this is a big tradition for many in the hispanic culture.
but how can a witness have or pay for one of these?

I am of Mexican descent and when I was a JW, no one would have ever thought of having a quinceanera! But I imagine, as more and more people of Mexican/Hispanic culture join the JW's, that they will want to keep this "tradition". However, I can see the elders, and other circuit/district overseers coming down on this "worldly" practice and forbidding it.

most of the "real life ex's" that i have met don't want anything to do with other ex's.
these are people who don't like ex-dub boards.
in fact they don't have much time for other ex's, full stop.
I think that a lot of Ex JW's still have anxieties about being with other Ex JW's. When we were still in the organization, we heard nothing but bad things about the DF'd, the DA'd etc....Somehow I think it carries over into their life after the WT.
Then there is a 2nd type of Ex JW, that I call the "angry Ex JW". I've seen them full of hatred and they are totally maladjusted as people. They want nothing to do with Ex JW's and accuse people like us of not "moving on" and living in the past.
The 3rd type of Ex JW (the fade aways) doesn't want to be seen with other Ex JW's because they are in hiding because of their JW families. They are so afraid that if their families saw them associating with other Ex's that they would lose their families.
But seriously, I think it's very good for Ex's to get together with other Ex JW's and whether they are commiserating about the past or just laughing about it, that can be a very healing thing.

I don't watch much football. The only reason I turned on the Superbowl was to watch the halftime show with Paul McCartney. I LOVE Paul McCartney, and have loved him since I was 8 years old. All of us little girls were in love with Paul in 1964.
in all the years i went door to door as a jw, i never once had a study who went all the way to baptism.
in the thirty years i've know my wife -- who has been a jw all this time -- she has never made a single convert from going door to door either.
is this true of others on this forum?
When I was a teenaged "pioneer", one of the elders wives brought to me another student (a couple years younger than me at the time) from my high school who had family in the JW's. They asked me to "study" with her. She got baptized, and I left the WT a few years later. Several years after I left the WT organization, I had found out that she had been in a very abusive marriage and had a daughter. But sadly, she passed away very young leaving her daughter in the hand of this abusive husband. I believe she had some kind of cancer or a brain tumor. It was quite sad when I heard about it. She would have been the one person that I would have tried to get out, as my family would not listen to me. So no, I never "converted" anyone by finding someone door to door. Only this poor young girl, rest her soul.

Well I feel now that since I was a JW teen pre-1975, I never got to really be a normal teenager. We were too busy preparing for the "end". My mother was very strict, I never got to go to the prom because it was for "worldly" kids. I managed to graduate from high school a year early, in 1973 instead of 1974. I wanted to "pioneer" before the "end" came. Puke!
Now I have a 17 year old son who is a senior in high school. He doesn NOT want to go to the prom and I'm trying to get him to go. I want prom pictures!

i guy i occasionally work with got sent to iraq for this last war.
he has been there nearly a year.
he just came back, and had this interesting and good story.. while he was there, after the major fighting was over, he and his unit built 3 complete schools for the local iraqi children.
I saw actor Gary Sinese on Hannity & Colmes on Thursday talking about an organization he is involved with called "Operation Iraqi Children". You can find information on the website at:

So some of the news is good and I applaud people like Gary Sinese who is taking it upon himself to do something POSITIVE and go out and start doing things like this.

today, i just received diane wilson's book, "awakening of a jehovah's witness".
i cracked it open tonight and in reading the first page, found something that makes me question her authenticity.
she states, "in my 22 years as one of jehovah's witnesses, i had attained the position of "traveling overseer" both in the united states and brazil.
I know Diane Wilson personally, and I have a copy of her book. I can vouch for Diane and I know that she is authentic; every word in her book is true.
What you are reading there on page 9 is an "endorsement" by Don Nelson. Don Nelson used to be a "traveling overseer". By the way, I know Don Nelson too, he's a personal friend of mine. We are all "California folk".
