hey there Hamster:) your intentions are extremely good, and that counts for allot I believe. If you really want to make a difference go and do some voluntary work in India or Africa, there are plenty of really great projects. I suppose allot of people sponsore children to appease their consciences, so they don't have to feel guilty when those NGO adds come on the tele. But those donations do allot of good, so you need never feel guilty that you're not doing enough. frog

Sponsoring Kids
by hamsterbait ini sponsor a couple of kids in the third world.. how many do that?
i reckoned that i could easily give some of the money i spent on booze and do some good.. what bugs me is that i want to go and find the little ones and rescue them from their hell.
then when i see how many children are suffering i get all upset and want to drink again, because i can't see that me doing anything is any good.. maybe i should just get rid of the tv.... hb

e-foot in mouth, does anyone else have this problem??
by Frog inhey guys don't know about you but i got through these periods where i seriously put my foot in it via email, forums, txt messages etc.
in real life i'm quite diplomatic and have a knack for saying the right thing.
the sort of thing i'm talking about is replying to all in an email, rather than just replying to sender, and disseminating a whole bunch of information to people you never intended it for.

Hi Keegan, you've received some excellent advice here, I don't think there's much I can add to it. I think it's a very nice thing that you and your girlfriend want to be part of a community group, I'm sure there are probably several Christian oriented groups in your area that will provide you with what you are looking for, friendship, contribution to the community etc. On the contrary though if you ever did decide to take up with the JW's you would be cut off from the community you are a part of, and would be expected to associate only with JW's. You would find yourself having less and less in common with your family, and would be expected to keep them at an arms length. JW's also require not sex before marriage, so if you did become assoicated with them you would be expected to get married right away, or cease all intimacy. There are some good people inside the JW organisation, but if you ever decide that the JW life isn't for you, you will be cut off and thrown away.
All the best with your search. You will find what you are looking for, but just make sure you make a very informed decision before you become to heavily involved.

Babe, don't put up with this sort of crap from this guy. He's in a position of responsibilty and he's abusing his power. I used to put with this sort of crap all the time, came from being a naiive jw girl, taught to respect your elders, especially men. Don't put up with it. It's not worth rocking the boat too much, cause you've been there 6years you need good reference. Get out now before you get too fired up and want to slog him one in the balls frog

Just to prove that I have limited attention to detail, I just noticed the "viewed: __times" thingy on the headbar when you post a thread. How depressing, when you're thread has been accessed a hundred times and no-one responds! frog

Don't too much care for Tom Cruise's acting, or most of the movie's he leads in. I'm unfamiliar with the original version of this, and would probably like to see/read it first before subjecting myself to the butchered Speilberg version. The trailers really didn't grab me...having said that though, I could change my mind and go on cheap arse Tuesday when tickets are half price...

Thanks Jeaniebeanz, you reminded me that I had a big juicy red apple in my bag waiting to be munched:)
Thankyou for sharing your episode with us, I know it doesn't help you, but I found it highly amusing lol. Cravings are terrible things, and they sure do catch up with you if you can't appease them. I have been in that mental state after you've cleansed where your body doesn't crave all that fatty unnutricious crap, it's very empowering, but it's hard to hold on to.
Good luck with it JB, you will do well, we've all got confidence in you! Just keep slaying those dragons with apples frog

Some typical social engineering as you say. Bout the wallet thing, like yeah right you'd put that on your CV. I remember my older sister was being accused of breaking into a room in primary school, and vandalising it. When she was called to the Principals office, her only line of defense was "but I'm a Jehovah's Witness". The headmaster said, what's the got to do with it? I was a few years younger, and was quite dumbfounded that the principal wasn't aware of what pure and honest people we must have been in light of our affiliation with the "truth" LMAO!

Hey guys don't know about you but I got through these periods where I seriously put my foot in it via email, forums, txt messages etc. In real life I'm quite diplomatic and have a knack for saying the right thing. The sort of thing I'm talking about is replying to all in an email, rather than just replying to sender, and disseminating a whole bunch of information to people you never intended it for. I've done some beauties of those. Or, I think sometimes I get the courage to say certain things, nothing huge, that I would never say in person, you know little flirty things. I did this yesterday to someone I get along really well with through my work, now I just want to sink into the floor over it, even though it was no big thing. Yesterday must have been the day for it though. I'm on a yahoo group in relation to overseas voluntary work I did a little while ago. One of the girls in my care wasn't getting the medical treatment and care she needed when I was there. I left the project and it seems that things haven't improved greatly. I had heard this young girl had been moved to another children's home, and things had worsened. On the group email I asked for some more information on her, as I was quite concerned. I received quite a detailed response from one lady, with a lot of personal information about this girl. Forgetting that I was on a group, I semi-condemned her carers and asked what immediate action I could take. The initial response was directed at me and probably breached privacy anyway, so naturally I was lulled into a false sense of security. Now everyone in the group has heard the truth about what I thought of the carers and the situation going on there. Who knows this could do some good, but I wish ever so much it didn't have to come from me. There was also one other email trip-up I made yesterday, but won't bother you all with. God I must have absolutely no attention to detail! Doesn't happen all the time, but when it does it always comes in three's. I need to learn to keep my froggy trap shut-> frog
