Thanks for all your posts on this, its been interesting to see so many differing and intelligent viewpoints; like the previous poster suggested, the matter is one left open for considerable debate, just as our definition of God is.

Evolution & Creation... can they co-exist as theories?
by diamondblue1974 ini am not a scientist so i do bow to others superior knowledge on this site regarding these subjects (and welcome their input) but what is to stop these two theories both being proven so that they both apply to our origins.. what is to stop a creator creating evolution as a process just as a creator would create the laws of physics etc?
it would be akin to starting the ball rolling in creation terms and letting it carry on until the highest lifeform is present.
could scientific theory support this view perhaps?.

i was not sure if i had understood correctly so, i brought it up to my bible study conductor maggie, i was appalled that she agreed with this veiw, we debated it back and forth, until i got the upper hand, then she told me that i was to "rebellious and strong willed", and that i "should never get married", that i way i would not have to submit to male "headshit" "headship".

My JW brother is dating

a few months ago my jw father and stepmother took me and my kids to a movie (rated g...lol).
anyway my grown jw brother who still lives with them called on their cell phone and he was planning on his "friend" coming over.

my life growing up as a JW

WT banned music
by truth_about_the_truth init's been a while since the society has been specific about what kind of music to avoid hasn't it?.
the last i remember was when the said to stay away from rap and heavy metal.
that was a while ago.

by Jez induring talks, the audience just don't think.
the speaker can shoot off some stat, a comment, but "where is the evidence for what you just said?".
the speaker can give a really great story about how a drug addict became a jw, how it saved his life, but do they think: "yes, that is one neg example in the world, but what about the positive examples?

Every time I got disfellowshipped I bought Metallica, Gun n Roses Use Your Illusion 1 & 2
My sorta music...excellent choice, in fact i remember bring home appetite for destruction when i was about 15 and my mum went mad, so i hid it and waited for her to go out and brought it back in again.
She didnt much object to Metallica even though I was quite the avid fan (and still am), she said they were a bit loud but didnt view them as demonic...I think it was because she liked 'Fade to Black' on the Master of Puppets album personally. I always won the arguments about debased music when I was younger, perhaps it was because I was brought up on Led Zeppelin, Grateful Dead and Bob Dylan, she didnt have much ground to argue on really lol

by hillary_step ina hundred years ago or so, when women did not all look the same and screech like ancient hinges, and strip malls were just a nightmare in a squirrels mind, i wrote a jazz column for a newspaper.
it did not last long as i was eaten up by the wt and became a regular pioneer with an irregular notion and a pile of scruffy s8's.. .
i well remember one issue in which i took great exception to a comment made by duke ellington which seemed to me to be far to general and subjective to make much sense.

Personally i find music that moves me is the best kind of music and bad music plainly annoys me, but as to how good or bad music are defined i think it is upto the individual.

Evil SMURFS?
by marked inokay, what's the deal with the smurfs?
i've heard mention here and there about some 80s rumours regarding demonized smurfs (or something) that got jws in a panic.
i remember when i was a kid my aunt telling my mother about smurf dolls with blood on them walking around, i think.

its not only the smurfs which were victimised by the WTS, there were plenty other programmes on tv which got the thumbs down in the UK, such as The Moomins, Rentaghost, Ghostbusters, Gremlins.
It isnt fun being a JW...kids cant have fun...they must instead act out
bibledub stories which are just as twisted as some of the stuff on TV.... -

by diamondblue1974 ini was reading the thread about the prospect of the wts releasing some new light shite about a prophecy to fulfil the fact that they are not growing and it brought back a really horrid memory, unintentional i know but horrid nonetheless.. the co visited the congregation were i was from and after the obligatory song and prayer, it was announced that the co needed to speak to us urgently on a local needs issue.
he came onto the platform his look was sombre and melancholy (nothing new there then).
he said he had an announcement from the governing body and that their had been a law passed that day which banned jw's in the uk that the usa and other world governments had notified the wts that they were to follow suit shortly.
