  The "Daniel Book", 1999, said that this refers to the "Cold war years" when Communists had crept in to the lords organisation and had been appointed to high positions of service, such infiltators caused some to fall into the hands of the authorities, and Jehovah allowed it to happen as a cleansing and refining of his people

  my judicial meeting took place on monday night.

  i was a bit annoyed because the meeting centered on my private beliefs - things that i've already spoken to the elders about in the past many times before.

  i don't think i handled myself as well as i wanted to, but i guess i did ok under the circumstances.

  I would prefer DA'ing over DF'ing.

  I just wondered why? it seems better to me to be able to protest that one has been kicked out for no good reason, than to be perceived as having turned your back on "The Truth"

  I am neither at the moment, just inactive and attending sometimes with family.

  Are Elders trianed in incompetence?

  here's some experiences of some people i knew in the truth who had personal problems.

  who were they to turn to , why the mature elders , even better you could write to the society.. so what happened?.

  friend 1.. friend number one knows he is gay ,he likes men big boys.

  Certainly there are lots of instances when elders act like dolts and even coniving scheming b*****ds to achieve their own acts of petty politics, as was the case in my last "Privilige of service" before I resigned, or was I removed? moot point.

  However,.. the actions that you describe seem to have been handled by the book.

  An admission of homosexual leanings is very serious, and the idea is that the elders have to act as a team - no secrets from each other. As for self abuse, I cannot think why they wrote up to Soc. there is plenty of published material I expect the Soc just referred to previous articles, but again they will view it a necesary to "Know the appearence of the flock"

  Jehovah "Tempers his Justice"

  someone among the top brass in brooklyn have had a rare moment of thought and come up with another adjustment in the endless line watchtower society new light.. some of you probably remember when they became tired of the expression: the society says, which of course identified to clearly who is really god in the lives of the witnesses, so they had to tell the witnesses to stop using that expression because it was extremely embarrassing.. this time it is another expression that shouldnt be used.

  not at all of the magnitude of the example above but still sufficiently important to someone, probably in the gb.

  i guess it took a couple of heated sessions in the gb to get this approved.

  This one struck me too.

  Whats wrong with tempering justice with mercy? The alternative is to have a strict code of black and white "like for like" punishments as the Islamic laws or even a strict interpretation of the Jewish law? I thought the whole difference with the teaching of Jesus Christ is that he DID temper that, with mercy and loving common sense.

  Todays study article had a reference to Jesus tempering the letter of the law by not rebuking the woman with a flow of blood when she pushed through the crowd to touch him ,although "unclean"

  Do they want to be able to apply strict justice?

  i told her all about george, the jw who has decided to make my pub his watering hole.

  i told her that he was on the verge of being banned for his loudness and his appalling rudeness to the landlady.

  I have known some wonderful eccentrics in the congs. that I have been in. eg.
  D...... , a lovely man - warm friendly as they come, as long as he kept taking his tablets because he was schitzophrenic and on a bad day, well - anything could happen!

  N.... , an old sister who was,in fact, intelligent but also cracked somehow and got confused, used give us all "Christmas Boxes" at the group study - I didnt have the heart to tell her off.

  I could go on,the list gets longer in my mind. .. But they were all harmless souls who really believed the message. Its the elders you gotta look out for!!

  I need a copy of CofC

  i went to my local library and they did not have a copy.

  is there a copy up on the web somewhere?

  i'm sure somebody has to have it, almost anything can be found on the web nowadays.. buying it is out of the question, i live with my parents.. i appreciate any help given.

  Hello Sexy,

  Just found the thread . I had the same problem of secrecy . If my wife had found the book , I could have been heading for a divorce court!

  The public library did manage to order it in for me (that is in the U K ) but that was a big city library - I believe you can travel to the town to use their library, I think they thought it must be something very "hot" because I insisted they phone me at work!

  It is well worth reading, although heavy going and very detailed.

  elder commits suicide.....need advice

  my sister-in-law's brother took his life sunday afternoon.

  it has been devastating to her and her family.

  I have just read the entire thread, and I just want to offer my condolances to you all at this terrible time. I can't help thinking of his poor wife too. Coping with such a tragedy would be even worse inside the org because ,after all, its not meant to happen among "Gods people" is it?
  I suspect she was persuaded to have a quick low key cremation. It is not something that they want to be known.
  Had you gone, I would have been interested to know how it was handled. I heard on good authority of an occasion of a suicide and they had a job getting an elder to conduct the funeral .Eventually one practical elder offered , but he took a lot of stick from the others.

  as an adult i held reservations, but it has always been official belief that we would be at peace with animals and they will literally all change to a veggie diet.. recent study of the "isaiah book page 16 shows a typical picture of wolf,bear etc, and likens it to changed personalities of people.

  a literal fulfillment?

  does it ever surprise you when you see people that you grew up with as a jw and they're still witnesses?

  i went to school with a lot of those jw kids my age and i can't believe that they continue to be jws when they are free of their parents.. i want to say," you're an adult with a high school education or a ged!

  haven't you figured the scam out?!".

  What can I say, raised in "The Truth" - I was turned 50 before the penny dropped and I came to see it for the empty ,illogical,Bible twisting load of old ******** that we now know it to be.

  Why? well I am no cleverer than the rest of them and although thoughts would cross ones my mind, the idea of it being wrong was just impossible - and I did not want it to be wrong. I recently read the description of cognitive dissonance on the Freeminds site. I guess that was me for a long time.

  Until something bad/traumatic, whatever you'd want to label it, happens personally to them
