You might be a Jehovah's Witness if.......
by Sour Grapes inyou might be a jehovah's witness if, to not feel guilty on saturday morning, you ride in a car with a group of adults driving in circles around town taking turns to get out one at a time to knock on a door that you hoped no one would answer.. you might be a jw if going on vacation meant going to a summer regional or district assembly where you did not need to pack shorts, tennis shoes, or tank tops.
.
you might be a jw if for lunch at the summer convention you and your family ate breakfast food from the holiday inn where you are staying for the summer assembly.. you might be a jw if the first thing that you think about when waking up in the morning is that it is meeting night.. you might be a jw if you introduce a person to another jw, not by the person's name by as my bible study.. you might be a jw if you don't celebrate christmas but will take the money from your employer to not come to work so that you can celebrate it..

Go Bag and Catastrophes
by StephaneLaliberte ini live with my parents in law and yesterday, my mother in-law was very nervous about an email she got from the brothers in her congregation.
it was asking if she would be able to receive people over at our house should there be a catastrophe.
so, she asked me if i would agree with this.

St George of England3 days ago
“In some countries a "Go Bag" may be a good idea and in no way would I belittle any such preparation. However, I think a "Stay Bag" is a far more useful concept especially for those of us in countries such as the UK. “
Yes I agree with that. A larder full of canned food is a good policy. Of course if your house is on a flood plain then a go bag would be a good thing. It is wrong though to apply the advice that suits California or “tornado alley” to the whole world.
I did hear that they were reminded to check their go bags recently. NB when they first came in they were confused with Armageddon bags ....no such luck.

Strong female characters in film before the 'Woke Era'
by LoveUniHateExams insince about 2015, hollywood has congratulated itself and circle-jerked over the 'strong women' characters they've written.
i'd say this roughly began with rey in the force awakens (2015).
what hollywood forgets is that strong characters have to have a personality, otherwise audiences don't really relate to them.. well, hollywood should really stop patting themselves on the back as if they've done something special.. strong female characters have been a staple for decades.. here's one: private vasquez, from aliens (1986).

My wife’s congregation got rid of its library at the direction of some bod from the Bethel. However some dubs took them home and keep them.
The direction to get rid of old stocks of campaign literature is different

Like living in any highly controlled society, it can be ok if you are happy to obey the rules and have your thinking done for you. Some people are like that. They feel safe in controlled environment and become afraid to trust their own judgement.
If you, and all your family and friends are in it then you have your own social world , quite a big one and you don't miss the birthdaysand Christmases because all that is alien to you.
The trouble comes if you are a bit of a maverick and buck the rules or, worse still, you start to think and question things.. Then you see The Society in a different light.

A shocking case and a total twisting of any Biblical, or WT direction on child discipline. I acccept that the WT books have upheld corporal punishment but never anything like that. The trouble is that if a man is by nature a controlling bully he can use it to justify his bullying.
I have never known any as bad but some very controlling husbands and fathers.
The more recent stuff on families has played down the “rod of discipline “ approach and been a lot softer.. going with the times, I guess

What does it prove? To put it bluntly it proves they know ##'## all! They are groping in the dark as much as the rest of us.
To use their own comments :
Wt April 2020.
"For one thing, Bible prophecies are often best understood when they are undergoing fulfillment or after they have been fulfilled. But there is another factor. To understand a prophecy correctly, we generally have to consider its context. If we focus on only one aspect of the prophecy and ignore the rest, we may draw the wrong conclusion. In hindsight, ........"
So we cannot know the fulfilment until AFTER the event. Excuse me but that is what anyone can do. I can tell you now that Finland beat Denmark at football last night, in bizarre circumstances. If a man had understood that in advance that would have been something - but we can all see it now.
You are just stating what is evident it is not Spirit direction or gifted insight just human observation . Hindsight is a different thing..

Time Indefinite
by StephaneLaliberte infrom a very young age, i was always annoyed by this translation time indefinite simply means: time that has not been defined.
where the new world translation uses "time indefinite", other translations use "everlasting" and "eternal".
honestly, it makes much more sense to me "everlasting" and "eternal" as "time indefinite" would leave room for god to define that time later on.

It seems that the WTS have dropped the phrase nowadays. I compared several texts in the old NWT against the 2013 edition and I could not find it in the later index.
Lev.3 : 17. (1984 NWT)
‘It is a statute to time indefinite for YOUR generations, in all YOUR dwelling places: YOU must not eat any fat or any blood+ at all.’”
(2013 NWT)
"It is a lasting statute for your generations, in all your dwelling places: You must not eat any fat or any blood+ at all.’”
There were plenty of other example but I had to look up my old printed Comprehensive Concordance.
