I first came across that one not long after the @^&$ hit the fan. With all due respect to the apostates out there, I decided that the best thing to do was to research it myself. Boy was I ever floored. To understand my reaction you have to know that when I first started studing with the JWs the congregations were going through the "Ezekiel" book. That book was very blunt about spiritual adultery and its consequences. So it was with the WTBTS's own teachings that I judged their actions. It was just another nail in the coffin!

Can anyone tell me about the UN
by PoppyR ini'm so sorry that i'm sure everytime somone new joins you're going over the same thing again, but all this is very new to me, in fact i've done very little this past week except read articles and cross reference the wt cd rom..lol, everyone thinks i'm getting spiritual again, anyway!
i have read several references to the jws and the un.. can anyone shed some light on the matter, ie point me in the direction of good posts or articles about it, as i'm still unclear what has been going on.
i'm most interested in the facts of the case which is what i think this board is best at!.

Simple. Don't go to meetings (even the once a year memorial). Don't answer the doorbell if you see it is them through the peephole. Don't answer the phone if the caller ID shows their number. Failing all that? Just move away and don't leave a forwarding address. Sooner or later, even THEY will get the message!

Thanks for posting that Nate. I think the problem for the GB and others is not in trying to prove JESUS right, it is more in trying excuse their own improper intepretations. (oh we just misunderstood how he meant that) They never want to embrace the concept that maybe we aren't in the time prophesied. Or, maybe even worse, Jesus never meant that to be anything other than a prophecy about the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 a.d.. Its their own shortcomings!

Is the 144,000 persons mentioned in Rev 7:4-8 literal or symbolic
by trem ini know that this may have been treated before but i still need your valuable suggestions.. rev 7:4 says "and i heard the number of those who were sealed, a hundred and forty-four thousand, sealed out of every tribe of the sons of israel", veses 5 to 8 provides additional details that 12,000 were selected from the 12 tribes of israel.
the book of numbers 1: 20-42 lists the following as the 12 tribes of natural israel: reu ben, sim eon, gad, judah, is sachar, zeb ulun, e phraim, manas seh, benjamin, dan, ash er and naph tali.
however, rev 7:5-8 did not list the tribes of ephraim and dan but instead listed 10 approved tribes with 2 non approved tribes of levi and joseph.

The teaching that 144,ooo is a literal number is one of the few teachings of Russell the WTBTS still holds to. In my opinion they hold to it since their authority structure is bound up with it. Russell got around the question of the numbers of Christians since Pentecost 33 a.d. by teaching that "the great crowd" was a secondary heavenly class made up of those who couldn't quite make the grade. I tend to think more in terms of the number being symbolic. However, I am not certain.

even though this board had already prepared me for what i was going to be seeing, it still surprised me.

One word of hope. My wife is going to college right now. She tells me that the local Dubs are ignoring the directions of the "Faithful and Discrete Slave" in the matter of higher education. Their kids are going to college!

Misinformation in CoC
by ICBehindtheCurtain inhello everyone, i know that many here like me have read ray's book crisis of consience, i was very impressed with it, it helped open my eyes to the hypocrisy and double standards of the wts, and ray gave me the impresion of being a very loving and kind man, not the demonized apostate we were all lead to believe.
but, i noticed something that wasn't quite correct when i was reading the part that spoke of then brother rene vazquez, he makes it seem like all rene did was have private conversations with ray and nothing else, this is not true, i for a fact know that this was not all that happened.
in a ms meeting on tuesday back in 1980, rene was conducting a part and he went up to the stage with only his bible, he started saying that all we needed was the bible, that we would no longer be using other publications by the wts .

Have you ever tought about the possibility that Franz didn't have full access to the story himself because of the way the Governing Body sprung the whole fait accompli on him before he could get all the facts? They certainly had to time it that way so that he couldn't have all the facts he needed to defend himself against the charges they levied against him. Then they DF'd him just as quick as they could frame something against him. That would've also made it difficult for Franz to get all the info about what happened.
It is just a thought.

Oh yes! I had one about 16 years ago. At the time we were moving from one house to another. I knew it was time to go to the ER when the broken glass in a window looked realllll good. I lived on Demerol about a month and pissing through a screen before I was finally rid of the #%&@$& thing. The nausea was an improvment as far as I was concerned. Hang on friend. It will get better.
