My research has told me that historians and anthropologists consider an ancient generation to be 15-20 years.
Modern generations are roughly 25 years.
i cannot provide any background info on my dad except to say that he is not an attender anymore, but is not apostate.. years ago, my dad showed me why he thought 1975 was wrong, and he gave me a date like 2011, 2012...back in 2004.. it actually made sense to me back then, and obve's posts reminded me of my dad's calculations..... only my dad's calculations were not based on addition or multiplying of random crazy numbers, .
but actually were logical assumptions based on the scriptures as he understood them.. here is his email to me...it might be lengthy, but it is easy to follow and understand.
(sorry for the large font, it was the font he used in the email.

just wondering if anybody else has heard of a change of the generation teaching again and a change in some of the parables, this was heard by a friend of mine from a couple that was entering gilead(puke) and by a c.o.
just wondering if anybody else has caught wind of this, or if has been written in the new witness only wt.
Welcome Brooke.
The 1995 generation change was a large reason for many dubs leaving the organization. It was a major shift in doctrine. A major shift in doctrine that the WTS blamed on the rank and file.
at the agm it was announced that all elders in the us will attend a weeks 5 days kingdom ministry school next year.
there will be a different class held at patterson each week until all us elders have attended.
not sure about other countries.
I'll admit to being torn on this one.
One on hand I can't imagine going to a week long course at Patterson. I remember the two week courses held in the early 70s, Schroeder taught them as I recall.
On the other hand I would absolutely love to sit there and here what the heck is going on. To see brothers from various parts of the circuit and talk over their issues both personally and congregationally.
If this does occur and a new elders manual does come out, I'll bet links to it will be posted here within weeks of its distribution.
spoke to cynthia the other day.
ray is with his publisher on a book tour in germany and eastern europe.
if you hail from that neck or the woods maybe you can shake his hand.. changeling.
Did Cynthia believe Ray right away or did he have to endure the unbelieving mate syndrome that many of us are?
Did she come around to leaving the dubs right away? or did it take time?
Thanks
my parents just came back from the annual bethel meeting in brooklyn.
they said only 3 of the gb were there.
they felt the need to inform me of everything even though i was in a blur watching tv.
Inda,
I really appreciate you starting this thread to share what you heard with us. Would it be possible next time to turn the tv down and take detailed notes (ok not on paper or anything but mentally)? This is not a meeting very many JWs get to attend - in fact it's down right slim pickin's on who goes. Any and all information is valuable.
Again, thank you so much for sharing.
i have much to be thankful this year.
hubby and i continue to work out (and enjoy) our differences.
my son has stayed off street drugs since february.
Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i read an interesting statement in "the new testament in its social environment," by stambaugh and balch.
it referenced acts 15 and 1 corinthians as evidence that paul later disagreed with the jerusalem ruling and overturned it..on his own...without 'consulting' any group.
i found the following qfr on the cd-rom.
Great thread.
TD you beat me to it as well. The WTS' answer to this issue is weak and ridiculous. And it weakens their anti-blood stance.
just wanted to drop a line of thanks for the friend who gave me the best birthday party i have ever had.. my first two cigars] ... .
thanks isn't even close to enough, m'man.. respectfully,.
auldsoul.
Happy birthday Auld Soul. I'm sorry I missed it. I hope to join in next year.
yesterday was the day - that my marriage of over 10 1/2 years to my jw wife was dissolved....finally.... - i am in a terrific mood today!
my wife and i have joint physical and legal custody of the kids which is awesome!
she doesn't make them go to meetings or go out in service and she has to allow all extra carricular activities.
It's great to hear from you Billzfan. I am really happy that the divorce is final.
Congratulations.
Please don't lose the information you've gathered - you never know when someone on this board may have to borrow it.
