I love it.. that is hilarious.
I decided when my mom invites me to the Memorial, as she does every year, I will politely decline but invite her to my Easter brunch party and our July 4th BBQ and any other CELEBRATION I can come up with.
told me that she had sent me a package of candies and cookies.
i got one of the packages today.
it consist of two small boxes, one with a red bucket of candy with a red heart on the front with a caption that says "wishing you a happy valentine's day!

.and i just thought they were so on top of disaster relief around the world because they cared.
but when i heard this a lightbulb went off in my head:.
we just had our co visit, and our co is the guy that was the head of hurricane relief in punta gorda, florida.
My mother has been donating her time doing free roofing since the hurricanes hit here in Florida. I live in an area that was pretty hard hit... and the "brothers" are doing roofs here every single weekend (quick build style) until the end of March when she told me they would be finished.
Basically you sign up to a crew and show up on Sat morning and work until Sun afternoon... all the workers are from the local congregations and are donating their time because they feel like it's the right thing to do.. .meanwhile they are working for FREE.
My mom raved about this whole program and went on and on how she is collecting the debris and they have her assigned to driving back and forth to the dump and what a "PRIVELEDGE" it was to her to serve her fellow "brothers and sisters"
It really pissed me off because my mom lives at poverty level and could be at least making minimum wage for her work, but instead she is donating her time and the WTS will collect insurance checks. Yes, the WTS does pay for the materials out of the WWW fun, but I can tell you from experience that the average house shingles costs is around $2,000. So the WTS is going to make thousands of profit on each person.
It is NOT insurance fraud because it works like this. Your insurance adjuster comes over sees you have no roof/damaged roof, he tells you to get 3 ESTIMATES, which you do from bonafide roofing contracters and then based on your square footage, house, etc.. the insurance company just cuts you a check. We know people next door that collected and then fixed their roof themselves. They pocketed the check. Bottom line, once you have the estimates, you can fix the roof any way you want to and then cash your insurance check. You HAVE to fix the roof though, you can't just cash the check if you don't fix the roof, that is the only contingency I do believe, otherwise they will drop your insurance and sue you for the $$$.
to those who have conscientiously walked away:.
what changes will at least make you consider coming back in?.
of course some will say nothing they do will lure them back?
A lobotomy.
Nothing less would do.
Perfect answer.
I would never return, no matter what.
...is it ok?
did you try to stop them?
(please consider coming from a very conservative background/culture)..relatives/friends talking about it, possible trauma which may be caused by society's discrimination...
My best friend has a gay daughter, she said she knew when her little girl was about 6 years old because she never was interested in anything girlie at all... and although the subject was never discussed when her daughter was about 16 she made it perfectly clear she was interested in girls only. My friend said she never did anything different that she didn't do with her other daughters, teach them about safe sex, morality, pregnancy, etc... never told her that her choices were wrong or right, just taught all her children to be responsible when it comes to sex. All her children were loved and accepted exactly the way they came out. She also has a deaf daughter, she didn't teach her that something was "wrong" with her just because she couldn't hear... it's the same principle. Just because you are different, doesn't make it "wrong" .
I think being raised JW as I was, that some JW parents really harp on sex being wrong and you grow up with different sexual hang ups, weird ideas that masturbation is wrong, or your thoughts are wrong and you end up with unecessary guilt. I can't imagine wanting to do that on purpose to any child, whether the child is gay or straight. Your job as a parent is to raise them up to be kind to humankind... according to the golden rule. It's no one's job to instill guilt, condemnation, judgement, etc on a person.
has anyone else had to hide their xmas tree because their jw relatives can't pick up a phone?
i literally had to have my hubby distract them so i could shove the damn thing in a closet!!
everyone at some point in their lives has a movie moment, unfortunately for me, mine had to be a 3 stooges movie!!!!!
Well this coming Xmas will be our first year with a big tree, since we just got a house and all.
I am looking for to it, we're going to decorate like mad! and I don't give a flying flip who knows!

last year it was seven and now twentytwo countries with zero or negative growth.. remember when japan was growing by double digits each year?.
Did you count Alaska and Hawaii? You know they list them as "countries" also.. even though we know they are NOT. I don't have the figures for them though.
Besides the internet, I don't think you can scare people as easily today as you could 100 years ago. It's the information age!

one of my former bs conductors and her husband decided when they got married, they wouldn't have any kids 'in this system'.
i know the world could be better, but i see no reason not to have children if that's what your wishes really are....and you're able to for that matter.
she just turned 34 and really wants to have a child.
I knew several couples who did that... although there were several babies being born too. It did seem though that the people having kids were considered "spritually weak" because it was like they didn't believe or have faith that Jehovah would provide them with children in the "new system"
People used to talk about Job and how God gave him children all over again and how in the "new system" everyone would be sooo happy and be able to have kids, etc.
I never bought into it, never had kids, but then again I just got married and just turned 30, so I have plenty of time.
everybody's situation is different, of course, and everybody has their own choices to make.. but do you recall that when we were dubs, we were constantly urged to go out in service, because people needed to hear what we thought was the truth?
they would use that scripture by paul, "i consider myself a debtor to all men" etc.
to enforce the moral compulsion to go door to door.. now that we know the truth about the truth; how obliged are we to tell our family?
Obligation? No, although I would like her to know and understand the real truth... but she would much rather live in her alternate JW universe.
I think a lot of JWs actually want it to be true, they will risk their whole lives filled with hope, rather than find out for sure.

i cannot possibly even imagine the pain and suffering the children went through.. .
this is horrible!.
I don't understand it either. She gave up on them, but didn't give up on herself, that sickens me. I am sure if she let them out, someone would have taken them in.
