  Do you have to respond?

  i continually battle with my emotional feelings as the daughter of a devout jw and my beliefs as a reasonable educated individual.. problems arise when my mother makes some sort of contact with me via email and always has to put in some dig such as "since you have turned your back on jehovah's people" and then i get furious because if god does have people on earth i am sure the red cross volunteers would be on the list, not the jws i know.

  the statements she makes always irritate me and i sometimes choose to defend my beliefs, my morality, my truth vs her truth.

  i spend time writing not only factful but sometimes emotional charged testimony about what it means to be godly.. once i make my point it opens up a can of worms and i get bombarded with emails or magazines from her trying to make her point.

  TickledPink: I understand the expectations and dissapointments. But there is a difference between knowing something in your head and feeling something else in your heart. I continue to try though.

  You don't have to respond. But if you want to respond, I would suggest getting some ground rules laid, setting some boundaries.

  Maybe you could explain to your mother that you have turned your back on the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society and that you are not interested in anything they have to say on any subject. That could open the door for you to get her to explain her views from a different basis than what the WTBTS says is truth. It is an effective way to get JWs to start thinking on their own.

  100mph winds

  that'll teach me to eat beans on toast, yesterday!!!.

  the wind is really picking up and the town is clearing as everyone is getting sent home from work.. we're expecting 100mph gusts here, on the west coast of scotland.. i'm gonna go home and get cosy, with a roaring coal fire.

  it's just as well our houses are built for severe weather!.

  LittleToe, perhaps you should venture into a nearby Kingdumb Hall and wait the storm out. Those building have an anecdotal reputation for surviving all sorts of catastrophes.

  I saw the devastated looks on the faces of many JWs after a flood took out three out of three KHs in one town. I understand why they were so perplexed, it didn't meet the divine protection standard implied at every Convention.

  This tribulation will be momentary, if not light. Stay low...

  Yes, if each one saw the other. So, blind people can only fornicate with each other in public. I see your point, u/d - from now on when I fornicate I'm going to close my eyes so I can't be an eyewitness. (living is easy with eyes closed)

  Did so! You lied about me, I'm telling ... damn it! No one to tell on you to. I guess we'll just have to apply Jesus' counsel since the elders won't be there to sort it all out for us.

  Apologies to u/d, because I agree they teach those things correctly. However, here is the revised list by implication:

  • Bad things happen to good people (when they aren't in the ministry or at the meetings)
  • The Bible is trustworthy (but only the way the FDS interprets it)
  • God is Love (but humans can treat each other like living dung and it is just a mistake)
  • Jesus died for EVERYONE (as long as they become Jehovah's Witnesses and symbolize that by verbally signing their life over to an earthly organization)
  • No trinity, no immortal soul, no hellfire (prev. ment.)
  • I'm responsible for my actions before God (but I am accountable to men for my perceived actions and feelings)
  • I answer to God, not men (unless I am accused of gross misconduct and can't prove otherwise)
  • There is a better future (for any who become Jehovah's Witnesses and symbolize that by verbally signing their life over to an earthly organization)
  • wickedness will not forever prevail (you are wicked will die if you don't become Jehovah's Witnesses and symbolize that by ...)
  • I can be better than I am (as long as I do it the way the FDS tells me to this week)

  1. Since whole blood sharing occurs between twins in a monochorionic pregnancy in a natural setting, why isn't that recognized by the WT the same as blood fractions crossing the placental barrier?

  That is an abomination and those twins should be shunned from birth.

  I agree with you there, jh.

  I think that John 13:34, 35 is accurately stressed by them as a mark of Christ's true disciples - they simply fail to recognize that their misapplication of love like that of Christ rules them out completely as being his disciples.
