this topic is to focus on status updates & advice (no opinion or politics please).. status.
latest status is that it's serious, probably isn't going to be contained and most large companies are making contingency plans, cancelling large events etc... which i don't think would happen if it was just people being alarmist.
the incubation period means it may have already spread further and infected many more people than are currently known, so expect jumps in the numbers over the coming days and weeks.. tracking.
Yes the U K is also moving towards lockdown with the over 70's told to stay indoors for months, large events cancelled and people advised against going to pubs , eating out etc.
I don't know what it is like on the street, I am confined indoors as an "at risk person" ( so they say)
Wifey has gone to try and beat the crowds at the supermarket, so as to keep a "social distnce" from people...
I see from the excellent link that Simon put up (top of this thread) that Britain is in the top 10 for reported cases, but how many are unknown since they dont test everyone?
Oh well, hunker down and keep smiling .... hope all my JW Discussion friends are ok...
i am no longer one of jehovah's witnesses, but i can remember the excellent talks given by the above frank sartin, an elder and i think at one time a zone overseer in the lancashire area of the uk.
upon doing some research i read that he died back in 2015. .
does anyone else remember him?.
"It was about obedience not faith."
That is dead right Giordano. .Even more so so today the whole thing is about obedience to the central leadership. Faith? Yes but faith to follow not to think or reason.
My history is nowhere near as accomplished as your own but when I resigned the B of E , the others did not want to know be , although I was for a while a normal cong member.
Anyway, must not hijack SBlackwell's thread,
NB... No, I never Knew a Bro Sartin... there were some pretty good speakers around in the old days. Sadly all the individuality seems to have been knocked out of them these days

I heard of a local cong , UK, having group meets...... That seems daft to me. I feel more vulnerable with a crowd in a small room. We would not be going.
https://www.nationalgeographic.com/history/2020/03/museum-of-the-bible-dead-sea-scrolls-forgeries/ independent researchers funded by the museum of the bible announced that all 16 of the museum’s dead sea scroll fragments are modern forgeries.
the museum ceo exclaimed, “we’re victims—we’re victims of misrepresentation, we’re victims of fraud.” the pieces are probably made of ancient leather, they were inked in modern times and modified to resemble real dead sea scrolls; all with the intention of deceiving for profit.
the researcher's report’s findings raise grave questions about the “post-2002” dead sea scroll fragments, a group of some 70 snippets of biblical text that entered the antiquities market in the 2000's.
I read this earlier... seems this museum purchased the fragments on the open market believing them to be a part of the Qumram hoard........but they were not. The latest findings say that they are modern fakes.
However, this does not reflect on the authenticity of the Dead Sea Scrolls themselves, in Jerusalem I believe.
a while back, we had a saturday wedding reception for a brother and sister from our kingdom hall.
the reception ended at midnight.
most of us got home at around 1:00 a.m. our sunday public talk meeting started at 9:30 a.m. .
Worst time to stay awake was Sunday afternoons in the Summer. The combination of a male voice going on and on , and heat was enough to have me "pushing out the zzzz" in 10 or 15 minutes.....
Latterly I found that taking a larger than suggested dose of high strength caffeine tablets would usually get me through...
It is a common thing though . At conventions one would see lots of sleepyheads. Funny thing is that the experienced ones could still follow the direction to look up scriptures ,correctly, while fast asleep! I have never understood that.

hi, my father is a jehovah's witness.
my sister wanted to do something nice for him and decided to have a shirt made with the ship he was on when he was in the navy many years ago.
he was not in the war, but he said that he can't wear it because jehovah's witnesses don't believe in war.
Hello tmkm30,
Your father is not wrong about the J W beliefs... Serving in the military is definitely not allowed , they would be conscientious objectors if necessary.
However, this was a loving gift ,specially nade, from a loved one. If this had happened to me when I served as a JW, I am sure I would have accepted the gift in the spirit of love.
Mind you, I could never wear it in the company of other Witnesses. .....
Sadly though, many Witnesses are not so reasonable and see only the "rules"
seriously, i can't help wondering whether their hiatus from meetings and service will alter their post-covid-19 lifestyle once they experience the freedom of life in the absence of the hamster wheel?.
I heard of a nearby congregation that is to arrange group meetings ( bit tough on the group household, I think)
So far Sis. Blues has not been told anything. If I did not get it from here and she did not know a free speaking elder's wife.... she would know nothing of this
As for the future? Will they be rejuvenated afterwards and leap back into action? Or be so out of the habit that they don't want to go back? ...... I guess the latter .
even if you are young and heathy there are very good reasons to fear this disease and take drastic actions to avoid it individually, and halt it together as communities.
not only would it be traumatic as a society to lose so many old and unwell family members and friends, but survivors of the disease may suffer significant health problems in the future.
survivors of the first sars virus in 2003 have suffered significant lung problems.
Have to say that I am more with SBF than those who say it is a panic response. I see people around here not respecting your space in a queue or taking the situation seriously. Also I am puzzled by our government’s laissez faire attitude... to let a number catch it and naturally build a “herd immunity “
I will stay home , I think
