true - but I would like to know what life was like before I was 5. I remember nothing before I was at school!

Thanks for all your comments. I was glad to see I wasn't the only one with reservations about giving and receiving blood.
Blondie your comments were reassuring - that procedures are better etc. I expect we all remember being told about how the Starsky and Hutch guy's wife and child died of AIDs from contaminated blood, and the ocassional stories we do hear about similar cases do make me concerned.
Now I would take blood if my life depended on it, I would have reservations but I would. Not sure if I would donate. Some things are just to deeply programed.....
I'm kind of with prophecor and Jula71 and those others who feel that this particular thing has been really drilled in and it would be hard to see differently.
I think I probably drink too much for my blood to be of much use to anyone and other "recreational activities" of my past may also make it unwise for me to donate. I have stopped carrying around my No Blood card though and I have would definitely be prepared to have my organs donated after death if they could be of any use to anyone.
I also am grateful for the comments re bone marrow donation - I have recently been to a talk regarding this and am considering doing this, but as it will involve being unable to work for at least a week, it probably won't be this year.

Do you think a 7 and 9 year old kid should have a cell phone?
by Eyebrow2 inokay...so many of you know that i have two stepdaughters....great kids, 7 and 9. currently they are living with us.
now, when they, or one of them is with their mom, it is like pulling teeth to get her to answer the phone or call back when we leave a message to talk to the girls.
there was one period of time that my husband went almost 10 months without getting to talk to his oldest daughter when she was with her mom.

Do I think young children need to be on the phone talking to their friends all the time? No.
It is primarily for safety. There are only 4 numbers programmed into the phone, my mobile, her Dad's mobile, her grandparents mobile (they live 800 miles away and adore getting little texts from her telling them what she is up to when she comes to visit us) and our home number.

I couldnt put up posters of Michael Jordan because, gasp, it was idolotry!!
I wasn't allowed to put up pictures of Daisy Duke (Duke's of Hazzard) or Face (A Team) who I fancied equally (the signs were there for me early on). But I was allowed to put pictures up of animals and birds until they covered every last sqaure inch of woodchip. It was idolatry to have people up there because that would be idolatry like you said - but it wasn't idolatry to have animals because they were God's creations. Only now do I see the blatant contradiction and also if you are going to believe in God - it's Daisy's legs that are going to convince you surely!

Bo Bice out of American Idol has a F***Me voice.
But just to show I am not completely musically unsound then can I add Suzanne Vega and Melanie whilst adding my applause to Preston's comments re Anthony Hopkins, who may not sing, but he does talk on the Hannibal soundtrack.
And also spanish singer Lole (in particular Tu Mira from Kill Bill 2) - its not so much melting as makes all my hairs stand on end! Imagine!

I don't think anyone told the bible writers about Orwell's rule for fiction:
Never use two words when one will do!
