This is a very interesting, proposal. Many times when little people sue huge corporations (and this is a HUGE religious corporation), even when they lose, they affect change. Look at the tobacco industry. And remember, one does not have to have a legal precedence to sue civilly. Civil suits SET precedence. Even though one would probably lose, one could shed some light where it desperately needs to be shed. I think one of the most effective angles would be from those raised "in" but never baptized, and abused, neglected, or denied higher educations (I see punitive, as well as suffering, and lost wages). After all, these ones did not have benefit of a miraculous conversion, years of study, etc. they had no choice. Also, a non practicing spouse could sue for anguish in marriage, or threat of life to minors in the home due to not taking blood. One thing's for sure, one would have to have a phenomenal attorney, and that would not be cheap.
Also, (and this is just my personal opinion) I think it should not be carried out in a draconian manner. It should be done in the interest of true justice, and attempting to keep an organization honest and protecting others.

Class Action Lawsuit
by mikepence ini am seriously considering finding out what is involved in putting together a lawsuit against the wts.
one that all xjw's in the us can join in.. has the wts not violated our civil rights, taken away our right to choose, without bias, how to live our lives?
were not our rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness violated?

? On UN/NGO
by tomboy inquestion: other than a "library card"...what are the advantages that an organization would have as an ngo with the un?
are there priviledges and/or protections offered by this membership?
surely, there are other reasons to obtain this status other than access to the un library--what would they be?

tomboy,
Let me add my warm welcome.
You know how the WTS madly rails against the US government (calling it part of the beast/claiming it's under the direct control of Satan), however, has no qualm about dishonorably running and enveloping herself in its constitution any time it feels the least bit threatened, or in order to further its religious/corporate agenda? I believe they're attempting to establish the same kind of love/hate relationship with the U.N. was to attempt to foster p.r. with the very organization they refer to as "the beast". One has only to look at what's going on in the more (generally speaking) educated developed world vs. the third world (where the UN is very active). WTS numbers are drying up, and they lose their chokehold on people's everyday lives where people have more access to education. They need fresh, naive blood, if they are going to keep growth up, without relinquishing too much power over individuals. The UN is a growing force, on the global scene, and fostering relations will at least make gaining and keeping access to thirdworld countries and countries that are less than favorable to religious freedom. In other words, they are trying to play both sides of the fence--kissing you know what of the very people they rail against. It's the best of both worlds (kind of like they attempted to do with the Nazi's)--they get to smell like roses to the unsuspecting gov'ts (who don't know or care enough about this org to look into what it teaches about them)--all the while milking their services and protection, while keeping the rank and file ignorant of these relations with the beasts, and continuing to perpetuate the belief that they're the most hated, persecuted people on earth and ergo god's only chosen people.
It's really quite vomitous and dishonorable for a group that sets itself out to be god's only representative on earth. Kind of makes one wonder about the god they represent.
Peace,

I think the point here is, that public pressure and adherants and ex-adherants to the catholic faith, shining light on dirty little secrets (and suing the shit out of a HUGE organization--cath church) produced results. I think a public apology is extremely important and cathartic--I speak from experience--even if it has to be most painfully extracted. I've never been a Catholic, much less an abused Catholic, but I have been an abused Jehovah's Witness. I see hope, when I look at how the Catholic church has been brought to the floor by a few little people. I also see it as a way for everybody to evolve and heal and find forgiveness--especially the perps. Public apologies are in order from the WTS, as well as massive reparations.
Then healing can begin. Then, they can possibly repair their relationship with their god, who calls them to justice for the damage done to children and innocent lives.
for Laree--I remember you,

well sad to say it was not revelations of sweeping reform or "new light" on caring for the flock.
the first day was primarily rehash of old stuff.

Tina,
Once again, you mirror my thoughts exactly! regarding the the policy of (not) dealing with child abuse. Not condemning a parent for turning in a fellow cult member for molesting or even allegedly molesting their child speaks volumes that they even have to word it that way, in the first place. Then, just take the law of the land (at least from where I sit): when you are in a public trust (and the society has PLACED THEMSELVES RIGHT THERE--in charge of everyone's life), you MUST REPORT SUSPECTED CHILD ABUSE. IT IS THE LAW. Not condemning a parent for turning in someone who's raped their child does not constitute in the remotest manner, protecting children.
They stand condemned by the law of the land, and before their god, to answer for the injustices that have been and will continue to be perpetrated against children and innocent souls. Until they answer, they will know no peace.Bridgette

Dear Wytchwomyn,
Welcome to the board. I am not familiar with Enochian Magick. But I agree that in all of my "spiritually alternative" studies, I have never run across Satan, demons, or any of the Christian pantheon of baddies. In fact, since I've left the kingdom hall, I hardly ever hear the name Satan anymore.
My e-mail is open, should you ever care to chat. I would love to know more of this Enochian Magick.
Blessings,

hmm, do I think the WTS would apologize?
ummmm.....thinking.....
no.
They are utterly devoid of humility, love, honor and compassion-or any of the other marks Jesus left for people to seek Him. Unless they would stand to profit from it in some way (and then, it would only be by FORCE) would they even half way apologize for the damage they have done to people. They in no way reflect ANY of the teachings or precepts taught by Jesus. Not one.

If the UN DID persecute the JWs..would you join in
by edward gentry inimagine this!
what a tempting thought.. the org, banned, witnesses hunted like rats thru the streets as they sneak around in their reverse coats and changeable hats carrying out the preaching work.
outside your house an incident, three neighbours are beating up on a witness, hitting him over the head with his own briefcase.. would you join in?

Edward Gentry,
I can get on board with them changing or dying out. They've done this many times (adapted to avoid dying out), and the more they do so, the more they mainstream--the org is a totally different animal than it was in the Rutherford days--don't you know JW's probably just cringe at the thought of the good ole' rutherford days? Can you imagine what they would do if told they needed to "advertise, advertise, advertise" with placards and sandwich boards today?
Part of their painful evolution is brought about by those of us who've left and expose dirty little secrets. Of that, I'm proud. But as for a full scale abolition of JW's--THEY WOULD LOVE THAT!! It would validate everything they've ever taught in their insane paranoid schema of the universe, of which, they are persecuted center of. Besides it goes against my beliefs. As a JW, I was taught to believe that anyone not of my beliefs was deserving of death, I've since evolved and believe everyone has the right to believe as they see fit (as long as they are doing no harm). Do you see the irony here? It's because I'm not a JW, that I'm so tolerant of the JW's in principal.
Now, keeping them honest, that's what I'm talking about.
Love,
Bridgette
