A mother and daughter (Mrs. and Miss Paine) attended a congregation in northeast MD. During the WT study, the mother was sitting in one of the front rows and her daughter sitting with her friends near the back, both raised their hands to answer the same question. So, the conductor simply called on "Sister Paine in the rear" at which point the entire congregation erupted in hysterical laughter, except for the conductor, who had NO idea.

"My Book of Bible Stories" returned for being "too violent for kids." You Agree?
by Witness 007 inobviously a book written for kids by old dumb morons at bethel the book starts with abels murder {with pictures for the kids} people begging to get into the ark before drowning to death...a good lesson for kiddies!
a women putting a tent peg thru someones temple {with pictures} moses killing an egyptian.
etc a horrified atheist lady returned the books my mother gave as "gifts" {count 2 placements} after seeing the horrific topics, she decided it was "not apropriate for her kids.".

Good for that lady.
I bought a Christian bible story book for my niece and my JW mother-in-law threw a fit over it. I asked her if she would my niece watch murders on TV. She said no. Then I said "Why would you let her see pictures of murders in the My Book of Bible Stories?" The Christian book I bought my niece was kid friendly and had nothing graphic in it. She got mad and changed the subject.
That book was just awful. No wonder JW children have so many nightmares and anxiety issues.

So, Was Your Life RUINED Because You Were A JW?
by minimus inthe fact that you were a witness, did it actually "ruin" your life?
?.

Saoirse
No. It may have made things a bit more difficult at first but it certainly hasn't ruined it. I'm much happier now. Sometimes, I think it would have been nice to be raised as a non-JW but then I wouldn't have had some of the experiences that helped shape who I am today. I thinking overcoming the JW handicap as made me a far better person.
Now am at the point where I actually feel empowered because I am an ex-JW. It was difficult to leave friends & family and the hatred and abuse that was hurled at me for being an "apostate" wasn't a pleasant thing to deal with. But after surviving that, I feel like I can accomplish anything now.

My sisters partner died last night
by wobble inmy sister has pioneered since shortly after she left school in the mid-sixties.
she has had the same pioneer partner ,and shared a house with her,for over thirty years.. last night her long time friend died.
she had not enjoyed the best of health in recent years, but at 59, this is a devastating shock to my sister.. the problem is i don't really know what to say to her, she knows i don't believe the wt's view on life after death, so i suppose i shall just have to provide a listening ear.

I'm sorry to hear about your sister's friend. That must be quite a loss for her.
You don't have to say anything other than offer your sympathy and to tell her she's in your thoughts. Beyond that, just provide a listening ear. That's usually the biggest need that a grieving person has. It's not the time to argue doctrine or theology. If she says anything about the the New order, just politely listen. You don't have to agree to or affirm anything she says.

To all the Christians on here...
by homeschool ini realize you believe the bible is the truth.
do you believe it is the only truth?
i wonder how you feel about other major religious books, like for other religions who have and never will be christian.

AwSnap, Were you raised a JW? In the JW view, mainstream Christians are considered to be part of Christendom and actually under control of the Devil. JWs are even instructed not to attend weddings or funerals in a church. Because of that, it's common for ex-JWs to have a weird feeling about Christianity & churches. I don't see that as extreme at all.

Hi wavvy,
judgment: the cognitive process of reaching a decision or drawing conclusions
Pointing out biblical truth is not judging. Pointing someone towards salvation is not judging. Guidance maybe, but not judging. If you knew someone was in danger, wouldn't you warn them?
JWs are a counterfeit Christianity. Nothing but a deception meant to lead people away from Christ. You can't compare the two because they are nothing alike.
As far as open-minded - I guess that depends on what your definition of open minded is.
After I left the JWs, I spent over 10 yrs being so-called open minded. I looked at everything (Buddhism, Paganism, New Age, Agnostic) EXCEPT Christianity. Those Christians are crazy you know - and demonized! They're just like JWs! Why would I ever want to be one of those? I guess I wasn't so "open-minded" was I?
Those other beliefs or non-beliefs never brought me real peace or joy. They only made me more confused. The true Christians (non-JWs) I encountered over the years were the only ones that seemed to me to have their act together. They weren't perfect, no one is, but they were joyful, they had peace, they weren't bitter and negative all the time. At one time, I used to despise them for it. I guess because I knew they had something I didn't. Sad isn't it? But deep down, that's what I really wanted.
When I finally turned my life over to Christ, He completely changed me. He turned my world upside and made me into a new person. For the first time in my life, I knew what freedom was and I have never looked back. My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner.

Rumor: JWs in Canada paid for new recruits???
by Saoirse infor the 2nd time this week, when i mentioned to someone that i am a former jw, i was asked if jws were paid for each new recruit.
one girl told me that she heard that jws were paid $1200 for each new convert.

Thank you dissed. I had forgotten all about Special Pioneers. That scenario makes sense. I have no idea where the $1200 comes from unless that was their monthly/yearly stipend. Not much to live on either way. The special pioneer I knew lived with her parents and got handouts from congregation members. I'd love to know what they are actually paid and how many there are.

One girl told me that she heard that JWs were paid $1200 for each new convert. I told them it wasn't true and I had never heard of this before. I never attended a Canadian congregation and I never heard this rumor in the US. Does anyone know why people think that or where that rumor got started?

Welcome yellow & finding my way!
Leaving a cult and being shunned for it isn't easy. It was probably one of the most difficult things I have ever gone through. It does get better though. As you will see, many of us have gone on to lead happy & productive lives. There is life after the Watchtower. Nothing is better than freedom.
