I loved the earlier poster's description of one whole side of the Kingdom Hall that had absolutely no windows and consisting only of an exterior wall. Now, if the JWs could just carry that windowless theme all the way around the entire building, the numberless ambivalent hangers-on would have the perfect excuse not to go to meetings: "Oh dear, we can't get inside".

The small size of KH windows
by helios init was only a few days ago when driving through a small town in the uk i noted a kh.
nothing unusual except that one side wall was totally devoid of anything.
the other side of the building revealed three very small windows, and i mean small.

Hey people,
What great lyrics and good hearts - especially reading them in the context of the shared but diverse experiences of the JWs.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
by whyamihere inas a child, what did you want to be, when you became an adult?
if you could, would you want to go back in time, and become what you wanted to be in the first place?.
as a child, i wanted to be a florist.

What did I want to be when I grew up? Alive!
So, in order to achieve this laudable goal, I left the JWs. Beats being among the living dead.

Judicial commities in Brazil
by gringojj ini asked a similar question a couple days ago and the thread went off course.
my question is does anyone know how the wts hold is kept over the people in the rapidly growing areas of the world?
i would imagine the hold they have over the people there is less.

As more time passes, I think the strict hold the GB claims to have over the rank and file will diminish. I saw some quotes in the press recently from the man who claimed to be a JW and a lawyer for Michael Jackson. His views were noticably unJWish. I also think that JWs in general are much more relaxed nowadays about refering to their religion as a "church" something that would absolutely never have occurred even a few years ago.
The JW faith is primarily about appearances; scratch just below the surface and all the old ways and beliefs ooze out.

Question for elders
by gringojj ini am trying to think of a good question to ask and elder that would be really tough for them to answer.
something hard to spin.
after alot of thought one good one i came up with is this.

why would Charles Russell be one of the anointed ruling in heaven since he obviously believed some wrong teachings which some were his own
Littlerockguy, you're far too kind. "He [Russell] obviously believed some wrong teachings..." Some??
I'd place the percentage much higher than that. The bulk of his Biblical interpretations turned on Christ returning to rule in 1874; oh, and I almost forgot, didn't Russell also teach that the last days started in 1799 or some such date (I may be wrong on this latter point). Russell was about as wrong as anyone could be and what amuses me is, the assumption he's up there helping guide the current worldwide work by JWs . Perhaps that's why it's in such a mess.

Obviously they did whatever they were doing wrong while in the office of FDS, so could they have been giving us tainted messages? Could they still be now?
Two powerful questions!
A literal reading of history - including especially the Hebrew and Greek Scriptures - shows that apostasy has its most potent flowering within the "chosen" people themselves: Look at lone Ezekiel's warnings to God's then people.
Now, the way in which Watchtower sees itself as above apostasy - which would indeed be a unique historical occurrence - is a startling clue that the Watchtower is itself prone to "apostasy".

Disfellowshipping somewhat voluntary?
by Fatfreek inisn't being disfellowshipped or disassociated a voluntary thing, in one sense?
i mean, when a person is deemed by the judicial committee as truly repentant, there are less harsher disciplinary steps.
in cases where there is no remorse, yes, the committee has no choice.

Doesn't all of this demonstrate how vulnerable to individual personalities and prejudices most, if not all, forms of human judgement are, including that of the Watchtower? I used to think the JWs in general, and the elders in particular, were above the crippling legalistic pettiness they accuse others of displaying . How naive I was.
How laudible then that many "wordly" governments have provision for independent commissions of inquiry, or ombudsmen, as protections against human error and power abuses - provisions scarily absent from the Watchtower.

What's happened to the Kingdom Smile?
Didn't you know that, in recent years, it's been turned on its head and now resembles a Kingdom Scowl?

If you're born into the religion, raised in it and baptised as a young teenager, only to realise as an older adult that you don't believe it, of course you may voluntarily leave. However, you may find it very difficult to believe that the cause and consequence of your leaving "invites" your being now treated like a dead person.
