Remember all the articles in times past how witnesses were praised as good and honest and faithful workers? How they work at all things as if to Jehovah?... saying even "worldly" people recognized it and would hire only witnesses?... Are they still printing that stuff? I haven't seen it in years. All I remember over the last few years is articles on how witnesses SHOULD be. (Cause they know they're not)
After my experience with working with one, I would NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER do it again. That's another whole story. Soon.
As for owning your own business....In Florida that's about the only way one could make a living.

Field service report?
by heart2heart inum, i was just wondering where i drop off my field service report... i got about 2 hours today and placed one book (coc)!!
that's better than i did most months as an active jw!
lol i did talk to my non-jw dad - i wonder if the elders would allow that as "service", after all, i was talking about witness' beliefs!

Happy Birthday! 2 Oh, my gosh, I can't believe I said that. (my first year out) I won't die will I?
As for your field report? Drop it (up) in Jehovah's box where it really counts as something.

"Just being seen on the street is a witness."
by seattleniceguy inremember how the witnesses used to always say that even if they didn't meet anyone home, just being seen by traffic on the street was a witness?
as if the people driving by are saying to themselves, "wow, look at those servants of the true god, bringing the waters of life to my door.
if only i weren't so bull-headed, i might listen to them and attain a good relationship with my creator.

It sure is different being on the other side of the door now. We have a Mormon church right down the street. Just like we could be identified by our dress up clothes and book bags, they wear their black pants and white shirts, and obey the rules and wear a bike helmet. You can spot them everytime. I now feel, "I know what you're going through." (sigh) At least they aren't expected to do it till death do them part.
Blondie: We also had "Dog Houses" in sunny Florida. (no one home but the dog)
I wonder if in New York City the angels get confused since most everyone on the streets are dressed up and have a briefcase of sorts? They could be cheering the wrong folks on. Just think, if these folks only knew they could hand in their time because the angels see them! Oh, I forgot, the angels have the power to peer into the briefcases and see whether it was business papers or Watchtower business papers. Shame on me for forgetting that.

Can you believe you followed this stuff and believed it?
by wizedup inmy husband and i amuse each other with recollections of the "spiritual" language, sometimes with tears of laughter.
we sometimes gasp at the thought we took all that stuff so seriously for nearly 40 and 33 years.
every meeting, we had to be there, listening to the demands for obedience, loyalty, and submission.

That seems to be what they always say, Crinkle. WE were wrong, not them!

Were they right about anything?

Were they right about anything? My hubby would say,"hell no!" ( If it's any consolation, he is "anointed" too.)
I figure, only if you want to believe it.
We made a conserted effort to scrap it all and start from ground O. We're reading the Bible for ourselves, coming to our own conclusions, leaving the unknown to God. Enjoying a free life. I don't believe I need ALL the answers any more to be happy. Life is beautiful in it's own right. Enjoy what you can while it's here. Try not to waste time being depressed not knowing. We'll all come to know fully someday....or not. But you won't be alone either way.
Best to you!

HELP!! Trying to find right religion brough up as JW
by emmamess22 ini was raised as an on again off again (when convenient for flighty mom) jw.
i have recently decided due to the birth of a daughter that it was time to get it together and decide what to do with myself spiritually as she was going to church with her baptisit dad and i felt awful.
so, i've been using the reasoning book and reading the bible and trying to decide what's right.. spent hours looking at christmas online....saw it was traced to pagan celebrations and decided not to do it.

If you believe the bible contains the answers for you, I suggest you start with Micah 6:8 " He has told you O earthling man, what is good. And what is Jehovah asking back from you but to exercise justice and to love kindness and to be modest walking with your God."
God has not changed. Walk slowly, smell the roses and feel the breezes. Be appreciative. He'll direct from there.

Is it Legal or not?
by wizedup ini noticed in phil: 1:7 all my translations say, "it is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since i have you in my heart; for whether i am in chains or defending and confirming the gospel, all of you share in god's grace with me.
the nwt inserted ".... defending and legally establishing of the good news.
they footnote it to acts 25:11 where paul says he's willing to die if he's deserving out of wrong doing....then " if, on the other hand, none of those things exist of which these men accuse me, no man can hand me over to them as a favor.

Now why do you think they needed to insert "legally" when it exists in no other translation that I can find? Could it be to scripturally back up the need for all their lawyers? Interesting insertion, isn't it?

They do prey on the vulnerable and admit it too.
Like when they say: "You never know when someone experiences a death in the family, goes through a divorce, etc. They may be searching for answers. The angels will direct you to these ones."
Well if you go out enough you are bound to run into someone hurting over something, no? Yet, the angels sent you there. What they really mean and can't say is," There are vulnerable people out there who will fall for this if the time is right and they're hurting bad enough. GO GET 'EM!"

(sheepishly covering my eyes)... yes, I was like that. Since age 12, I searched the Bible with tears and asked God to tell me what He wanted me to know and do. Age 16 left the Catholic church because that wasn't "true". At 21 "found the truth" because someone at the door told me they knew what the bible taught. I fell hook line and sinker. Believed thoroughly because it was all in "black and white", (well shades of grey too as it changed). Little did I discern that the "black and white" was jumping around to fit whatever they wanted it too.
But, I was over zealous, self righteous, pushy (out of sincerity), not by personality , but because I wanted everyone to know what I knew , whether they were searching for it or not. I loved GOD and truly believed I had the answers I was looking for since youth. I know better now.
