OldSoul is Temporarily Offline
by jst2laws inoldsoul asked me to start a thread to let you know he will be offline for a short time.
he did not know if it would be a few days or a week or so.
he very much regrets this sudden absence considering he has made many friends in a short time and may have left a discussion or two in suspension.

Is the need to be in a religion a personality trait....................
by BLISSISIGNORANCE inlike the idea that alcoholics have a particular gene, certain mannerisms we inherit from parents or grand-parents, red hair is a recessive gene etc.
is religion inherited as a life style or emotional dependency?????????????????
is it low self-esteem and the need for others to decide what is right and wrong, how to live and even die???????.

Interesting question - i have often wondered the same.
I think, as already mentioned, you look around this crap world of depravity and think 'there has to be something better than this'.
I was brought up on a diet of church - it becomes part of who you are. It would be more interesting to ask people who werent brought up with any religion, who turned to it as adults.........Why? Why did they search for God?

What does death really mean? How can we reconcile death and eternal Hell
by JerichoForce inmy next posting due early next week will deal with supposed violence and judgement in the old testament as many in this forum have stated that they can't understand the issue of violence as they see a god of violence portrayed in the old testament and can't reconcile him with a god of love.
i will endeavour to address this issue in some detail...thank you and god bless... can i ask a couple of things please, you might be able to help me make some sense of this.
do you believe in hell as an everlasting place of torture?

just popped in again between work comitment. sorry Jericoforce i still havent had time to read everything you write - never seem to get that long on the computor and already have to share it, so you tend to get short sharp bites from me.
dont know if you tried towerwatch.com. ive just joined. not had much time there either, but it looks interesting.
English is not my first language, so reading all those words is also a very daunting task - i get baffled by the 2nd line of most scripts. something for anyone replying to my posts to bear in mind.
I grew up in the church. i know fully what they believe. i know all of their different doctrines. and i know many, particularly the catholics are very unscriptural (number one example, where is this place called purgatory mentioned in the bible?)
no amount of teaching will convince me of hell. a loving god could never send people to such a place of torment, however clear some may say the scriptures are. they have either been mistranslated, lost in translation, deliberately changed or the bible is not true. but no way can i accept the concept of hell as the churches interpret it. the jws have to be right on that one. if they arent, then atheists must be.
will pop by later.

Welcome to you
interesting to read of your experience. i too have a background of how warped things in a church can be. i dont have the jw experience, ive never been on, just had a study thats all.
youve come to the right place if you are looking for support. you will get plenty on here.
hope your time on the board is enjoyable and different life experiences of different people will help you to move forward in your own life.

The Only way to the Father.
by blabbermouth inby reading all the vulgar posts in this forum,it is evident to me that most of the members of this board are not christian.that is why blabbermouth is here.repent ye,for the kingdom of heaven is at hand, here is what you do.get on your knees and say a prayer similar to this,"lord jesus,i know i am a sinner, and invite you into my heart as saviour and lord.thank you,jesus-amen"after saying this prayer, use the king james bible alone, and let nobody stir you wrong.the only way to god is jesus christ(john 14:6)and just because some false teacher told you that there isn't a hell, don't be fooled.do you think that the rich man believed in hell?
(luke 16:19-31)may god richly bless your soul-blabbermouth(kayla)

well hello to you and welcome
Nothing like laying your cards on the table!!! having a blabbermouth may well get you in trouble on here, but it may also prove interesting.
Some of us do still believe what you preach........some of it anyway. yes i agree the way to Jehova is through Jesus and he alone is the way back to a relationship with god. i do not believe however, the teachings on hell as held by the church. i will never believe the teaching of everlasting torment. and if the bible is right and if the bible means hell as being a place of everlasting torment, then i would denounce anything to do with God. No how, no way, not ever, for any person, however bad bad bad, do they deserve everlasting torment. that is not justice.....it is sick.
bi for now

Yes. i am convinced they are right that hell means death and not everlasting torment. i spent along time being scared over that - much prefer the idea of dying to burning forever - although paradise earth has its pull!!
they did make the bible seem so much clearer - their interpretation of it seems far superior to the churches interpretation on many scriptures - and they dont have all the additional doctrine - praying to saints, praying to the virgin mary, pergatory etc etc.
i think many things in life leave us with something positive, even if we dont always see it at the time.

Both the Watchtower and "You Know" are wrong, wrong, WRONG!
by Schizm inwill people who die at armageddon really be finished forever?
yes, the scripture says that they will be "killed" but not thrown into the lake of fire.
but what about the scripture at revelation 17:8?
-
holly
Perhaps you've had more exposure to the Bible than what I realize
Hey Schizm
Ive had a life time of exposure from the bible, from being a child and being brought up in church. i gave it up about 7 years ago. went back a couple of years ago for a few weeks, but couldnt stomach the jumping up and down in the aisles, laying on of hands, speaking in tongues and being told i would go to hell if i didnt believe in the risen Christ. ive seen some pretty strange things in churches over the years - which they say is spiritual stuff - figured i wasnt spiritual enough and left.
studying with the jws i was taught many things the same and a few different things. i had an 18 months study, once a week, so leave you to work out my probable knowledge. oh and ive been to kh maybe 10 times. ive also known some bad jws who get up to stuff when no ones looking.
By 'am i saved' i wasnt talking about heaven. i just meant was i safe from destruction? i havent been baptised and according to the woman i studies with, that means im not 'safe'. but the bible doesnt say it is baptism that saves you. i thought jesus did that and baptism was an outward sign of confession of faith.
You still puzzle me a bit. you believe what the jws teach. you want to be active. but cant bec of their teaching on 1914. but you obviously think the rest is good enough to be there and the jws have got the truth. is that right? so the 1914 issue hasnt actually changed your views that they have the truth? only that they may be misguided over this point. same as i think they may be misguided over armageddon and who will actually survive, just by working out the justice of it. you see i worked out the church were wrong about hell myself, before i studied with the jws. at that time, i didnt know what jws believed about hell. because it says god is a god of justice. so much so, he executed his own judgement upon himself in sending jesus, the perfect man, to replace the imperfect adam. perfect logic. so a god that did that would condemn a human to overlasting torture for 70 years of wrongdoing ??- justice? i think not.so those scriptures about everlasting torture cannot posibly mean what they say unless the bible is absolute rubbish. i personaly dont think it is.
sorry i digress. i have to go to work.
so are you suggesting i resume study, but disbelieve the 1914 bit? actually, why do you think that is wrong? its still feasibly possible in terms of time scale. if jws believe some of the born again will still be on the earth when armageddon happens, it is still poss in terms of human age, that some are alive. but there will come a time, if it doesnt happen soon, they will have to come up with a diff theory.
