  Are Parents Who Shun Their Children At Risk?

  who looks after the welfare of ageing witness parents who have disfellowshipped children?

  are these df'd children (actually, some of these df'd children are in their 60's) meant to ignore being ignored and then care physically for their non speaking parents?

  also, can df'ing your own children lead to witness parents suffering illness or even death as a result?.

  Firstly, I am very sorry to hear of the bad news in your family E Man . You have my sympathies and I hope that things improve.

  In our day, elderly parents were still viewed as the responsibilty of cong members even if the parents were d/fd . If an old sister had needed the help of a d/fd son or daughter then it would have been viewed as "Necessary family busines" and accepted

  Apparently the August 2002 K M changed that and brought in a harder line. Many of the dubs that know would { I believe } still honour family responsibilities but i can see from comments on this board that some have taken it as a big change and now cut them off.. A sad case of rulebook thinking .

  since i'm new here you may already know about this, i didnt have time to go through the 5 billion archived posts on this board to see if they had already been discussed.. .

  1) bill bowen when he was in england related how jws would drive past his house and keep on honking their car horns (to intimidate)...so he put up a poster outside his house saying "honk for silentlambs"..hahahahahahaahahah , that was a pretty darn cool response huh.

  I am not qualified to coment on child rearing or family matters , but just an experience.

  My Mother in Law rejected the "Truth" as a young girl and went on to have three daughters . During school holidays they visited grandma and were taken to meetings and were witnessed to.

  Today all of them are diehard dubs ,only because of the exposure through Gandmother, My Mother in law never has taken it up.

  Family ties are strong, and a Grandparent is a poweful role model.

  I have also heard that men who give Public Talks must wear White Shirts.

  The JW's also forbid playing Chess.

  The JW's at one time forbade going to Zoos.

  Sorry, but that is just not true.

  The white shirts thing was never a rule and has gone the way of changing fashions

  Chess was once discouraged in an Awake article but never forbidden.

  We arranged congregation trips to zoos in South East England , and page 104 of "Making your Family Life Happy " 1978 (God what an awful book study that was!) had a full page illustration of a family at a zoo as a good example of wholesome activities.

  Wt news in the Philadelphia area

  there have been many posters here who said they heard jw's have been challenged quite a bit during field service due to the increased exposure of the watchtower pedophile news that has been circulating around the news media.

  here in the philadelphia area, we have a two major newspapers and neither one of them has ever printed anything on this subject.

  with the exception of dateline and connie chung, there would be no information for the public here to learn of this.

  Scooby raises a point and an attitude that I used to have, prior to the Panororama programme. The reason is that loyal dubs just cannot comprehend that such vile things are going on in their midst

  I watched Panorama in a state of shock and realised - "Silentlambs are right" it really is a big problem and it is not just a case of somebody groping about .. This is serious abuse by a significant number of parents and guardians of children

  Scully puts it right, but one has to full grasp the problem and sadly too many dubs put it all down to apostate slander

  i just took a look at h2o, which of course was the pioneering internet jw discussion board.

  at one time, it was the place.

  then this site came along, and nowadays people on h2o are debating whether there is any point in the continued existence of that site:.

  Don't let anyone say that this site is failing.

  It is the single best reason for subscribing to the net. I am pleased that so many Newbies join , and one only has to read Personal Experiences to see what a valuable tool this is and how badly it is needed. I really wish that ALL the decent "Brothers" of my acquantance would log on and read for themselves.

  when ever i visit with relatives that are still witnesses, i tend to hear one comment more then others.

  that being, "we would really love to see your face in paradise with us.

  " it might not always be in those exact words, but it is along the same thought.

  I could not say better myself , Dragon . We have all wasted time by picturing ourselves in a lovely New World - but it is a lie, a myth . I like your parallel to the ancient Greeks , since WT are so aggresive to other religions that have taken beliefs from such sources.

  It is really worse than a waste of time. It coases people to allow precious years to slip past with things not put right "Just wait on Jehovah!"

  People put up with a bad marriage , a low income , social wrongs - in the confident belief that it will be all right in the end, but it won't . They will get old and die just like every one else. Perhaps they lack the courage to admit they have been wrong and wasted they're life.

  If you think about it, it is a materialistic goal . Everthing that money can buy ,and more, given to you on plate ... just so long as you love God enough and keep him happy. If not of course then only a "Second death" is good enough for you , you ungrateful so and so....... You join the mass of "Wicked" that have to be culled so that the rest of them can live in Paradise.

  I could carry on with this soapbox rant but I have said enough.

  of oct. 15, 2002 states: "although we do not feel superior to those who profess other faiths,we avoid socializing with them or getting drawn into their worship.

  ".......jw's avoid socializing with anyone not a witness because all others are not as good as jehovah's witnesses.....how can they make such statements and not realize that even "worldly" people will feel insulted?
