My funny story happened at a book study when a young but "up-and-coming" brother was given the "privilege" to approach the Most High Jehovah God in prayer. He began the prayer by saying, "Our Most Heavenly Father Satan, uh, Jehovah..."
This is NO JOKE! It really happened. My husband, my self and all our kids could not stop laughing.
in military base of karadjordjevo there were 14 conscientious objectors before the escalation of war in march.
twelve of them were nazarenes or jehovah's witnesses and two which did not declare religiously.
they were working on "non-military" tasks but on military premises and for the benefit of the army.
First the person is offended, but they will never forget what it was that offended them. It might just be the thing that gets them out. Maybe it's a good thing for them to see that people are hurt and angry about how they've been treated by the WTS.

according to one poster, there seems to be something reallllly steaming at bethel since 1997 (assuming the guy knows what he's alluding).
Isn't it weird how we can identify frauds so easily now but we were once duped too? I mean people actually feel this lady is sooo spiritual because of giving her children's inheritance $$$ to the Society. Now, if the adult children were JW's, I wonder if this would have happened at all. Hmmmm

Yes, Ros, it is standard practice. The JW who does this gets brownie points too (getting their reward in full) by all the JW's admiration and praise.
Case in point: My MIL talks about a certain elderly sister in her congregation who received, not only her husband's pension, but his high $$ life insurance as well when he passed. Well, she didn't need all that money since she had no bills and no mortgage, so she gave it to the society and they give her a monthly amount to live on. When she passes on, the Society keeps the rest. Did she do this privately? No, she made this arrangement and made sure to let all the other witnesses know and so now everyone in the area knows and gives her praise for being such a loyal servant of the Most High God! The thing that makes me sick is that she has three non-believing children who were jipped out of their inheritance! I'm quite certain *they* will NEVER become witnesses now! But that's *really* not important, is it?
This sister goes out door to door 70 hours a month and hasn't (to my knowledge) succeeded in converting a single person in over 10 years! But her three children were stumbled by this WTS policy. If this were really the truth, these people would be blood-guilty. But we all know it's just a corporation whose only interest is self-perpetuation!

She makes it sound as if the WTS is in agreement with Confucius' in NOT advocating "conformity" and "blind obedience." And even that they champion "individuality" and "independent action." I hope the governments see through this crap!
How typical. On the one hand they say, "Hey, let's keep Confucius' heritage and allow people freedom of conscience." All the while planning to take away those same people's freedom of conscience once they become JW's. Barf!

just found out from my very informed mil that the wts has struck a deal with the long beach arena.
in exchange for free rent for the next 13 years, the society is remodelling the arena.

Just found out from my very informed MIL that the WTS has struck a deal with the Long Beach Arena. In exchange for FREE rent for the next 13 years, the Society is remodelling the arena. They are taking names of brothers with certain types of skills such as painters, dry-wallers, plumbers, electricians, etc. etc. and they created a database. These brothers go to the arena (according to MIL some are spending 12 hour days!) and donate their skills to fix up the arena.
I think the Society is so good at taking advantage of the friends. MIL said the Society is "footing the bill" for it but the friends are donating their skills. Everyone knows the value is in the man hours! Besides, now they're going to still collect donations at the assemblies for the next 13 years from those same people who broke their backs! Wonder if they can count their time.
I think they must not be receiving enough donations to cover the cost. What do you all think?

Hi Farkel. I knew a man who was a L.A. County Sherriff for 7 years and also a JW. He couldn't hold any responsibilities though or "reach out" due to his carrying a weapon. He always made it perfectly clear to all though that he would "never use his weapon." Bet he didn't tell that to his employers though. Anyways, he left the Department to start a janitorial business (not kidding). Now he's an elder.
BTW, pedophiles can be MS and elders but Sherriff's can't. Ugghh!

last night the co and another elder showed up at our house just 5 minutes after my husband got home from work (i think they were sitting on the side of the road just waiting for him to come home)*stalkers*, anyway to make along story short, the pressure was on.
i felt like they were there to get us to da ourselves.
Sarah, I'm sorry for what happened to you. Everyone here wants to support you and your husband. I agree with the preceeding posts about writing a letter through/with your attorney. The letter could say something to the effect of:
My husband and I feel that we were coerced into disassociation by the CO (mention name) and elder (mention name). This letter is to inform you that we in no way disassociate ourselves from the organization and if you make any announcement concerning us we will consider it slanderous and will take legal action against you personally.
I know the law says that if you join a religion you are bound to their rules but the key is that THEY are also bound to those same published rules. In any case, this will stall the process. They will probably try to DF you but you will have time to show your mom, sis and bro and your friends how they are coercing you and your husband who only want to lead a quiet, peaceful life.
The CO sounds like a Brother William Ward my husband and I knew. I know if that asshole showed up at my house I would simply slam the door in his face and threaten to call the police if he didn't get off of my property.
