I did when I was 18 and going through the motions with the JW's so that my mother wouldn't throw me out of the house. I couldn't take the pressure anymore. I am so thankful that I was't successful, they aren't worth my life.

i remember one of my childhood friends was found dead and the police said he committed suicide.
i just could not believe it because my friend was a "devout" jw almost franatical about it.
now years later since i have seen both sides of the coin i am beginning to wonder if my friend did indeed kill himself.

i understand there is a ton of anger out there toward the wts and dub's, and rightly so... what i don't understand is this notion that there is an evil conspiracy on the part of the wts and dubs as individuals to subjugate and control the unwary (or however you want to label us) for some evil sinister purpose.
i know what they are doing and agree it's wrong but to what purpose- i mean you can look at televangelist and see what's up with them (follow the money).
but what's up with the dub's.
I wouldn't say that I believe they are behind closed doors plotting evil. In fact, I believe they think what they are doing is God's will. The only reason I have any anger or resentment at all toward the JW's now is because of the damage it inflicted to my family. If it wasn't for the practice of shunning, I wouldn't even feel the need to be on this board right now. Freedom of religion is just that, FREEDOM. If people want belong to an organization that operates by enforcing a group mentality driven by fear, then so be it, but leave my family in tact, please.

the only jw i still have contact with is my mother, mainly due to the fact that she is close with my 12-yr old son.
she is single (divorced actually), cleans for a living, if that's what you can call it and has no other children.
while she doesn't shun me per se, she certainly isn't overly friendly and keeps most of our communication limited to grandkid info.

Anyway . . .I've been thinking more and more recently- what is going to happen when she is incapacitated and can no longer work? Who is going to take care of her? What if she ends up needing nursing care down the road? Or live-in assistance? Who is she going to turn to for financial and physical help? The witnesses aren't going to help (not in my experience anyway). None of them would take her into their home. Is this MY responsibility as a 'shunned' child? Is she going to come to ME after not wanting me in her life and ask for my help? I'm half tempted to pose this to her. If she treats me like *(&^ now, don't you dare come to me down the road when you need help. Am I being unreasonable here? Thanks for listening to me vent, I don't know why I am so bothered again all of a sudden.

i'm so excited!
i have a cold though!
i'm getting my son an airhockey table!
It's not my first, but I have to say I enjoy each Christmas more than the last! I love the festiveness . . and the music . . . and the gifts . . . you get my point.
honestly, are you a better person now or were you a "better" person when you were a jw?
Definitely better. I live a far more moral and upstanding life now that I am out.
boy!
(passes out fine cigars to all that want one).
we are 5 months along and due may 8th.
That's wonderful, congratulations!!

i was talking with my mom the other day and we got on the subject of my father's funeral.
it old her that one of the reasons my son did not ever want to go back to the kh was because of how i was shunned, even at my dad's own funeral.. she said "i know, he just doesn't understand" - i replied "no - he knows why - he just doesn't believe that's what jesus would have wanted".
she had no response to that.
Way to go, that's a great comeback (will have to store that away for future reference).

just wondering if they have their own site and forums.
i haven't gone looking myself, obviously.
i didn't know if this type of setting was a big no-no.

oh man, this is hilarious.......a friend of mine who left the borg a few years ago and is now df'd, was making a delivery (he's a truck driver) to a company where they're all witnesses.
he knew they were dubs, but they had no idea he used to be one.
as he was finishing his delivery, one of them says to him "did you know that jesus did not celebrate his birthday on december 25th?
That's priceless! Certainly shows where the priorities are!
i know there's no such word as "witnessy" but this can be a fun thread.
I can't for the life of me think of anything that wasn't already mentioned, but I had to say that I'm in stitches reading all of these. Not quite sure if it's funny or just sad . . . I had no idea how bizarre it all sounded when I was 'IN'.
