My mother told me that the reason Ray Franz was disfellowshipped was that he had become a 'Pentescostal' and 'those people are always out to get the Witnesses.'

I have a son aged 19. He's a bit of a handsome devil at the best of times and the young ladies have always been ... how can I put it nicely.... fond of him. But having said that he's always very friendly with everyone.
We used to go to a congregation a few miles from where we live now when he was a tiny child and he was friendly with the kids there. He also went to college with a young girl whose father is an elder at this congregation. Anyway she's aware that we've 'faded' away from the JW's but she still texts and emails my son most days and vice versa.
She belongs to a seriously fanatical JW family, all pioneers, elders, MS's, no spiritual rif raf allowed and she says she has been pressured into pioneering and does not want to be a JW. She is baptised but has emailed to say that her family have gone 'crazy' at her because she's put christmas decorations up in her room. Not surprising, huh!
I am sure that to this young girl it would be a disaster to be disfellowshipped and shunned by her family so I have told my son not to encourage her one way or another to drop the JW's but I do feel very strongly sorry for her.
Any suggestions people?
Advice would be much appreciated!

Removed from being an elder for being over weight?
by frankiespeakin inin the waterbury conneticut area there was a circut overseer named caramelous (greek name not sure of spelling).
this brother more than 30 years back was having all the congregation servants removed because they where over weight.
i guess they used not moderate in habits (eating too much) as a scriptural reason.

The presiding overseer of the congregation we used to go to once saw a certain new sister in town shopping. She was wearing cycle shorts despite being very overweight. He stopped his car, ran up to her and told her that she was not dressed as a christian should be and certainly not how an obese person should be dressed.
She immeadiately disassociated herself and said she NEVER wanted to hear of the witnesses again.
The elder was no 'slim jim' himself and neither was his wife which was the more shocking thing.

something in crisis of conscience i didnt know about... that shocked me
by candidlynuts inon page 164- 166 , in the chapter titled " double standards" subheading " two sorts of weights for measuring".
the administration of the headquarters of jehovah's witnesses many decades ago decided that, because of the exsisting law, jehovah's witnesses in mexico would present themsevles , not as a religious organization, but as a "cultural" orginazation.
the local corporation there formed " la torre del vigia, was so registered with the government of mexico(footnote).

Hi Candidilynuts and everyone,
There's still one thing that I just don't get though and keeps troubling me. So they didn't register as a religion in Mexico because of the land registration, and we all agree that this is a maximising profits operation. But why? Are there any shareholders? Is any one in particular or any group in particular making big bucks out of this operation? Really why and for who? This is one big, big business but what's the motive?
It's got to be seriously twisted to be making money for money's sake and not be benefiting from it yourself. The purpose of being in business is profit and that's fair enough. But what's their motive?
WHERE IS THE MONEY AND WHY?
They're an organization that doesn't give a fig for their member's physical welfare so what are they doing with it all?
Who is holding the purse strings?

Can YOU Determine A "Real Apostate" From A "Fake Apostate"?
by minimus inso often , on this board, we see imposters claiming to be interested in learning the truth about the "truth".
they may seem to genuinely want to know things and they might ask thought-provoking questions.....so how do you know if the person you're dealing with is the real deal or not??
any tips to help us know who those "fake apostates" are??

Gill
I've had a look at the label in the back of my knickers and it says 'REAL APOSTATE'. patented.
Now I just have to make sure my mother doesn't see my washing!

Has the Bible Played a Role in Male Domination of Women?
by frankiespeakin ini know that many feel the bible teaches equality between the sexs.
but an honest look without any fear of god what do we find??.
i think the bible has played a prominant role.
-
Gill
It certainly played a role in my father's constand bullying of my mother and why she always stayed under his thumb. He has ruined her life and if she hadn't been a christian all her life, first a Roman Catholic and then a JW she would have probably left him a few months after they had been married.
The message I always got from the bible and the JW's is that women are weaker, should shut up and not have an opinion. If they wanted to know something scriptural they were to ask their superior husbands first.
The bible does not treat women equally in a way that ordinary simple people could understand.
Wives should be in submission to their husbands is a recipe for bullying and unhappiness'

Something to make you feel old.
by gumby inwanna feel like an old bastard?.
here's something to make you feel old... .
put your birth date in the pop up window after you click on the link below.. .
-
Gill
Sorry for not playing Gumby, but you can't make me feel old.
I only have to look in the mirror and people still think I'm my 22 year old daughter's sister!
Only sensible thing my mother ever taught me was to take lots of vitamins all my life. Seems it's finally paying off dividends!
Smug fat head that I am!

How did you feel when you learned it was all a lie?
by what_Truth? inbit of background.
i grew up as a jw i left the church when i was 14 because a ministerial servant who was conducting a one on one baptism study with me said that i couldn't ballance my dreams of being a professional singer with the so called "truth".
i stopped the study and told my mom i no longer wanted to be a witness.

Very angry at first and then a little less so.
Finally, very relieved that it was all rubbish and then very happy.

Jehovah Witness struck by lighning while entering a Catholic church.
by hubert inwell, it's not true yet, that i know of, but according to the beliefs and fears of j.w.
's this should be the headlines every week if it's the "truth".. i've heard stories of ex-j.w.
's believing they would be struck by lightning if they went into a catholic church.

He he HE must have missed me then. I've been all the way to the top of St Peter's in Rome.
I do remember being told that I had to stand outside the church by a fellow witness when we were invited to the wedding of a work colleague. We stood there like a pair of twits making a right spectacle of ourselves!
But, we did believe that it was an offence that could lead to a public reproval at the KH.

How Did You Keep The Watchtower Bible & Tract Society In Business?
by minimus inlooking back, i realized that the last couple of years before i left, i pretty much stopped donating to the "worldwide work".
if i was "reminded" at a convention that we should "give freely", i might've given some cash, but usually i didn't....what about you?
?

Minimus..Strange but unfortunately true.
There was a very elderly sister in our congregation, died about 18 years ago and she left all of her money to the congregation and the society. She was also one of the annointed. She had no children .
Several elderly sister who have died without families have also done the same and some have just left a proportion. I have relatives who have died and apart from immeadiate family who received their estates they also left substantial amounts to the Society, though not to the congregation.
The thing with Hannahs grandmother, is that the rest of her family were Roman Catholic and only the grandmother was JW and in that country there is no love lost between the RC's and the JW's.
