I have a question about the assemblies.

when i was young (er) the society said the army came to the assemblies to observe how they fed the flock.. my question is, even though the asemblies were much more grander then now, with the food distribution ending and all, feeding thousands of people.

now they bring their own lunches.......i regress...does anyone remember how the military was in awe of us?.

the crisis over north korea's nuclear weapons programme deepened yesterday as the north claimed it had made enough plutonium for six atomic bombs, and a former us defence secretary warned that the two countries could be at war by the end of the year.. the latest claim from pyongyang was communicated to the bush administration last week, three months after north korea said it was beginning to reprocess 8,000 spent nuclear fuel rods that were under united nations seal until the un inspectors were ejected from the country at the end of 2002.. us intelligence agencies are now trying to determine whether the boast is true or merely another bluff by the reclusive stalinist regime.. either way, the declaration has pushed the us president a step nearer deciding whether to accede to north korea's demand for direct negotiations - and thus drop his previous insistence that he would never bow to "nuclear blackmail" - or to accelerate plans for a military strike against the north's nuclear installations.. that spectre was raised yesterday by william perry, defence secretary under president clinton, when he told the washington post that the bush administration was "losing control" of the situation.. mr perry is a specialist on korea who helped prepare the military action which mr clinton came close to launching against yongbyon and other key north korean sites in 1994. he now fears that the north is not only close to a nuclear test to show the world it is a nuclear power, but also that it could sell a weapon to a terrorist group for use against the us.. It might but I doubt it would have any substantive effect. I would be afraid if I was the US. Because this little country could inflict some severe damage on the US. You need to read up on their capabilities.

That sounds a little strange. The most powerful country in the world should be afraid of a little communist wannabe power.

I know they have a million man military and they are trying desperately to get an atomic arsenal. I think they have some short range missiles. They may have some biological or chemical wmd's.

But, we can match and raise them on anything they care to use, many times over.

We should fear them? Not!

I really do not care what they think of us.

Who in their right mind would compare (favorably) a communist dictatorship to the U.S., or any other free world country? North Korea is a bankrupt communist country, like other failed communist countries. It wants the wealth of South Korea and has pressed for seizing the South for many years, it would be a catastrophic mistake to do anything other than stand up firmly against their aggression.

Seriously have you never thought of diplomacy?

I was a little young to remember well, but I believe FDR's administration was in diplomatic talks while Japan was moving aircraft carriers into position to attack Hawaii.

I remember Carter's diplomacy while Iran kept Americans hostage for 444 days.

I remember Clinton's diplomacy while Korea gained the nuclear capability they now have.

I remember Truman's diplomacy when he ordered the bomb to be dropped on Japan and gave Japan a definite number of hours to surrender, they didn't. He then ordered another bomb dropped and they decided it was advantageous for Japan to surrender, unconditionally.

I remember Reagan's diplomacy when he determined that a superior military was needed to break the back of the Soviet Union, it did.

I choose the later two examples of diplomacy.

This is definitely one for sweet talking!

I think not.

It might not do much for the rambo image but its the only way.

I think that statement has been proven false over and over again throughout history.

I wouldn't expect the NKs to sit around and let you evacuate and configure your armaments. They would act pre-emptively with WMD. Its definitely an unwinnable situation.

You might be right, but, we have 8000 nuclear tipped missiles which can reach anyplace on earth, that might cause a little fear in North Korea. North Korea seems to be led by men who would like to expand their tyranny as far as possible, it probably will not get better by just appeasing them.

I do not think we have the option of leaving them alone.

It may not be too late now, but it definitely will be too late soon.

Of course if I were president, I would surround myself with the best advisors possible and listen to all of the arguments they would offer.

My inclination right now, would be to make no deals, Clinton made a deal with them and they ignored it while they proceeded to keep building the nuclear program.

If they are a threat to the world right now, they will be 10 times more of a threat in a few years.

I think I would consider evacuating South Korea, maybe 50 - 100 miles from the DMZ, if possible, move in our best military equipment and available troops, then strike all of their nuclear facilities.

there are accomodations on the grounds of the blue mountain christian retreat and they are very inexpensive.

I have attended Pennsylvania the last 10 - 11 years, I really love it there. I have a lot to do the rest of this year, I plan to move to California before October so I hope that does not interfere with my going to PA.

I do not mean to hijack the thread, but would like to mention that Dan Hall's convention will be Aug. 8 - 10, in San Francisco, all are welcome there also. I have made all arrangements to be there, would like to see some of you there.

I'll be honest this time.

After leaving the WT I used the email name Xcultist, but was never on a forum like this. The song Bornfree used to go through my mind all of the time. When I heard a few people reffering to the WT as the Borg I started replacing Bornfree with Borgfree, when I thought of the song. I then started using that name (Borgfree) as my on screen name, and my license plates.
