My mom was very stick on who I associated with and for many years I thought that JWs could do NO wrong. So when my mom said that she did not want me associating with various persons in the congregation and even those in "The world" I could not comprehend. If I could not associate with those in the world then at least I should be able to associate anyone in the congregation. Her reply would be that some in the congregation are "goats" and worldly themselves. So heck I could not have no clique. Thanks mom.

congregational cliques
by chuckyy init was my experience during my 13 yrs as a jw that congregations usually had a social clique.
in other words, there would be a group of people in a congregation that would only associate (and sometimes only go out on field service too) with people within that social clique.
if you were in the clique, fine.

And giving your first talk? I found my first talk I gave. I was so corny and nervous and get graded for your efforts and the rehearsing for sisters with other sisters. And brothers having to rehearse for their parts and having to time your talks for five minutes. After I joined the school it seemed like I had to give a talk every other month and they would come quick. I am soooooooooo glad I don't have to do that anymore. Anyone feel the same way?

My brother use to sing them loud but without any sound coming out of his mouth. The elders used to encourage us to sing loud with our mouths wide open like the apostle on the back cover of the songbook. Its funny that I can still remember some of those songs. Also, were there any songs that were you favorite? I can't remember the name of the songs but I can sing it for you : )

JW's and records
by frozen one inthis is a bit of an expansion on the above thread.... if memory serves (which is questionable), it seems that i read or heard that if a witness had employment which made them privy to files at work and if they saw something in the files that may be evidence of "wrong doing" that they were obligated to report the information to the elders.
for example, if a dub worked at a video store and saw that another witness had been renting r rated movies or (gasp) porn, the elders needed to know this.
or maybe a witness worked at a hospital and had access to medical files, the elders would need to know if anyone had been treated for vd, had a forbidden blood treatment, or if a sister had an abortion.

I remember the rule being that if you see another JW doing wrong or involved in something that is unchristian you are REQUIRED to report it to the elders. If not, you are as guilty as the person involved in the wrongdoing because you know about it.

Well I guess this would count as embarrassing. During one of the public talks I feel asleep and started leaning into the aisle and fell over. I jumped up so quick and tried to play it off as if I was trying to reach for something.

So where are all of you going to convention?
by ValiantBoy in.

My mother always goes to Richmond VA or to Crownsville, MD for her conventions. She always calls my sister who have way goes to the meeting and is also DF to see if she is going. If she does not go she gets an attitude.

Is anyone on this forum disfellowshipped?
by Kimmee inand if you are do you care to tell why you are disfellowshipped?
for those who were not what prevented you from being disfellowshipped?
curious minds want to know.

Its funny when people know you are DF, how they walk by you and turn their heads the opposite way so not to look at you. I LAUGH big time. They act as if I am contagious or something. Isn't that judging which the bible forbids us to do? It used to bother me but it does not anymore.

How many here are married to a witness?
by Why Georgia injust wondering how many others there are like me who are married to a witness who is either actively going or fading away?
i have found that even though my husband is fading away - he still has a lot of those witness thoughts.. it's definately better that he is away from them and not getting their "spiritual food (vomit)".
but i still have worries when his mother calls and invites us to the memorial or tries to give us the latest book.. i feel my blood pressure just about go through the roof.. i'm glad there are places like this board to talk with people and get support from real " friends".

I was the witness in this case. I married a non-believer. At this time I am no longer a witness nor is my present husband. My husband stated if I even thought about going back to the witness faith he would leave me. Now that's deep. He has known of some of my past. I tell you it takes a couple of years to detach yourself from the witness type of thinking.
