Actually, I have a lot of respect for what the Pope has done and said. Sure, more needs to be done, i.e., changing Canon law so that pedophile priests cannot operate in lands that do not have stringent laws as the US and European nations.
I hope the RCC continues to progress and move forward and serve as an example for correcting errors. I'm sorry for the victims. No apology will erase what they went through.
But the good that is being done WILL NO DOUBT protect children. That has to be acknowledged. How many potential future acts of pedophilia are being averted by the proaction of the RCC?
By contrast, how many more children are going to suffer by the INACTION of the Watchtower Society?

Inkling, it's hard to base a whole theory on one man's experience. I'm not discrediting his viewpoint, but I'm sure others have had different experiences.
I went to Catholic schools my entire life. Sex was not a taboo subject in our household and the nuns did try to "groom" all four of us girls into convents (none of us went). The pastor tried to groom my two brothers and my cousin to go into the seminary. We all utilized our free wills and none of us chose the religious path. In fact, out of the entire Parochial school that we went through all those years, I know of no one who chose that path and we were all exposed to the same "grooming."
And out of all the priests and nuns and bishops that went in and out of our house all those years and all the opportunities, none of us kids were molested. I had a different experience altogether.
So, it's a matter of choice and pre-disposition. Perhaps your acquaintance was gay and a lot of gays are repressed anyway (closeted gays, anyway)????
Just my thoughts.

So now the question I have is what is the percentage of pedophilia in the US period? I mean is 7% a large percentage compared to the general population?
Obviously, pedophiles are going to go where they can to have access to children. So religions are always going to attract pedophiles. I know for a fact that just to work even as a volunteer in any capacity now in a Catholic Parish you have to go through fingerprinting. The same as working in the public school system, where pedophiles had harbored in the past. So steps are being taken.
I absolutely agree pedophile priests and those who protected them should be prosecuted by the law, as well as any clergy in any religion.
But I like to keep things in perspective. And I think the only thing SNAP will be happy with is closing down the RCC, which isn't going to happen. Any adult victim who remains Catholic is discredited by them. They are fanatics. They lose credibility by their fanaticism. IMO.

Now I can't find where they said the number was 5000. Not sure if I read it wrong. Regardless. I still want to know. If anyone has that info.
I just can't say I blame the Pope for not wanting to meet with SNAP. I give credit where credit is due and the Church is acknowledging and doing something. SNAP is unwilling to acknowledge anything.

Does anyone know what the ratio is of Catholic priest versus pedophile Catholic priest?
The SNAP website says there are 5000 pedophiles in the US. How many priests are there? 5000 is a LOT! Is that an exaggeration?

this survey was huge in scope of test group when compared with other similar surveys, including more than 35,000 u.s. adults.

I think the new trend is to HAVE BABIES!!!
My sister who has been waiting "until the New System" and pioneering for years has recently announced that they are thinking about having babies and she hopes to have twins.
This is so "untheocratic" of her. Another long-time pioneer is on her second baby already in the past couple of years.
Seems like the trend will spread.

i think what set it off was a "to-do" list that he made first thing in the morning that listed all the chores i needed to do under his name and the chore under my name was to go to the kh with him to hear the co give a talk about "why the bible is accurate".
