i am sure there has been a thread about this but i downloaded skype - (free) and i have a webcam and a microphone so i can call friends and family in europe who also have skype and i can talk and see them free of charge - really cool.

anyone of you guys got skype?

Funny, I just downloaded it last night, and so far I'm impressed with the sound quality. I'm trying to manage with just a cell phone so this should help offset those costs. They had a deal to call any land line in North America for one year for $15 (US). Now would like a good cordless headset....

We only have one life, why spend it fighting? Personally, I find it easier to display socalled christian virtues, like compassion, emphathy and forgiving after leaving the JW religion. Now I try to display it cause it is good, before it was stressed so much that I got fed up.... (I was kind then too, but now I am relaxed and tolerant and it makes a change). I feel so content now. Doing that formal step of writing the DA letter made me feel free. It was like getting a citizenship in the World. Lovely.

Amazing, I didn't realize that to be on these forums you had to drop all belief in the Bible, God's laws or God himself. Having gripes with the WTS is one thing but this is a bit much. My, how far we fall.

Omniscient god ???

can an omniscient god, who knows the future, find the omnipotence to change his future mind karen owens i am an atheist, but i have been thinking about this comment ever since i read it.

raised as a jw i am still interested in how the believing mind works.

hypothetically, if man could govern themselves peacefully on earth, even though death would still exist, would the bible loose its potency?

Our friend Yahweh doesn't let a little thing like the scientific method stand in his way. No sir, if it doesn't look like he'll get the results he wants, he'll change the parameters of the experiment. (i.e. tower of Babel)

Not only does he change the maze during the experiment to confuse the rats, he'll even influence their thoughts in orchestrating their eventual failure. (i.e.hardening the heart of pharaoh)

The JW the idea of universal sovereignty really makes god look like a psychopath who wouldn't be interested in the scientific method even if he understood it.

By the way, athiest over here

Certainly the scriptures point to 'everlasting life' as a hope. Beyond that I don't know the details. What matters the details?

FHN : A god who would do the things mentioned in the OT would have good reason to be jealous of the loving and benevolent god spoken of in 1 John 4: 8.

John indicates that letter was not written to women though,

1 John 2
13 I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father.
14 I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.

so unless a man has revealed that to you, it's non-admissable.

Who are we to check the hand of the Most High, we are so finite and dont understand hardly anything in the end, very small minds. I still believe that we don't understand everything but I understand enough not to question the Almighty and when all the dust settles, there will be an explanation. That is what my faith says, I still believe he is a God of love, waking up tomorrow to an earth still rotating and food and a hope proves that to me. I trust the Bible and my God through Christ.

I am sure I am not alone in remembering castigating the priests of the Catholic Church, and their equals in other institutions, for answering difficult biblical or doctrinal questions with the standard "God is a mystery" or "He works in mysterious ways". Even as witnesses, we recognized these statements for what they were, cop outs, betraying a lack of a cohesive and logical argument with these conversation stoppers.

And yet, all believers in the bible have to use this uncomfortable excuse at times, to deal with the obvious contradictions found within it's pages, especially when dealing with aspects God's personality as the above shows. The one lone believer on this thread so far, is testament to that fact.
