. Someone that will LET me help them when they need help. Someone I can have a disagreement with and know we still love each other. Someone that will share her/his heart with me, trusting me to love them unconditionally. Someone I can share my deepest fears and sorrows with and know it won't be used against me.
Friends ARE harder to find as I get older, but I think it's by my own choice.

Dancing...
by Country Girl ini've been dancing since i was a little girl.
i wish i had someone to dance with.
do you dance?
-
Billygoat
CG,
I'm like you...I LOVE to dance! I'd love to take classes someday. Salsa, tango, ballroom, swing - it ALL appeals to me!
My hubby isn't much of a dancer either. Don't get me wrong - he's wonderful at it when he gets out there...he's just too shy to get out there. I usually have to pour a few drinks into him before he loosens up enough to do it. LOL!
Several weeks ago, we went to a wedding and danced. He didn't at first, but he was fine with me dancing with other partners. One of them was really good and I had a fabulous time. The other wasn't so good, but we had a good time laughing at ourselves. Another time, I wanted to two step and nobody wanted to dance country, so I two stepped by myself to be silly. I had my arm up like I was holding a partner's hand and everything. LOL Mozz sat and watched and laughed and let me have my fun. He's a good sport as long as I am too. I've realized that I cannot expect ONE person to fulfill all my desires. But since he takes care of the really important ones, then I can find other people to partner with me on my whims like dancing.
Next time we have an apostofest, I'll dance one or two with ya!

by MerryMagdalene ini couldn't have been more surprised!.

((((Merry))))
So sorry to hear about the call. I've been waiting for close to 15 years, but it's not going to happen I'm afraid. You can see the disappointed in my writing, can't you?
A dub was telling me with great pride about her experience doing street witlessing. She approached a woman and initiated a conversation.
The woman said - "I'm a christian. Are you a christian?" The answer:
"NO (!!!!!) I'm one of Jehovah's Witnesses."
What else needs to be said?
LMAO! Oh gawd...too funny!
