I used to daydream that we'd have a bomb threat so that the meeting would be cancelled. And during conventions, I always sat close to where the sign langauge translater was, had much more fun trying to figure what hand signs went with what words. Plus my best friend and I learned enough that we could discreetly sign to each other across the aisle. Passed the time! Hg

favourite games to play as a child during boring meetings
by Surfacing inmy parents were both very strict, and i wasn't allowed any toys at the hall.
my rations included a copy of my book of bible stories, and a pen and note pad.
my parents were strict to the point of not allowing me to draw pictures, i had to "take notes".

I have to agree with Jez, make them come to you. I waited for 9 yrs. and one night at 2am my oldest brother showed up at my door, just to talk. He comes over once a week to spend time with me and my family. He's still JW, but a fence sitter, and he doesn't let my other brothers or my parents know that he comes to my house. Now I'm just waiting for my other brothers and my mom to come around. I have no hope for my dad. He's a self righteous elder, tryannical, etc... So Jaredg, be careful not to play to their rules too much, you might end up sacrificing your principals. hg

hey... 16 years of the same 212 songs... eventually they get stuck in your head! That's not funny! Every once in a while, I catch myself humming a Kingdom Melody. And at first I can't figure out what it is, and then OMG, I realize what I'm humming. They sure do a good job of brainwashing.

To all those still lurking,,, this is the best website to get support from ever! For the longest time I felt very alone in the world with the experience I had gone through, but so many on this understand and have gone through the same stuff, it's very comforting.

sorry, International Break Time. 10:30 am every Sat during field service. If we didn't have any serious JW's in our group, we made it last til noon, just talking and eating! The best part of having to endure Sat mornings without cartoons!

I remember being told that I was being punished in this was by being shunned because I knew better, I knew what was expected of me. Can't the same be said about the criminal? Doesn't he know better in our society, doesn't he know what's expected of him according to the worlds standards? But that's right, JW's don't have worldly stardards, they're much worse!

I just had an interesting experience today. I ran into an old ex-friend that had just been released from prison. He was sentenced for selling pot to the highschool girls he coached for soccer and for sleeping with underage girls. He's in his early 40's. Anyway, he saw me before I could escape and told me that he had been attending JW 'prayer meetings' for a month now and had just met my parents and of course told them that he knew me. He said he attended because the bible discussions were soooo deep. Anyway I was df'd 9 yrs ago, to keep the cong. clean, but now with open arms they welcome someone with a criminal and sexual record. Eveyone knows about it too, because it's been in the local paper. I'm feeling pretty upset because my own parent will talk with this man and accept him, but shun their own daughter. Does this seem right to you? I've been fine with my parents not talking to me, I've resolved it in my head and heart, but after today it brought it all right back in my face. hg

I remember the smurf one. My Mom threw all my smurf stuff away and I was banned from watching them on TV from then on. I watch them now with my kids, catching up on all the episodes I missed! The smurfs haven't jumped outta the TV at us yet! Ha
