I'm not prone to paranoia - at least I don't think I am - but isn't the actual shape of that hurtling stone changing from publication to publication? Perhaps someone who is familiar with the nongravitational impact of hurtling objects in outer space can enlighten me? I suspect, though, that the stone is changing shape because it has been repeatedly forced to slow down on its trajectory due to the governing body getting it the end time dates so wrong. That must be hell of a frustrating for the stone.

This is not a caption, but a reflection:
Isn't it instructive that the Watchtower advised JWs earlier this year that the Awake! magazine was going to published once monthly from next year, down from twice monthly at present, and that the emphasis was now going to be on promoting more biblical topics.
Call me picky, but the latest cover topic is as far removed from Biblical topics as you could get: The end is so very near that who has time to devote to mere physical exercise?
Hey, jogging JW family: Get back home right away and change back into your crimpilene clothes. While there's still daylight, there's more door-knocking to do. Hey! Come back! That's no excuse for running even faster away from home...Modern-day JWs just don't have what it takes...any old excuse to distract themselves from door-knocking...physical exercise indeed...I can't see you for dust.

Generation of 1914 gone!
by Gill inis the generation that saw 1914, now dead and gone?.
if they were born in 1900, they'd be 105 now and there are not many of these people left.. if they were born in 1914 they'd be 91 and there are not many of these left either.. can we say that the early light of russell and rutherford, and nathor knowrr is well and truly disproved?.
can we say it's just a matter of time before the new light is also disproved?.

The final sealing of the remaining ones of 144,000 anointed ones draws near
Trouble is, the boys from Brooklyn are always raising the ceiling.
Here it comes...no, wait, it's coming now...this time we really mean it....hold on, don't get impatient...some have lost faith...it's a sure sign it's now...God's truth...it's coming...ad infinitum

Elders will not marry couple
by Nosferatu inmy mother has a friend in another congregation.
she has been dating, and is wanting to marry.
here's where the "problem" comes in.... the guy is 20, she is 33. the elders have decided that they should interfere.
-

Well, all I can say is that, if this couple listen to this elder and don't marry until the stipulated time period has elapsed, they're both kind of proving they're not ready (at least in terms of emotional maturity) to marry regardless of how long they're advised to wait.

If you do something contrary to what the bible teaches, how do you react?
by JH inso many verses in the bible are so clear.
example: don't steal, don't fornicate, don't have sex with a person of the same sex....etc.
some verses couldn't be clearer.

There are PLENTY of people who read the bible and don't go around shunning family and friends, living with huge regret, and acting abnormally. We just happened to have our lives sucked into a cult that taught us to do all of the above.
I kind of agree. I was also being a bit selective. Your point could be also usefully applied to sacred texts of the world's religions, including the Koran, the book of Mormon etc.

ARE JW SISTERS ALLOWED TO CARRY COFFINS?
by steve2 inrecently i was amazed to read in another thread that jw females are not even allowed to walk up and down the aisles counting those in attendance.
the poster said jw women literally "don't count" - a brilliant play on words.
i guess i had never thought about it before, but it got me wondering about all the behind-the-scene work jw females do, but their invisibility in the public arena.

Really helpful replies to my question. Thanks.
By the way, What's the main difference between a Kingdom Hall meeting and a Kingdom Hall funeral?
Answer: There is usually only one dead body at the funeral.

Witnesses and alcoholism
by Grace inmy jw husband has made me promise to let him die rather than approve a blood transfusion because of bible doctrine; however, the same bible speaks against alcoholism and drunkeness and yet he continues to drink and sometimes gets absolutely smashed.. last night we were at a non-jw staff party for my place of employment, and he lost any shred of dignity through his heavy drinking.
we got home at 3 a.m. and he jumped out of bed at 8:20 and said, "i have to get to book study; i'm reading today.
(it behooves me how he can do this time and again without even taking so much as an asparin!).

When he comes home from field service, he pours himself a drink before doing anything else. This at noon on a Saturday!
One of the hallmark signs of problem drinking is the time of day that the individual drinks; namely, the earlier in the day the first drink is consumed, the more problematic the drinking pattern. Noon on a Saturday may be understandable in terms of its being the weekend; but in the context of daily use, it's another sure sign .
From a different perspective, however, even non-drinkers would probably empathise with the individual needing a drink after being exposed to field service. Mind you, I give your husband credit that he doesn't have a drink before field service. Perhaps there are even more people who could understand having a drink before the dreaded door-knocking duty!
