a former member said that elders told a relative of his after she was dfed that they would not be praying for her.
is that some kind of policy, or were they just doing their own thing in that instance?
taot.
Yes, stumbling is the universal answer when there is no scripture or worse it is supposed to be a "conscience matter." Even if it is only one person, rest of the congregation must dance to their tune; and of course, the elders will never name the person that might be stumbled or what that person's reasoning might be.
My experience, most often it was that particular elder's wife who did not like something I was doing. I would just point out the elders and/or their wives who were doing the same thing. Then it was dropped.
Of course, if you were the person who was "stumbled," you were told to overlook it and wait on their god to correct it.

I wonder where that idea came from, Rattigan350, that the sign made NYrs proud. The people in Brooklyn Heights found the WTS an irritant reading the Brooklyn newspaper, The Eagle. Just wondering. I don't think people in Manhattan were proud every day they saw the WT sign.
if the wording & context of a scripture is dismissed at the outset, then every statement and assumption which follows is implicititly false.
in the very first study article, the gibbering body continues to indoctrinate the sheeple to accept that over 500 people met jesus on the mountain - despite the blatant fact that 1 corinthians 15:6 says absolutely nothing about the 500 people being anywhere near galilee!
(matthew 28:16-20) however, the 11 disciples went to galʹi·lee to the mountain where jesus had arranged for them (the 11 disciples) to meet.
Rattigan350, you comment made me remember, that this phrase: father, son, holy spirit in this context does not appear anywhere else in the NT.

Wow, wouldn't want that group to show at my door trick or treating. :)

Hi Diogenesister,
The WTS does this all the time. They will say, "the Bible does not say" but....then goes on to say what they think as if their thoughts are their god's thoughts.
Isaiah 55:8 (RNWT)
8 “For the thoughts of YOU people are not my thoughts, nor are my ways YOUR ways,” is the utterance of Jehovah.
Example: (2018)
https://wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/402018321?q=%22the+bible+does+not+say%22&p=sen
The Bible does not say that a person should get baptized at a specific age. But...So from the time their children are born, parents should teach them with the goal of helping them to dedicate themselves to Jehovah and become disciples of Christ. Of course, babies do not qualify to get baptized. Still, the Bible shows that even young children can understand and love Bible truth.
Got our winter-themed inflatable yard decoration today. My husband was so happy, he set it up last night in the house to make sure it worked. He loves the sign. No hint of Christmas, can be used at the first snowfall until that last flake melts away.
He is already planning the turkey and pumpkin pie for US Thanksgiving, he's the cook in our family; I am the assistant and/or backup cook. I can't get him out of the kitchen. When we were first married, I kicked him out of the kitchen and said I would do the cooking. He sat in the living room and pouted as he watched the baseball game drinking a beer. So I gave in, it was not hard. He's such a good cook.
erikson's stages of psychosocial development include this fifth stage:.
"the fifth stage of erik erikson's theory of psychosocial development is identity vs. role confusion, and it occurs during adolescence, from about 12-18 years.
during this stage, adolescents search for a sense of self and personal identity, through an intense exploration of personal values, beliefs, and goals.".
I admit that I had an unusually hard time as a teenager having a pedophile father, an alcoholic and a verbally and emotionally abusive mother, and then the isolation imposed on me through the WT dictates/dogma.
But step by step I dealt with those issues, found a way to get free and grow and learn about myself. The first two clouded over the 3rd one, so when the cloud started to lift, I realized that I had one more thing to battle. Because I succeeded handling the first 2, I was confident that I would the third. It was not an overnight thing, but an accumulation of little steps in the right direction.
I realized that I was not doomed, with no hope of changing my situation.

Hi Vidiot,
that the actual authors of the Old Testament themselves specifically wrote Genesis as figurative, instead.
Isn't that the Catholic view of Genesis now?
