How do you feel about Tatoos?

i feel very offended and distrurbed when i see people covered with tatoos.

some people have tatoos all over their bodies, even on their faces.

there are also tatoo programs on the tlc channel that children can watch without a forewarning before the show comes on.

Tattoos are a personal choice. I won't condem those who decide to have them done, neither does it offend me. But most times tattos are done because its the latest fad. I still remember when everyone was getting their barbed wired tattoos around their biceps. Almost everyone at college was sporting one. Now the barbed wired tattoo has come and gone, and anyone with one looks mighty stupid.

At one time in my life I was thinking about getting a tattoo but ended up deciding against it. I haven't found something yet that defines me that I wouldn't mind having on my body for the rest of my life. For now I'm happy being one of the few unique persons that don't have any tattoos.

the elders ignored my last letter...i wonder if they can ignore this one???

I find it absolutely astounding that the hottest political issues are matters which do not concern us ourselves. How does it affect my life if gays are allowed to marry?

Well the same thing can be said about everything. How does it affect everyone's life if jehovah's witnesses don't let their members marry people not in the same faith?

Dear HadEnuf:

It is a nice letter, don't get me wrong I didn't mean to bash it. I was just speaking from what came to mind when I first read it. Yes, JW do not accept anyone who is not part of their cult. But If I were gay I would have to say that I wish I had it that easy. Yes jw deny that right but all you had to do was leave, most gays on the other hand have the government telling them what to do or what not to do. So its a huge difference right there, from the government banning something to the jws banning with their stupid little rules. In this case the government is also at fault as you put it for controlling who people can marry.

Good letter.

It will seem trivial in most readers eyes though. You can't really compare it to any other type of discrimination like gay weddings or such. All you have to do to when discriminated by JW's is leave their religion. Its not like you are forced to stay being a member. Who cares what a couple hundred jws think? Good to read that your family left this cult. Gays that want to marry don't have it that easy. Usually they have to battle government laws in top of public opinion.

Should I warn this householder of the danger?

i was out today and working with a well-indoctrinated brother ("brother b").

we were hitting houses with tracts then running, until we went on his call.

brother b was trying to give him an asleep and a tract, and invite him to the talk today, which was given by a bethelite (and it was a heavy indoctrination session, which is another story).

Further, the man was concerned because his wife "thinks we are a cult." I had never heard a householder this informed about the witnesses!

You must be living under a rock then. Most people already feel like this towards the witnesses, nothing new.

Is Jehovah evil? Overheard at the public talk.

i heard a new teaching from the public talk today that i'd never heard before.

the speaker asked a rhetorical question, asking if jehovah would be evil for killing 6 billion people during armageddon?

(yes, he actually said, killing 6 billion people) he then followed it up by saying 'yes!

This is why I think public talks do not always convey the message that the wts wants too. When someone gets assigned a public talk all you get is an outline of the subject, its not scripted at all. I gave many public talks and I remember trying to fill up the time slots with as much information that I could find from other sources. There's no way for the wts to police this unless an elder from the hall actually sits down with the same outline and follows it line by line. Even then its up to personal interpretation, I can say that I felt the material in the outline needed me to cover it this way, while another elder would actually do it a completely different way.

Its funny but looking back I would spew so much stuff on public talks that wasn't even on the original outline. Not once did I get counseled about that. All I ever got was, 'what a great talk, where did you get your information?'. Most of the times when someone is giving a public talk that person will tailor it to what he beileves and he is comfortable talking about, not what the wts wants. There's so much leeway that I'm surprised its not caught more often.

Interesting. There seemed to be a lot of people criticizing this documentary before even seeing it. Just like the WTS and its members do with so called 'apostate' literature. I for one will not be watching it, because it doesn't interest me. I agree with Gary on not wasting time and money on witnesses who beleive and don't want to change. I would only help those that want to get help or come to me with questions.

i started yesterday about my mom being a jw and my being so confused about, well, just about everything.

like i said earlier my parents got divorced and then remarried.

my dad goes to the meetings sometimes when he is not out gambling or making someone miserable with his hateful demeanor.

It must be hard to try and please your mom who is a JW. In my opinion you're old enough now to tell your mother what the things are that you beleive in. I mean you're not mommy's little child anymore, you have a family, kids and so on. It's time to live your life. I don't think she can force you to attend the hall, unless you let her, especially when you're 38 years old and are married with your own family. Unless you live at her house. That stuff were parents usually force their kids to go to the meetings only works when the kids are 18 years or younger.

If your mother is a hardcore jw like mine is, she will never understand the reasons why you don't beleive in the WTS anymore. Best thing is to show her that you love her but you are not going to do what the WTS wants you to do. You have a life with your family and now its their time, not your mother's time.

this week at the book study, at all congregations in the u.s., a letter was read saying if you go to a house or property with a "no trespassing" sign, you must not enter, or knock on the door.

I thought this was pretty interesting. There must be some lawsuits out there.

Just goes to show that most here don't keep up with their news in the hall. I've known this since I was attending the kingdom hall back in 1996. So this is nothing new, basically if there's a no tresspasing sing, we never entered the premises.

Now some followed the advice others didn't. But this is nothing new.
