Do you have to be Anointed to be called a Jehovah's Witness?

in the above thread i said, ?to truely call yourself a jehovah's witness, you have to be one of the 144,000 (anointed).

truthfully you can only truely be a champion or associate.

It kind of goes along with the thought in the Greek Scriptures about the anointed being "ambassadors substituting for Christ." While that applies only to the anointed, the WT will refer to members of the great crowd as "envoys." Seems like it is splitting hairs to me.

I have always been taught that while we who were of hte great crowd were not in that special covenant relationship with Jehovah, we, by means of our actions, were his witnesses. I believe Odrade is right. She is very witness sounding. great lingo.

I am so glad you called the manager. That is ridiculous. I used to get that from some of the witnesses who came in the restaurant where I worked. They would not place their order with me. And if they did, they would say only what they wanted and not say thanks or anything. My coworkers all noticed it and said what a stupid thing it was. Most of the witnesses were still extremely friendly, thouough, or at least cordial and polite.

Interesting article. Of course one has to realize that a blanket use of the term gay community is misleading. There are different personalities, scenes, and values adopted by gays and lesbians, just as there is in the heterosexual community.

the wts & its various corporations are a behemoth, rudderless ship with no one at the helm; only concerned with self-preservation.

the result is an inflexible organization slow to make change and not interested in the welfare & rights of individual members.. the internet and boards such as this allow for excellent communication and freedom of information.. because the internet is free and provides relative anonymity it has proven to be one of the greatest threats to the wts.. the wts leaders could be proactive and act in an ethical way, but they'd rather react when a perceived "threat" arises -- telling members to avoid the internet, shun family members, do more/stay busy, and so on.. as jt used to say, "i love this 'net thang".

I understood when they warned against porn. I understood when they warned against apostate websites. But when they said witnesses could not have their own websites and said that witnesses should not associate with other witnesses online, all I could think was "what the flock?"

Of course now I realize that they are just afraid of people becoming enlightened

No Hospitality- for Int'l Delegates! remember?...

a few years ago while in south orange county, socal there was an announcement made.

they needed volunteers to open their homes to our bro's and sis' that were coming in as international delegates.

this was supposed to be a showing of solidarity to our brethren elsewhere and a showing of jw unity and brotherly love (barf).. however, hardly anyone volunteered their homes!

When we had our Quickbuild, I, along with an elder, were in charge of rooming. Some friends were very generous, but I found myself having to write three letters asking for assisstance from our cong and the neighboring congs. Then I had to call individual families in our cong and the neighboring congrgations. It was very disappointing and a member of the RBC chastised me and the elder for not putting forth enough effort. uggh.

They are so evil and then they try to associate themselves with the Gay Rights movement. AARGH again! cause soem uniformed people lump us all together.

Were the doors locked at your KH, during meetings?

i remember a time when the brothers locked the doors during a meeting.

if you arrived late, they had to come and unlock the door to let you in.

i also remember a time when they weren't locked.

It depended on our area. The little rural cong where I was, we never locked the doors. In some of the bigger cities though, due to crime the doors were locked. I personally htought that locking the doors was a bit extrme.

three years ago my brother moved in with my grandmother.

he is baptised but faded from the organization 10+ years ago.

But, of course, there are a few elders who do trylu try to shepherd without being nosy. The type that call when they miss you, but don't ask why you weren't there. Offer to help without being condescending. etc. I've known a few elders like taht. But only a few.

We had an elder in my old cong. His oldest son and daughter in law were both disfellowshipped. They had a two year old and she was pregnant again. The son was very sick and could not support his family. The elder and his former missionary wife allowed their son and his family to move into their home for a while. The other two elders, who were bot much less experienced to the "truth" and to elderhood, counseled him. Before all was said and done they had gone to the CO and as a result Bro M was removed as a elder. Fortunately, we got a new CO and the brother was reappointed in 6 months. He is a very good man and his wife, well, in a perfect world she'd be an elder...it was hard to watdh them being treated so unjustly. Yet, they are stilla part of it.
