Anyone who does not trust firmly in Jehovah might think differently.
Isn't this wording some sort of fallacy or something. Like when they say, "Thinking people agree that .... blah blah blah".

just reading through the january 1st w.t 2006. the first study article (starting on page 20) "how firm is your trust in god?
" has another dig at higher education.. paragraph 7.
"anyone who does not trust firmly in jehovah might think differently.the majority of humans view material wealth as a major key to security.hence, parents have encouraged their offspring to invest much of their young adulthood in higher education, hoping that it will prepare them for well-paying careers.sadly some christian families have found the cost of such an investment to be very high, as their children have lost spiritual focus and turned to pursuing materialistic goals".

a few months back i remembered a newbie asked in this forum what would it take for a current witness to "go over the edge".
in other words what would it take, personally as a witness, to stop going to meetings or to just quit being a jw?
what would you have to learn or see?
WElcome to the forum NestleBoy ....
(just noticed it was his first post)

recent posts have encouraged us all to be more tolerant of others beliefs whether those are religious, atheist or anything in the middle.
fair enough.
still, that doesn't mean i'm going to go easy on all you believers, yes even you jw lurkers who are reading this.. .

would you discriminate against a person simply because he was a witness?
The sad thing is when able and bright young JWs start working for JW employers and never really learn how to get a job on their own.
My own brother - who had pretty much only ever worked for JWs - said to me the other day:
"Can you help me with a resume? Everyone seems to want one nowadays!"
My wife started busting up laughing. Hahah.
Reminds me of that line from Dumb & Dumber:
Lloyd: "There are a lot of jobs in this town, if you want to work 40 hours a week! "

our kids are used to listening to what they call "bible tapes" at night when they go to bed.
(my book of bible stories/death, and learn from great teacher cds) we haven't had too much objection to them for now until we can move from our current town to our new location - where we can do a full-on fade.. my question: we would like to start weaning them off the bible tapes now.
anyone have any good suggestions nighttime story cds they could listen to instead of the wt kids crapola?.

I don't want any loud obnoxious SpongeBob type stuff ... Instead, maybe even stuff with good moral (but not necessarily biblical) topics.
Any suggestions?

most of us in this world realise men can whoop their wives.
we have been used to the idea that men are heads in households.
men, when they want to, can use their biggerness, strenght, and power to overpower the woman.. just what if......the roles were reversed and the woman were more powerful than a man?.
We would end up with a world like this:

when i first came here a while back there was plenty of discussion around and about jw topics and general chit chat but of late i've felt quite a sharp increase in posts that are: .
1/ preaching aethism (as opposed to putting it forward in a respectful way as an alternate viewpoint.
2/ vitriolic attacks on those who dare have another view ('damn those stupid heretical believers') .
Well, I actually am quite interested in some of the atheist viewpoints. But, I must admit that it bothers me when I post a topic about how JWs butchered the bible, or how JWs are not truly Christian at all, and some of the atheists just start yelling "fundie" and how I'm ignorant and stuff. Or they just post that "religion is all a sham" and then run away. Or they end up hijacking the thread and it becomes a completely different thread than was intended.
It bothers me because - while I might not disagree with them - that is NOT the point of my post. Many times I ask JW specific posts relating to Christianity, or the deity of Christ, because I want to use the information to pull other JWs out. Instead, my post quite often gets pissed on by certain atheist JWD members. Now I often preface my posts with a disclaimer, like, "Atheists/Agnostics/Evolutionists please do not post on this thread."
There are some of you atheists on this board that already know I'm not talking about YOU - so I won't reiterate again.
Although I must say Qcmbr, I'm not much of a Mormon fan either.

this will be my first christmas.
i'm not doing anything corny, no tree, no bigass fluoro santa.
just joining my new (husband's) family at their xmas gig - tacky presents for the kids, lots of food, stories by the old folk.
FreedomLover and I were just talking about this today.
She never did Xmas and has no real attachment to it. I guess I remember it as some of the closest family times from my childhood.
I don't really hold a religious significance to it ... but I told her that me seeing OUR kids running towards a tree to open the gifts under it would get me pretty emotional. Really emotional.

my wife went to a meeting today and a funny thing happened.
the public speaker from out of town did not show up!
so instead of ad-libbing for an hour they just ended the meeting an hour early!
I used to love those meetings! Woohoo! We get out early!

blondie you prolly get tired of hearing this but thanks so much for your labor of love.
i dont get the mags anymore, but im glad to be able to keep up with what's being said in the wt through your weekly comments on the wt study.. i would think it might get tiresome to wade through the bs in the articles week after week.
im sure it takes a lot of your time to research, then type your post.
I ignored the WT Studies by Blondie for the first couple of months I was on JWD. I think mainly because at the time I was so intently focused on the things that bothered me - the awful NWT, 607, 1914, etc.
I started reading them after I became comfortable with the other stuff. Her studies just left me absolutely fuming by the end of WT Studies on Sunday. How could I have been so stupid ... heheheh.
It taught me to identify and eliminate JW buzzwords from the articles. Once I did that, I saw that what they were really saying was a whole lot of NOTHING.
Plus all the additional help and info and counsel she gave me as I started breaking stuff to FreedomLover always helped. Sometimes she just would send a PM out of the blue, saying "I was thinking of you and your wife ... hope all is well."
Thanks Blondie!
