So Plum, where were you at? Dungbeetle and Cello were looking for the apostafest and couldn't find anyone. She thought it was an apostaBUST! I couldn't go, because my daughter was just out of the hospital after being ill with viral meningitis. These pictures don't look the the Alpine Village Restaurant. Is this outside, somewhere else?

"silent lambs" speak out: child abuse alleged within jehovah's witnesses
downey -- two local women from a group calling themselves the "silent lambs" made a symbolic gesture monday, hanging a stuffed lamb doll on the door of the kingdom hall in downey; a move meant to protest alleged cases of child abuse within the jehovah's witnesses religious order.
Hi, I just want to make it clear to those of you who have read this article that the reporter didn't get some of the facts as we told them to him. We did talk about the 23,720 on a database at WT Headquarters. We did not say that that figure only included elders. That was the reporter's assumption. As for the 5,000 that have come forward claiming to be abused by elders, that again was an assumption that the reporter made. Although we did talk about the mistakes that elders have made in handling these cases, the reporter misunderstood and took it to mean that only elders were involved as child molesters, when in fact the molestations have been done by elders, MS's or other rank and file members of the WT . I will let them know of their errors, but I do appreciate that they did come out and took the story.

Sorry TTboy, I copied this verbatim from this newspaper; they don't have a website yet as they are just new. They plan to have a website sometime in the future.

the Downey PATRIOT " Silent Lambs" speak out: Child abuse alleged within Jehovah's Witnesses D owney -- Two local women from a group calling themselves the "Silent Lambs" made a symbolic gesture Monday, hanging a stuffed lamb doll on the door of the Kingdom Hall in Downey; a move meant to protest alleged cases of child abuse within the Jehovah's Witnesses religious order. The same scene was also played out in several major cities throughout the nation as the group prepares for a peaceful march at the Jehovah's Witnesses Governing Body Headquarters in Brooklyn, NY on September 27. "More than 5,000 adults have come forward claiming they were abused by the elders," says Cynthia Hampton, a former Jehovah's Witness of 8 years and current Downey resident. "And victims are afraid to come forward because of threats of excommunication." June Cook, the second lady participating in the gesture, was featured on the investigative television show Dateline, during an episode in which they examined the accusations. "There are children out there being raped and by Jehovah Witness law there have to be two witnesses to every sin," Cook exclaims. "And how often is there an eye-witness to a child rape?" In a statement released to the media, J.R. Brown, the Head of the Public Relations Department for Jehovah's Witnesses, states, "Our Governing Body is willing to resolve differences of opinion within the framework of the congregation and according to scriptural principles." The Jehovah's Witnesses website also proclaims that any elder found to be involved in any child molestation activity would be denounced, a declaration that the women call a lie. "The Watchtower has a database of 23,720 accused elders that they will not turn over to the police," Cook says. "We want them to turn it over." Following the placement of the lamb at the Kingdom Hall, located on the 12100 block of Woodruff Avenue, an unidentified representative from the Jehovah Witnesses confronted the ladies, defending the religious staple. "Child molestation is a social problem not scriptural," the man, who declined to give his name, stated. "Everybody is suffering from this (problem) not just us. You take it to the police. It's up to them." When asked about the supposed database, the man replied, "I don't believe that. That's not true." Messages left at the Kingdom Hall by the Downey Patriot were not returned.

Dungbeetle and I are announcing our going to a Southbay Kingdom Hall (in Los Angeles County) on Sunday, September 22, 2002 at 12:00 p.m. (noon). I have faxed the following information to City News Service. Hopefully they will pick this up. This is the press release we obtained from Bill Bowen earlier and I have re-written it for Sunday's event. The actual fax to the news service has all the vital information, I have omitted those details for purposes of this post, since this is a public forum. Those of you attending the apostafest that day are welcome to attend. Please email me for directions to the KH.
If anyone from here would like to participate, please email me privately, and I will email you the exact address of the Kingdom Hall we will be at.

This is a continuation of the first public event ever for child rape victims of Jehovahs Witnesses. According to William H. This will be a public statement that leadership for Jehovah s Witnesses (Governing Body) must stop hurting children. Silentlambs is formerly requesting the church to establish a tribunal to prosecute the Governing Body for their crimes against children.
hi guys:.
i need some info?
in the proclaimer book on page 219, does it say that the dubs call themselves the "visible christ on earth" ???
Here is the answer, compliments of Dungbeetle:
How, then, were current appointments to service in the congregations to be made? The Watchtower analysis of theocratic organization showed from the Scriptures that Jehovah appointed Jesus Christ "head of the . . . congregation"; that when Christ as the Master returned, he would entrust his "faithful and discreet slave" with responsibility "over all his belongings"; that this faithful and discreet slave was made up of all those on earth whohad been anointed with holy spirit to be joint heirs with Christ and who were unitedly serving under his direction; and that Christ would use that slave class as his agency in providing needed oversight for the congregations. (Col. 1:18; Matt. 24:45-47; 28:18) It would be the duty of the slave class to apply prayerfully the instructions clearly stated in God's inspired Word, using it to determine who qualified for positions of service. Since the visible agency that would be used by Christ is the faithful and discreet slave (and the facts of modern-day history already considered show that this "slave" employs the Watch Tower Society as a legal instrument), The Watchtower explained that theocratic procedure would require that appointments of service be made through this agency. Even as the congregations in the first century recognized the governing body in Jerusalem, so today the congregations would not prosper spiritually without central supervision.
this is probably going to be the most difficult thing i have ever written.
but, since i dont plan on being around [here] much longer, what the hell?
for some time now, we have discussed and expressed our outrage and horror at child molestation.
Dakota,
I understand some of what you are feeling. My husband who never was a JW, was also molested, not by his parents, but by one of his father's brothers. He carried this pain for many years until finally admitting it to his parents when he was 21. The abuse took place between the ages of 11 and 15.
The awful thing about it all is that his parents continued to allow this pedophile to visit their home even though they knew he molested their own son! I cannot fathom how insensitive they are! There would be no way in the world that I would ever allow anybody who molested my child into my home. Their stupid excuse was that "it happened so long ago" and to just forget it.
Well I'm sorry, I wasn't there, but I can't forget it! My husband has been through hell and back dealing with the guilt and shame of having been molested. He had confessed to me that at one time he thought he had brought it on himself! The thing is too, even though they were never JW's, another one of the uncles is a Methodist minister too, and so they look like a very normal Christian family. The secret of being molested has been in the closet for years. And my husband is still very embarassed about it, as if he did something wrong.
This is another reason why this SilentLambs thing hits home so hard for me. I'm married to a sexual abuse survivor.
