What is up with all the recent disfellowshipping/ disassociations?
by sf ini mean, is it just me or is there a noticable increase in such over the last few months?.
it would appear too, that it isn't going to let up anytime soon.
odds are there will be even more.. but why?

Perhaps there's an internal power struggle that culminated in the split of the CCJW and the WTBTS. The new power group is consolidating its power by the traditional purges. (cf. Antony & Octavian, Stalin, etc.).

Just watched a really cool movie: "Eulogy" -- anybody else see it?
by cruzanheart in.
we have a new "surroundsound" system, so when the casket blew up the kids came running downstairs to see what the hell we were watching, which caused us to seriously crack up.. well, i thought it was funny!!!

Your grammar is horrible and your word choice and sentence structure are very tautological. Plus I've never even seen a definition for reverse enthalpy, I only learned about enthalpy and thermodynamics in chemistry, of course. Please defend your hypothetical proposition.

7. They found a language where Awake means something foul.
In Glarbenstan, where they speek Glarben, it means "jet-fulled, monkey-navigated death machine of Satan."

What's your take on morality?
by Narkissos inas former jws we were part of a highly moralising religion.
we have experienced the disastrous consequences of it in terms of hypocrisy, judgementalism or pathologic guilt.
most of us have changed our "moral parameters" drastically, but how far have we gone in questioning morality itself?.

I find it interesting, I believe one of the 10 commandments actually says "You shall not murder," rather than "You shall not kill" as it is commonly translated, so it is alright to kill. The REB translates it, "Do not commit murder" (Ex. 20:13). I think there are some things that are absolutely wrong, but we are not always held fully responsible for these wrong actions. They say there are three conditions that must be met for a sin to be considered "mortal": 1. Grevious matter 2. Sufficient Reflection and 3. Consent of Will.

Sharing birthdays with famous people
by target inwhen my husband was convinced to be baptized back in '74, the jw who studied with my husband went with him to meet with the elders.
when the elder asked for my husband's birthday for his records, he said nov 12 and the jw says "not my birthday, he wants yours".
my husband says, "it is mine".

Well, its hard to put an actual date on it. Of course, when I faded around 13-14, I went from JW to atheist rather easily. I always had trouble believing it because I could never really believe in something that keeps putting me to sleep. I never picked the doctrines too much at first, I instead noticed how their studies, especially the Q&A format, weren't really questions testing knowledge, just reinforcement. I was also pissed whenever I saw "avoid independent thinking".
