Unless you believe in "spirit(s)" you cannot be "spiritual"

upon a fine conversation with a good forum member last night i started to think about the meaning of the word spiritual.

many people, including some agnostics and atheists, use this word with some regularity.

"i'm not religious, but i am spiritual" is something even i have said.

I believe you are basically correct, although it's hard to define the word "spirit" because you might equate it with God, an angel or something like that and I might define the "Spirit" as being the energy of the Universe.

Think of your body and your "spirit" as being two seperate things... the body being the physical part and the "spirit" being the energy that runs the body. I know believing they are seperate is anti-JW, but if the body dies, and the "spirit" lives on... then it's sort of the energy that does. (I am bad at explanations)

I believe that God is less human that people try to make "Him" be, they always equate God on human terms... but if we thought of God as being the Spirit or ENERGY of the Universe, it makes more sense to think that whie in nature you are having a SPIRITual experience... because nature is fed by the power of the sun, which in turn might be fed by the energy of the Universe, or what I believe might be God or the BIG SPIRIT in the sky.

Or did i just confuse myself ?

Marriage material in JW

i grew up jw and was your average blonde, blue eyed florida girl.

i of course being a normal girl had raging hormones and was always looking around at boys.

i was a pioneer though and homeschooled, so i only met jws and was always of the mindset that i had to marry a jw.

But looking around in our area there were a few nice single brothers, but not that many that fit all the criteria.... there were however several OLDER brothers that were single and were always kinda suggested as being "suitable marriage material." The younger guys either found the only "hot" girl and got married right away, or was maybe a bit too "wordly."

My best friend married a divorced single Ministerial servant who was 15 years older than her. She was 19 and he was 34, then my other good friend waited until she was 25 and her husband was 40 years old. I think she waited until she realized there were anyone else left... I always amazed me that all us young girls were given the option to marry older guys who had either had a past, been divorced, became a JW after they hit 30, or whatever. They weren't pure virgins.... all us girls were so innocent and most of us were pioneers and we weren't rewarded with good guys.... nope, but all the older guys could get the younger girls. Made no sense to me.

I do remember one guy who was 4 years older than me.... very heavy-set called me up and asked me basically on a "date" but in our conversation he interviewed me and asked me 1. Did I know how to make biscuits, 2. Did I know how to make fried chicken, 3. Did I know how to sew??? It was soooo stupid.... I can cook and sew but that has nothing to do with being in love with someone.

It was soooo comical to me now. I ended up dating and marrying the best man and we're a year apart, and perfectly compatible. I can't imagine today, being 30 yoa, and being married to some 40 or 50 year old elder. YUCK!

i have been wondering who is the president of the watchtower society?

my mother told me that milton henschel died in 1993 and i have not heard of anybody ever replacing him?

my mom also told me that the society has 7 new corporations within the watchtower society.

i was just thinking the other day, about what jesus said concerning the end of the system of things.

he said that, "no one knows the day or the hour...but only the father.".

there are two units of measurement - day and hour.

Well that is all contigent on the presumption that the Bible was written and translated correctly and was in fact the word of God and not just the writings of man.

But either way, we still don't know. I do know however, that I am alive today and to make the most of it.

i think that pretty much says it all.we can all whine and groan about how the society has wronged us and how they are so self preserving and wrong , evil, false, controling decieving, self righteous,and whatever.those who speak of giving up or god is dead or now i smoke pot and god loves me or now i commit fornication and its okay or those that get drunk and say thats okay.man some of you sound like the apostate definition according to the society.the evil slave.in order not to allign yourself with satan your job i think is simple.stop doing wrong.

quit trying to have sex outside of marriage,smoking pot,lieing cheating and stealing.i dont care who you are you dont want to die.

ive tried it twice and am glad im still here.im no wuss either former power lifter very veril and have 4 children.some of you kill me with your live for today mentality.i have a hard time believing that you chose to leave rather than being disfellowshipped and just feel bitter.

FYI - I have been out of the JW religion for 10 years.... and I LEFT... the elders didn't find me in another town for 5 years and my mother is the one that pressured them to DF me because I wouldn't return to her religion.

FYI - we aren't all immoral druggies. In fact I find that I might be MORE MORAL on my own with my own conscience than with the elders policing my every move. When I was a JW I was the only girl almost in the congregation that wasn't sneaking out and having sex or doing drugs.... most of my JW friends got caught at some point doing something wrong. Personally I have never tried a drug in my life, never needed to, never wanted to, never smoked a cigarette even.... and married, so I hope I'm not committing any fornication.

So what becomes of me? I don't lie, cheat, or steal, don't use drugs, and don't commit immorality. What becomes of me? I refuse to ever go back to the JW religion? Am I still damned in your righteous opinion? I don't have children and if I did I would NEVER teach them their religious crap. I do have a poodle though and she knows all the 10 commandments!

reading a topic in here, i came across a conversation regarding jehovah approved(tm) sports.

i noticed that two of the posters were insensed at the amount of ex-jws in this forum.. they started ignoring everyone else that had put their opinion in on the subject....and decided that everyone in this forum was a jw "hater".

i myself take offence to that, for i don't hate the jw's.

absolutely not.

I have only hated 1 person in my lifetime and that happened to be a lying cheating boyfriend... and he wasn't a JW, he was just a pr*ck.

But I dislike the teachings, the ideology, the control issues, etc ... the list goes on... and maybe I dislike the men in control and power at the top... but I don't hate people. Never have, never will.

i have seen quite a few posts from many ex-jw women about how unhappy they were about male domination in congregation.

was it really that bad?

when i was still a jw, no one ever told me anything to that effect.

I left before all of it hit me. But I did always object to the women being less than a man, the stupidest rule I thought was that 1 woman couldn't be onstage in the KH by herself... it always had to be 2 women doing some 5 minute bit, or service demonstration.

No thanks.

How do you have sex with a demon anyways? I mean I'm no expert but it seems a bit IMPOSSIBLE to me. I mean I watched the movie "Ghost" and if anyone was going to get it on, it would have been Demi Moore and her dead husband and all he did was move a penny in the room. So, I don't believe it!
