as i complete my hubby's revelation study this evening, i came across a common witness fallacy.
the particular fallacy is called accent and is described here: http://www.infidels.org/library/modern/mathew/logic.html.
a classic example of accent is the witness interpretation of john 13:35, excusing thereby their neglect of neighbour:.
It seems Adam was happy to have a partner. I'd think his celebration is the point, not how long it took.
How would Adam know how long it took? Since we was (suppose) to live forever, he would have had no concept of time.
He probably did acknowledge gestation periods of the different animals but wouldn't have applied these frames of time to himself.
well, last night (thursday), from 8pm till midnight, sonic had a free root beer float for anyone who went.
we being my wife, her son and her mom.
we first drove over to a local sonic.
Hey Juni. We lived in North Carolina and Kentucky for several years. Had sonic just down the street. Poodle skirts, rollerskates the whole shabang. It's a southern thing.

I miss Sonic.
and to think, it'll be the day after my birthday!
my daughter is being induced as we speak.
wish her luck!
And a beautiful name as well. Congrats.
so i posted a while back about my marriage problems.... whole new gambit thrown into the mix.
i've had suspicions all along that something like this might be happening... but only just not confirmed that she's been cheating on me... with another jw that she works with!
she could have been more discreet about it rather than leave all the text messages on her phone.
Can she have a scriptural divorce if she was the offending party? As long as he remains single, then she cant remarry. Am I right on this?
I had a talk on this very subject. Yes she was the offending party but by her actions she ended the bonds of marriage. The local BOE might have different views on this but both are free to marry.
first of all i wanted to say that many of you have given some very good suggestions.
there is about 5 different things i'm making a point to do now that i wasn't thinking of before.
thanks a bunch!
Page 110 of the Flock Book states "Do not send an individual any kind of correspondence that directly accuses him of specific wrongdoing."
It also states: "If it is necessary to send a written invitation, you should simply state what the individual's course is alleged to have been, the time and place of the hearing, and how the person can contact the chairman if the arrangements are inconvenient for him.
My comments: This is to prevent the society or the BOE from being sued for libel.
just a thought.... does the 2nd baptism question, "do you understand that your dedication and baptism identify you as one of jehovahs witnesses in association with gods spirit-directed organization?
" enter the candidates into a legally binding contract?.
this is a verbal declaration to abide by the "corporation rules" (disfellowshipping etc) said infront of witnesses (no pun intended).. could it be that this is why this question was added?
While I am not a lawyer IMO that is the reason the question is posed in that manner.
It all comes down to semantics. The words are defined by, you guessed it, the WTS. If is is legally binding in their eyes then it is binding. The R & F are told that it is a personal dedication to God (legal) (let your yes mean yes). They are also told what to do if this personal decision is broken by failing to live up to that dedication or choosing to leave. These are issues that are kept within the guise of their religion and therefore cannot have any input from the secular courts. The separation of church and state (U.S. Law) allows this group from continuing their sham as they are prevented from interfering.
how many of us suffered in the jws from a lack of justice, love, or abuse of power by elders?
how did it make you question what you believed or had been duped into believing?
would be good to hear experiences so we can bounce ideas off each other on how it freed you from fear of authority or otherwise.
I stayed out of the limelight until my children were attacked by the elders. On one particular occasion my son was counseled on the style of clothes that he was wearing. Nothing unscriptural but "it might stumble someone".
Instead of standing with the elders and forcing my son to change clothes, I stood with my son and told the elders that it was none of their business. They then changed their story and said that "someone had complained" Of course they wouldn't say who it was. We ended the conversation until later.
Being scriptural myself I decided to apply the principle found in Matthew chapter 5 and search out who the person was whom my son injured. After several inquiries and finding none the elders again stopped me and told me that I wasn't allowed to search for the injuried party. I then told the elders that if I can't go to that person as Matthew Chapter 5 requires then that person should come to me per Chapter 18 and again the elders should stay out of it.
The wife and I were also told that we as parents we weren't using biblical (elder) methods in disciplining our children. Damn right! I'll use what works to the PROPER degree and not the burn and scorch method that they use.
Blood pressure is building up. Got to stop but these are a couple of the small things.
sent a letter to mom 4 days ago, came back today stamped "returned" on it... she wouldn't even open it... it had some nice comments in it too.
stupid blanking cult, blinds the eyes of folks so they won't even read what we have to say.
Send a postcard. It forces her to read it before she realizes who it's from.
