I can't believe I missed this thread. Maximus, Marvin and Hawk, please do keep us posted. As soon as you have information that COULD/SHOULD be given, we are anxious and waiting. Good luck in whatever it is you are up to. The bomb ticking effect really works. You have me by the seat of my pants!

Disassociation versus disfellowshipping
by Marvin Shilmer indisassociation versus disfellowshipping is an interesting discussion for several reasons.
morally, one thing matters: both are procedures put in place by the wts to impose shunning.
that is the bottom line.

DO-NOT-CALL Campaign: US Legal Basis
by MadApostate infor those who are interested in "actually doing something" in the fight against the wts, other than posting to dbs, here is a recent us court opinion which does a good job of explaining that us homeowners have the legal right to forbid solicitors (including jws) from entering their private property, including explaining all the constitutional and legal issues.
although this case deals with an newspaper/advertising distributor, jws and "freedom of religion" are also addressed by this lengthy opinion.
it is well worth the read for anyone interested in fighting the wts using this avenue.. ... http://www.cmcnyls.edu/public/uscases/tillman.htm.

Proplog, usually I just ignore your posts. But this one is just toooooo funny!
"It would be wonderful if everyone did that. Just think. All that wasted man power - knocking on doors. JW's could work at their regular jobs over-time and contribute that money to the world wide work in other countries where people are still receptive."
Yeah, like anyone is going to believe this! You know and I know that all they care about while they're knocking doors is TIME COUNTING! If their time was really so precious they wouldn't walk at a snail's pace. Hahahahahahah. This is just tooooo funny! And working overtime? Pullleeeeeaase! You know most pioneers couldn't make it in the real world and that's why they pioneer. Because it gives them a sense of being somebody when they're really nobodies.
"That would speed up the work...might even buy TV time and produce slick programs with a free offer for home bible study."
WTS already has enough money to do this if they wanted to but they prefer to waste people's time by making them knock doors.
Keep posting. So many non-witnesses come to this board and get to see real life witnesses and how they think. It's so funny because already four people who were studying have stopped their studying after reading - not apostates posts - but You Know's. And you're almost as bad as him. Hahahahahahah!

HELP
by silentlambs ini am writing to ask for your help.
as many of you may know of the recent trial of erica rodriguez where manuel beliz was convicted of child molestation.
a new development has happened that in my opinion is absolutely outrageous.. the prosecuting attorney gary brueher has told erica today she is not welcome at the sentencing hearing.

Bill, I will make those calls today. I'm sorry I cannot be there for the trial as much as I would like. I wouldn't be able to get the day off or I would definitely be there.

What if biological weapons were on board?
by bluesapphire inthese people are crazy enough to do that ... put biological weapons on board the airplanes that would be released upon impact.. another thing i've thought about is this: don't airlines come from countries that are hostile to us?
i mean, what if a middle eastern airline which is destined for us has a nuclear warhead planted on it and the pilot is one of these terrorists?
couldn't they just plow into the white house or any target they choose?.

Watchtower charities and nonprofit organizations
by Kent ini followed the link on the "support freedom" banner, and checked out "guidestar".
http://www.guidestar.org.
a search for "watchtower", naturally came up with their "charitable" work, and it's really impressive!.

Thanks Kent for another very interesting post. I was surprized by this comment: "It makes its audited financial statements available to the public upon request." Has anyone ever requested such data? Maybe we should.

triple whammy
by Mulan inin the aftermath of tuesday's disaster, i can reflect on the past three weeks as the "summer from hell!".
my stepfather died on august 24, then my beloved cousin, sharon, took a dramatic turn for the worse, and died on september 6. we had barely gotten over the trauma of her memorial service on sunday, when this awful situation happened in our country.
sharon's sons had flown here from wisconsin and new york to be here the last few days of their mother's life, and now are stranded far from home, due to the airlines being out of commission, so to speak.. we were talking today about how when things finally get back to normal, in our lives, how sharon's death will hit us so hard!!

Marilyn: my sympathy and prayers go out to you. I don't know if you remember this but about two-three years ago you helped me over the phone when I was just a doubting witness. You were THE first ex-witness I had talked to - ever and you put me in touch with someone closer to my home. You sent me information on the WTS which got me thinking and you helped me to get my kids out okay. I will never forget your kindness. I want to extend love and concern for you now in your grief. Consider me a friend - one of the many friends you have on this board who love and care for you.
e-mail me if you ever want. [email protected]

Why Do I Remain one of Jehovah's Witnesses?
by Nicodemus innote: i originally started this as a reply to a query on the thread a different jw viewpoint.
alanf had asked me why i stay a jw in view of what i posted there.
as i developed the reply, it started to become clear to me that it was such a deviation from my original post that it deserved a separate thread.

Nicodemus, while I respect your right to choose your religion, I do wonder: Do you *really* believe JW's are the only ones who would die for thier beliefs? Think about it. Those terrorists who have caused so much pain and suffering in the US did it FOR THEIR BELIEFS. Does that make it right? Or what about all the other Christian missionaries from all the other denominations who are making far greater sacrifices than any JW missionary? Most JW missionaries concentrate in countries where the people are already Christian. So they just have to get people to believe in the WTS interpretations of the Bible which they already believe to be true. In essence, they are first letting the Baptists, Catholics, Evangelicals do the grunt work and then they go and "steal" converts from those who already are Christians. (I said *most* not all)
Do you really believe it is okay to sit back and let people be killed and say, "I will not go to war!" We would all be Nazis if all the men who sacrificed their lives had said that. And what about all the wars in the Old Testament? I believe it shows a lack of gratitude for the sacrifice made by so many brave men and women by criticizing their actions while enjoying the fruits of their actions to the full. Or would you be happier if you were *not* in a country which actually not only allowed you to believe as you wish, but DEFENDS with the blood of its own your right to believe what you believe?
It's easier and in my opinion cowardly to sit back and say, "I will not go to war." The hard thing is to defend the innocent and defend what you believe in. Do you believe in freedom? Then why would you not be willing to fight for that freedom? Those men who are put in prison for refusing to fight in wars have it great when compared to those who are on the front lines defending their beliefs and shedding their own blood for their beliefs. I don't admire the JW stand. I view them as cowards. And I view the GB as cowards too and hypocrites. I'm sure..they have the nerve to demand religious freedoms all over the world. (i.e., France) then with the other side of their mouth they criticize the very ones who lost their lives for those very same freedoms.
These have, of course, been my opinions. My intention is not to offend you and I hope I haven't.

NATO INVOKES ARTICLE V - Serious
by Amazing inwhen nato invokes article v, it is more than just one member asking for support from the other member states, but article v invocation means all member states view the attack as an attack on them all.
in other words, nato aliance is at war with those responsible, and will support the us lead, which will now hold not only the terrorists responsible, but hold those nations that host them as equally responsible.. "brussels, belgium (cnn) -- nato has unanimously declared the hijack attacks on the u.s. to be an assault against all member states.".
"it is the first time in 52 years that the alliance has invoked article v -- the nato self-defence charter that says if one member state is under attack all other member nations would defend it.".

Amazing, I agree with every comment you make! When I first learned the news of what happened yesterday I was walking into my school (I'm a school secretary). A teacher told me what was going on. I just started crying. But I had to hurry up and compose myself. I thought, "As I was waking up this morning, those people were flying into a building." I was sick to my stomach all day but couldn't let myself mourn. Then we were told schools would not be closing. So we had to go all day and act like "business-as-usual." Last night I tossed and turned. Today it was the same old thing. Until I read your anger and outrage did I put my feelings into words. I am sickened and cry as I type. We need to retaliate and SOONER rather than LATER. If Afghanistan does not turn Bin Laden over, they need to be bombed. They are in effect saying, "Ha ha" to us by harboring him. We MUST fight back. Or we will never heal.
