(“watchtower”), requesting that the supreme court review a case filed by the zalkin law firm in 2013. in the case of jw v. watchtower bible and tract society of new york, inc. et.

  al., the riverside superior court of california awarded the plaintiff, “j.w.,” a judgment of $4,016,152.39 plus interest at 10% per year after terminating watchtower’s defense, because it refused to obey the court’s order to produce files of known child molesters within the jw organization.

  in 2018, the fourth district court of appeal in california upheld that decision.

  Rattigan, I thought you were talking about non-jw residents and visitors of and to NYC being proud, not jws. I agree that jws treated visiting Bethel like Muslims viewing going to Mecca.

  It's a long way from the days when the WTS said that if they had to ask for money, it meant that their god was no longer blessing them.

  Or the comments by the WTS about other religions that had weekly collection baskets sent around during their meetings, or tithing showed that money was important to these religions than the people's spirituality. That contributions should be voluntary and confidential. Yet more and more the WT is laying out a guilt trip for jws if they don't donate. But as long as it remains relatively confidential, the WTS will not succeed. As one elder once said from the platform, it was easier for an individual jw to break one of the ten commandments than to break a twenty (speaking about tipping at restaurants during the convention).

  The insert in the May 1980 issue of Our Kingdom Service provided good direction on the matter of tipping. It is not against Christian principles to express appreciation in this way for personal services rendered by others. (Luke 10:7) Although this is a personal matter, to neglect doing so where it is expected may cast unfavorable reflections upon Jehovah’s people. To illustrate: The manager of a motel who cooperated with the convention personnel and arranged for many of our brothers and sisters to stay in his facility expressed concern over a problem that developed. The waitresses in his employ had told him that they did not want to wait on Jehovah’s Witnesses as they left no tips. On one occasion, a party of Jehovah’s Witnesses arrived just before the restaurant was to close. Arrangements were made for this group to sit together and be served, despite the fact that the workers had to stay after closing time to do so. It was reported that the only tip left was a copy of a pocket-size book that was released earlier that week at the convention. While so-called fast-food eating establishments do not provide waiter service and no tipping is involved, in restaurants where such service is provided it is left to the brothers to consider leaving a tip where this is the local custom.

  Narcissist non-jw father, narcissistic jw mother.

  Yes, definitely my parents were worse. With you more time everyday, have way more control legally over your life, children are more emotionally attached/dependent on parents. It is easier to leave an organization than to put permanent distance and contact between you and your parents. People are always suggesting you should forgive and makeup with your parents just because they are sperm and egg donors; and not knowing the details and not entitled to them to judge if you have made the right decision.

  I am not officially shunned, but family members shunned us when we were still believing, husband elder, me pioneer.

  elders wont pray for someone?

  a former member said that elders told a relative of his after she was dfed that they would not be praying for her.

  is that some kind of policy, or were they just doing their own thing in that instance?

  Yes, stumbling is the universal answer when there is no scripture or worse it is supposed to be a "conscience matter." Even if it is only one person, rest of the congregation must dance to their tune; and of course, the elders will never name the person that might be stumbled or what that person's reasoning might be.

  My experience, most often it was that particular elder's wife who did not like something I was doing. I would just point out the elders and/or their wives who were doing the same thing. Then it was dropped.

  Of course, if you were the person who was "stumbled," you were told to overlook it and wait on their god to correct it.

  I wonder where that idea came from, Rattigan350, that the sign made NYrs proud. The people in Brooklyn Heights found the WTS an irritant reading the Brooklyn newspaper, The Eagle. Just wondering. I don't think people in Manhattan were proud every day they saw the WT sign.

  if the wording & context of a scripture is dismissed at the outset, then every statement and assumption which follows is implicititly false.

  in the very first study article, the gibbering body continues to indoctrinate the sheeple to accept that over 500 people met jesus on the mountain - despite the blatant fact that 1 corinthians 15:6 says absolutely nothing about the 500 people being anywhere near galilee!

  (matthew 28:16-20) however, the 11 disciples went to galʹi·lee to the mountain where jesus had arranged for them (the 11 disciples) to meet.
