  silentlambs, I continue to applaud you. What you are doing is sooo important. After I left the jws and put myself through college, I worked as a social worker. Several clients were jws who were currently or had been through heinous sexual abuse. Although I had no knowledge of that going on when I was a jw myself, through my patients and talking to their elders, I saw how horrific abuse is perpetrated by a high control group and its dysfunctional power structure and rules. My heart goes out to anyone who went through that. I can't even imagine how horrible it must have been.

  To the critics (and I've had my share of my own critics when I've spoken out), I guess you are entitled to express your opinion. No one's stopping you. (Pointing out that you enjoy free speech just like those you criticize.)

  OTOH, I think you need to have your heads examined. Anyone who speaks out honestly and politely is doing no wrong and gives no cause for anyone to think they make ex-jws look crazy. If you are embarassed about that, you need to ask what it is inside of you that would make you be embarassed? That is definitely your issue, not the messenger's.

'In six months, we have learned to read Arabic and to actually go out and give presentations,' said Recina Ward, explaining that 30 to 40 members make monthly trips into Arab-American neighborhoods in the Detroit metro area."

  Of course, they are counting their time while they're in classes.

  since i am sort of late to the party this has probably been beaten to death and if it has just kick this thread to the curb.

  i was 11 years old in 1975 and i remember being scared silly the whole year.

  i mean there was so much hype about it and the tension in the air was so thick it was unreal.

  The March 8, 2005 Awake! clarifies all in an article entitled "How Much Longer Will It Be?" and under the subheading "6,000 Years Completed in 2024,"

  Fascinating. An ex-jw was just telling me this was a hoax, never written about in wts literature. Now it is. I think you've got a typo there though. 1914+120=2034, not 2024.

  Anyone know where we can view a scan of this fascinating article?

  my older sister, always a devout jw, or so we were led to believe......recently left home and went to live with her boyfriend!

  hubby and self are faders, fading very nicely so far.

  we went round for sunday dinner at my parents, who are devout jws and they had also invited my sister and her boyfriend.

  A possible way to get JWs info w/out incriminating oneself?

  i have an idea on how to get information in a way that won't get you identified ... i wanted to put it to this forum for scrutiny before i actually put it into practice.

  i am on several people's jw spam list.

  .meaning they constantly send me the same things that go around in other circles, like the "send this to five friends" or they send the scriptures for the week's book study, or they send a "jws in the news" article or something like that.

  I've never heard anyone from the platform or read any recent publication from the WTBTS saying that JWs can now vote.

  Leading double life

  i ran into a young jw i hadn't seen in probably 12 years, anyways, she was the presiding overseer's daughter, perfect little jw... she's now 25 yoa, she is still an active witness and in fact a sympathizer to their crap but dressed in a low cut top, belly showing, carrying a beer, trolling for guys out a hot spot on a friday night with a "worldly" friend.. she talked to me for 5 mins and told me she had been df'd for a year but how horrible it was, she is reinstated and doing good..... but everything about her looks said she wasn't a good little jw.. i think more and more hypocrites are being raised in the organization.

  i wouldn't be able to stand leading a double life, i would much rather be honest and not hiding who and what i am... but there are more young jws, including ones i would never suspect, that are jws by day, and regular people at night.

  i think they are falling into the "sunday morning christians" mentality and carrying tons of guilt around with them.. i just wish they would wake up.

  I cant say that I dont believe that most of its the truth, I have only a handfull of arguments.

  Don?t be surprised if your view on this changes with time. When I left (faded), I believed it was all ?the truth?, I just believed J?s people on earth had taken a very wrong turn and didn?t want to be associated with them even if it meant me dying. ?didn?t want to live forever or any length of time with people like that! Gradually over the years (18 and counting), I have come to realize it isn?t the truth.

  I also have a grandpa, in his 90's. I'm afraid I wont be able to go to his funeral. I guess I still could, but no-one would talk to me. I dont know, are you allowed to do that?

  Legally? Probably. Normally in the US, places are worship are considered public, and you are not prohibited from entering unless there?s a really good reason. Also, I believe legally, if his obituary was published in the newspaper and mentioned the services were public, you?d again have the right to enter.

  Yeah, that?s supposed to be how it goes, but we all know DFing is often done punitively rather than for correction. Quote from the elder?s handbook: ?If the wrongdoer is guilty of gross sin but gives evidence of godly repentance, even as recently as at the hearing, the judicial reproof given by the committee may suffice; disfellowshipping may not be necessary. (2 Tim. 4:1, 2; Titus 1:9; w83 1/1 pp. 30-1)?

  Cindy, why not just lie about running off and getting married in Vegas or something. As far as I know no one has ever requested a copy of a marriage certificate.

  Or you could create one on your computer. Just got married there myself. I could show you what it looks like so you can make one yourself.

  About ten years ago my brother in law died suddenly. We received "apostate" material in the mail after his obit was published...Anyway, I don't think sending stuff anonymously is cool. What's the matter, afraid you might know who they are?

  Ummm, whaaat? What in the world would the apostate hope to accomplish? Was your family dubs at the time? I don't get it. Details, please.

  Have to totally agree with you on the sending stuff anonymously point. I totally hate that. It's so passive-agressive.
