Feeling glum about the football result!
i am so frustrated.
on one hand i want my parents "out of the truth" and then on the other hand...i wonder if it were to really harm them if they stayed.. i know that for me...to be out is the best thing to ever happen to me.
i have talked to my parents, devout jw's...mom is an ex-pioneer (disabled now) and dad is a ms (pushing for eldership).
The points in the original post are of course quite right, they do clam to have it both ways , but then

most members of jehovah's witnesses will tell you "once a baptized witness always a witness" there is no way out .
they most likely are referring to the so called knowledge of there "truth" as if the knowledge binds you forever to their rules.
Far from believing that once captured always kept, the faithful are constantly pressured to maintain "vigilance" to avoid weakening influences so that "You may never drift away" Hebrews 2.vs 1
But they do believe that one cannot forget the "Truth", perhaps they are right in a way because I will never shed the dominating influence of 40years of my life. - However once you have seen through it , and the veill is lifted, then there is no going back.
I was always surprised when visiting the ones who had left the cong, when they said "I know that its the truth but..."
If I did believe that, I would be at the book sudy right now, rather than having a great time conversing with my apostate frends on the net and listening to some ancient Rod Stewart tracks

i was wondering what the technical difference between a df and and apostate is from a jw perspective.
is there ever a point of no return according to current jw doctrine?

From an inside J W perspective, at least as I saw it, ordinary sins of the flesh are described in 1 Cor. 5 vs 11 -13 , and people are re instated from those all the time.
apostacy is specifcally described at 2 John vs 9 - 11. for such ones a harsher attitude is demonstrated.
It is not impossible to be re instated , but it would take an awful lot of grovelling over a considerable period to have them believe that one was really repentant. I have never heard of such a case.

i wonder how many jws r aware that candles have pagan origins as admitted by bishop newman(sp?
) in the 19th century?
should a faithfull jw have anything to do with candles therefore?
Lets get real here.
At K Halls I was attattached to we always had some candles in case of light failure. I recall during power cut, a brother manfully attempting a Bible reading by candlelight and a penlight torch . (Fire regulations be damned)
We have always had them at home . No doubt it was the ceremonial use of candles in worship, as on an alter that was not permitted.
Now I can say that such restiction may be over the top. But it would have made sense in the rule bound world of dub land

Hey Frustr8ted, you speak for us all. Many of us now find ourselves in "divided households " due to having woken up first.
This board is wonderful and our appreciation of Simon, aided and supported no doubt by his wife, should be repeated over and over!!!!!!!!!!!
well, it's coming upon another 28 day cycle and my wife is on her usual emotional rollercoaster.
the only difference now is that next week it's assembly time so i've got the annual fare of "we're growing apart" and "you never want to do anything i want to do" since i didn't want to go to the meeting with her today.
she'll say that she just wanted to be with me, but i'm not for any of the emotional blackmail that goes along with going to any meeting with her this time of the year.
After another "Difficult weekend" I can sympathise entirely. What was all that about "A quiet and mild spirit"??????????/
i am relatively new to the board and have to say have never had such a heartwarming welcome from so many people!
it feels so comforting to make new friends that "understand" where i have come from.. i have read many many stories, and have sat back in awe....wow, what stories.
mine is quite simple, but none-the-less my story.
How about a brotherly hug from an ageing hippie (in spirit anyway) that you have moved to tears ?.
I am sad that I was once a party to the organisation structure that produced such bad parental behaviour. I can only say that it was not the way it was meant to happen, but experience has shown me too many cases when such things did happen . Thank you for sharing.
