the single most significant problem i have with the jw doctrine, is that they claim that god chose them to be his earthly organization, to the exclusion of all others.

......and you know what else would be interesting to know? the proportion of FDS representing their ethnic/social/etc background. I always imagined God would choose a proportional representation to rule, as this makes sense to me. In actual fact, from what I understand, back in the 1930s, many people from the same families were ''chosen'' (I am beginning to think they were just of the same ''personality trait'' and got caught up in some religious frenzy).

How many Asians / Africans etc has Jehovah chosen? Will every nationality (on Earth) be represented in Heaven by 143,995 Americans?

how would you respond to the following quote.....i got this from a pro jw site.

i don't post on the site, just read.......i just wanted to know how you all would respond to this post.never let anyone cause you to doubt the organization...true there have been changes in the past in which the society readily admits to but the bottom line is that this is the channel jehovah has chosen...remember the vision of his chariot...those wheels could change any direction on a dime...it is our responsibility to move with that chariot and keep up otherwise we will be left behind with nothing better to do than finding fault with this precious organization!.

i would like to know more about the chariot wheels too....

Elder said I could Lie

last week my ex husband sent a letter to the elders telling each and every one of them just what he felt about them.

as they were d/f him he figured this was his last chance.

in his letter he stated that as i had scriptural reason for divoce, so did he.

That's a bit of an ambiguous statement. I think (maybe?) you're reading it as an invitation to lie - but he probably just means that no one knows the truth unless they are witness to it, so your word has to be taken.

... to try and attempt at getting through to an 70 year old elder?.

on rash impuls i wrote a letter to one elder.

a man who is most dear to me, even though my feelings towards the jw are negative at best.

This man sounds dear to you, and he clearly has a genuine interest in you too. Over the years, you say, he has been like a 2nd father to you, and has tried to guide you to the truth HE knows.

So, supposedly I have forced this man t look at some things, maybe cuz out his love for me he will investigate, just so he can convincce me

Your motivation for responding the way you have done is not to stumble him, but from the same love he's shown you. At the end of the day, he's an elder, and although you may be concerned because of his age (and I DO understand this), he must be ''compos mentis'' and have the ability to think for himself.

Welcome, Check_Your_Premises. I agree with you here - a lot of people think they are ''special'' in some sort of way, and I don't suppose the JW are any different, so claiming to be members of the FDS (could) just be a ''personality flaw''.

As to God manifesting himself - gosh, they'd be laughed at and (possibly) sectioned.....I mean what is the reaction to people who claim to see things (eg, UFOs and ghosts)?

And then there are rational people who have hallucinated but KNOW that's all it is (eg, due to sleep deprivation - which is quite bizarre). That person knows there is a logical explanation - but one of the above may see it as God KEEPING them awake to feed them visions!

WHY DO PRISONERS DISCOVER "RELIGION"?

why is it that a number of people who commit the most henious of crimes, suddenly become "born again christians"--usually while sitting on death row?

do they think this somehow absolves them of what they did?

i remember when karla fay tucker was interviewed shortly before her execution (in texas) a few years ago.

Now THERE'S a name I wouldn't like to try and say after a few beers, lol......

....same here it seems - Now we have the Yorkshire Ripper, but prior to him was Myra Hindley who professed to have found God / Jesus.

1 ) Guilt - perhaps some are genuine and feel remorse.

2) Fear - Now society has caught them and handed out its maximum penalty, there's only God's judgement left - with no benefit of a jury or being able to lie in Court!

3) Boredom - with limited activities available, and perhaps one of the few highlights now being the prison library, I imagine prisoners get more time to ponder.

4) Parole - by showing remorse, to hopefully get early release.

5) Influence - With only the same human contact daily, and therefore just common experiences, any 'outside' experience would ''over-arouse'' the inmate. ie, a visit from ANY religious organisation would break the mundane cycle of prison interaction.

Am not quite sure what order I would put these in though.

Mother in law told off for speaking to her daughter

my wife and i disassociated 3 months ago and my wifes mother is still a jw....but.....she still sees us regularly.

today, a 'clipboard' elder went down to see her.

he has been her book study overseer for a year and has never once gone to see her even though her husband is dying.

If shunning was stopped?????

Definitely - think of all the ''JWs'' who remain in order to keep their families OR who have worked hard to be reinstated JUST to be able to be accepted by their families....

On the other hand - if shunning was to stopped, think of all the disgruntled ''better than thou'' JWs who would have one little hobby taken away....lol

What are the WTS leaders planning?

what are the wts' long term (5+ years) and short term (up to 2 years) plans?.

the leaders know the end isn't right around the corner despite what they tell the r&f.

otherwise they would not have built patterson and purchased new presses.. the leaders are faced with mounting problems: declining statistics in developed countries, the internet, lawsuits, etc.

Just had two elders stop by

i just finished a visit with two elders.

i had actually contacted the head quarters and wanted to see how fast i can get a response from them.

i was impressed, from the time of my request to them in my house... two weeks.

I think what you've done is a good thing - especially considering how your words may be viewed (as a disfellowshipped person).

I, PERSONALLY (if 100% sure of the facts), would warn EVERY mother in the Congregation that those 2 Elders attend, because as a mother myself, I would want to know!!!
