Special Meeting - New Work Announced
by ozziepost init is reported that a special meeting has been held of all the district overseers in the usa and the new york city circuit overseers at which it was announced that the field ministry would now be changed until further notice, effective immediately.
for the time being no literature is to be offered or the suggested offer.
the publishers are to advise each householder that due to recent events we are not engaging in our regular work, we are offering comfort where needed from the bible to help cope with the tragedy.

My JW Mothers' Words Of "Love"
by Ranchette inwell, i just received a letter from my mom and i dont know how to describe my feelings at this time.
i thought id share parts of it with you and see what yall think.
i will delete names and add my own words in parenthesis to describe whom shes talking about.. after a few lines of small talk she says this..........i do want to tell you, since (you and your husband) have rejected the truth, i am so glad (your son) is not old enough to join or be drafted into the military.

I feel you Ranch, really I do. My mother is just as 'loving' but minus the letters. I work right next to the WTC and she hasn't call me yet to see how I'm doing. At first it didn't bother me, but when everybody else, from my old job workmates to old friends (all 'Worldly) called me, it dawn on me that she didn't inquire. If the WTC event shows me anything it's that the 'Worldly' people are the ones with a better brand of love. It also reminds me of PLH post about her trip to the meeting when the CO spoke about 'taking care of your aging mother only if you HAVE to. In any event, as an above post said 'they really feel like they are doing the right thing.' Which only makes you see how 'cultish' and evil the BORG is.
As Tupac said "Keep your head up."

Ofcourse :) I'm down with the original hip hopper's b4 lyrics, when it was break drancers, loud music in the parks, street fashion, etc.
So naturally I like KRS-ONE, who is the conscieousness of rap. During my Society years I didn't really listen to rap, but some songs I cound not resist listening 2 i.e. 'Brand New Flavor in Your Ears' (Craig Mack/ Bad Boy Family), 'Vapors' (Biz Markie), 'Cross Over' (Eric B - Rakim.) My all time rappers are: Biggie Smalls, KRS-ONE, Tupac & Rakim. What impresses my about the rap world is the lyrics, not the lyrical content but the ability to tell a story in poetic form. Speaking of lyrics in that sense, Jay-Z is untouchable. I just wonder - All those guys I mentioned are reported to writing their own lyrics, but those lyrics are so crafty I fine it hard to believe they penned them all. As far as producers - Dr. Dre and P. Diddy are the best. P. Diddy did his best work with Biggie Smalls. Oh, Rza (Wu-Tang)gets props 4 his beats. Speaking of Wu-Tang, when I was an Elder, one of the Elders told me that a youth in our Hall wanted to 'be down' with Wu-Tang. In my ignorance I said 'What's a Wu-Tang?' He was baffled that I didn't know. He said - you have kids you'll find out. Needless to say I did plenty of catching up when I left the BORG :)
On a different note - I heard that Lil Kim studied or was a JW and that Biggie's mother is still a JW.
I love rap but what I don't love is the fact that many young people try to live that life. I'm old enuff to see it for what it is - entertainment. Rap brings me back to my teenage years, it's the
music i grew up with. Sure, I hate how the lyrics that degrade women, the liberal use of the N word and the materialism, but that comes with the music. I'm sure one day I'll say 'enuff' but in the mean while I'll continue to listen to rap responsibly.
Finally I hate the 'business' of rap and the videos. The rappers that should be No. 1 (KRS-ONE) are black listed b/c of their positivity. The radio stations control who gets heard and who doesn't, keeping the truly talent rappers out of the loop. The videos - Well, it's the same thing - T & A. With all the issues that African Americans are faced with, not to mention, given an audience of over a million people (mostly youths) why degrade your own people when you can EDUCATED them about the injustices? I understand it's all about what the Music Execs want, but the rappers have to put their foot down and stand on principle.
So in answer to your question, Yes, i'm into rap music but I'm also into changing it's content. In the mean while, see rap for it's entertainment value and please don't try to live that life. And have an open ear to ALL TYPES OF MUSIC.Hollar Back Ya Heard Me - Larry :)

Why the disaster will hurt the WTS in the long run
by Seeker injws have been excited about events last week.
their sensibilities have been fine-tuned to expect armageddon at any moment, and last week's events seem extreme enough to lead to one thing after another.. i think these events will hurt the wts in the long run.
consider the typical long-term jw.

Seeker - I have to agree with you for the most part b/c most JW's are ignorant to world history. This 9/11 event, for me, is just history repeating itself, they think current events are unique. On the other hand it may help them b/c as history repeats itself, they may have a new 'generation' of followers - a post 9/11 generation, using this event to change the 'time of the end' prophecy so they can have a cushion of another 100 years of failed predictions :)

Greetings - Hot topic indeed! Good points on both sides. This debate will go on forever b/c like most controveries it's largely a political issue. However, there are many folks who sincerely believe in the cause.
I live in NYC and grew up in the 'ghetto' (Harlem & The Lower East Side) and most African Amercicans I know don't really need any reparation money (or any other hand outs), I think it's the principle they/we are concerned about.
As WEB Dubois said at the start of the 20th century - the biggest problem in America is the race issue. The same is true 100 years later. Whether folks want to admit it or not, there is such a thing call 'white privilege' and 'racial profiling.' When people see me, they first see a 'black man' and a 'man' second. If you thought African American were profiled, wait and see how much Middle Eastern folks will be profiled :-( This prejudice is nothing new, In fact, it's human nature. If it's not skin color it'll be something else.
When folks discuss reparations seriously they aren't talking about monitary gains but other gains to 'level a playing field' that has been lopsided for over 200 years. We can pull ourselves up by 'the bootstrips' all we want, but for the most part, there will always be some resistance to our progress. Again, it's human nature - if Blacks had the power over Whites, they would do all they can do to keep it.
Reparatons is not a cure all, but it's a start in the healing process. What makes this issue such as sensitive one is the fact that it has never really been discuss. Whenever it's brought up people what to 'whitewash' it.
It reminds me of the BORG - If they would be honest and say 'OK we lied to you, God is not using us, we apologize for thousands of people dying b/c of our rules/policies, your bible interpetions are just as good as ours' then they wouldn't have so many enemies, folks could respect them and see them for what they are - some type of club/cult, join it you want. But instead they put the blame on their members for any hardships or crisis in conscieous experienced and demonized or alienate the member for thinking independantly. The same applies to America (can you beleive they walked out of a world conference on racsim?) They continuely disrepect African Americans for centuries and expect them to forget about it. It ain't happen - Proper closure is a must.
In any event, this WTC tragedy helps me to see what's really important in life - and that's life itself whether it's black or white.
Peace (wishful thinking)

Terrible tradgedy - more deaths...
by Simon innot the terrible act of terrorism that we all saw on tv.... i was thinking of the 30,000 children under the age of 5 who will have died on the same day from malnutrition and other preventable diseases.
slow, horrible deaths.
these people are poor but the parents must love them as much as any 'rich westener' loves theirs.. the real tragic thing is that another 30,000 will die today and another 30,000 tomorrow... over 12 million a year in total .

Muslim Clerics spiritually support terrorists
by Spartacus ini'm still numb.
what i don't understand, why some muslim clerics spiritually support terrorists.
obviously some of the terrorists were men who have families and well educated, some who are saudis (born with money) offered themselves as martyrs and think they are going to heaven.

Always enjoy your post.
We were martyrs as formal JW's - we would have died for the blood issue, war issue or loyalty issues. As a formal JW I can understand the martyrdom mentally very clearly.Peace my brother,
