my wife is getting baptized on the 19th.. i wrote her a letter today.

basically i asked her why she isn't coming to me to find out my concerns.

i am the person who has the most invested in her.

Is there any possibility you could ask her to wait 6 months? Is there any way you could beg and plead and tell her to please wait 6 months, that you both need to talk about this, that baptism is like buying a house, or getting a 30 year mortgage that you need to be OKAY with the decision together as a family.

Buy yourself some time, offer her a vacation to Mexico, a cruise, something where the two of you can talk without constant interruptions and bring some REAL literature with you. Make her read Crisis of Conscience, ask her to read the book and if she still feels like she wants to get baptised that at least you will feel like she's informed.

Please buy yourself time.

I don't think that many people will equate Michael Jackson to JWs... Example: his plastic surgery and you don't see people saying "OMG look at him, never get plastic surgery" no, what they say is don't do what he did. Plastic surgery is on the rise even though he's a freak.

I think mainstream people won't blame the WTS for him, just like they aren't going to blame plastic surgery as a whole.

i was reading the 1975 thread, and considered posting on it, but since i wasn't born until the carter administration, i don't think i really can comment on it.

i can sympathize, however.. you see, i was raised in the truth.

I guess in my mind I think it's laughable that there are still JWs out there that believe the "end" is still just around the corner. I mean it's 2005 at what point are they going to realize that it was all a hoax? It's like waiting for Santa on Christmas morning when you are a kid, believing with all your might that he's going to come and then he doesn't show up, no presents, the cookies are still uneaten, in fact you don't even have a chimney in your house!

But every single morning till like August you wake up waiting for Santa to come down that chimney. It's that ridiculous. Give it up already.

But yes, finally accepting the end isn't coming is a HUGE step.

i'm 21 years old and currently in a relationship with a baptised jw.

i have been studying with the jws for 2 years before we met.

well, i have to admit, i did not enjoy studying with them until about 10 months ago when i became interested of digging the "truth" although it means my sources was only the jw.

You actually might have true love, but if you can't be HONEST with him and talk about your thoughts or feelings because he might break up with you, then you can never truly be loved for who you are.

You can try to present him with some doubts, facts, questions and see what happens, you might even open him up and let him see the REAL truth about "the truth" but unless you are honest with him, your relationship will never be whole.

I sympathize with you, I can't imagine loving someone and being afraid to talk about anything openly.

i thought of a question i'd like to ask my sister-in-law (who's a fanatical dub).

i'd like to say to her: "...if it could be proven to you beyond any doubt that this was not the "one true religion", would you still go to the kingdom hall?...

i figure it's a catch-22 that really ought to make them stop and think.

It wouldn't work because that is like posing the question "If I could prove to you that GRAVITY wasn't really true, would you still believe in it?"

At that point, I'd say "sure if you can prove gravity doesn't exist, sure I would stop believing in it" insert eye rolling and thinking you are crazy.... because it's not a belief to them, it's HARD FACT.

WT Rule: Disfellowshipped Should Shun One Another!

anybody remember this?

two people who are disfellowshipped can't talk to one another and can't even carpool to the meeting.

i seem to remember this vaguely mentioned in a previous thread.

I remember that rule... we had a couple DF'd people in our hall that attended and sat in the back seperately and never talked because the elders kept their eyes on them. I remember one single mother with small kids in particular.

The thing is, when I think of a normal church, people seem so relaxed and the kids are allowed to play in Sunday school and the women want you to join their clubs and fundraisers and such. Normal churches are such SOCIAL places... to think of the KH as basically an ANTI-SOCIAL church.

SHUNNING AT A TIME OF BEREAVEMENT..i told them what i think

i posted yesterday or day before regarding my anger at my wife being shunned the day after her father died.. in fact it was a very deliberate shun by 3 women who went out of their way to brush right past my wife.. i saw 2 of them today and went up to them in the school playyard and said very loudly for all the parents to hear:.

"i would like to thank you both for your condolensces and for walking right past my wife when her father had just died.. true christianity??

?.....isn't it lovely!!!!!!.

I went through the same thing when I traveled from FL to BC Canada... LONG trip to go to my grandfather's funeral where I was not even spoken to and told to leave my grandmother's house on the eve of the funeral.

Yeah, it was filled with Christian love alright.

I think it's unfortunate that the WTS promotes going and knocking on every person's door, yet when someone came to their door they basically were "not interested" that is VERY interesting to me.

Leading double life

i ran into a young jw i hadn't seen in probably 12 years, anyways, she was the presiding overseer's daughter, perfect little jw... she's now 25 yoa, she is still an active witness and in fact a sympathizer to their crap but dressed in a low cut top, belly showing, carrying a beer, trolling for guys out a hot spot on a friday night with a "worldly" friend.. she talked to me for 5 mins and told me she had been df'd for a year but how horrible it was, she is reinstated and doing good..... but everything about her looks said she wasn't a good little jw.. i think more and more hypocrites are being raised in the organization.

i wouldn't be able to stand leading a double life, i would much rather be honest and not hiding who and what i am... but there are more young jws, including ones i would never suspect, that are jws by day, and regular people at night.

i think they are falling into the "sunday morning christians" mentality and carrying tons of guilt around with them.. i just wish they would wake up.

I just think it's ridiculous to DF someone over something so personal as their relationship with their significant other. It would be equal to me asking you if you wear purple underwear on Wednesdays and then getting mad at you if you did or didn't. It's none of my business.

How many people go around spewing every personal detail of their life to the average stranger? Elders are nothing but strangers to most of the people they DF, they are in positions of authority when they take off their painter/janitor hat and put on their elder hat, but most of the time they aren't friends with the people, they aren't there to counsel them, they are there to pass judgement like some pseudo court.
