  Do you think that "JW's" will get rid of the "Paradise earth" doctrine?

  with all of the changes regarding the 1935 closing of the heavenly calling that jw's taught for over 70 years what will be the next thing to go in their doctrinal system.

  will they one day say"we were wrong the earth is going to burn up and all christians will go to heaven".

  russell was right after all and yes the "great crowd" will indeed go to heaven.nothing suprises me anymore with the jw's.

  Every magazine and every book they publish contains a picture of 'paradise' - it is usually among the very first paragraphs used to 'hook' it's victims. It keeps the earth - something they can touch and smell every day - part and parcel with 'true worship'. It is the medium that they have selected to paint thier doctrinal canvas.

  Indeed, its already been said that its the main carrot they use to get members biting; its quite a powerful tool to be honest - like above its easier to believe in something intangible when you have something you can visualise or touch. They would be committing commercial suicide if they dropped this doctrine.

  Can a person be mad at "Jehovah and Jesus" and not be committing Blasphemy?

  i was always taught as a little child that to be mad at jehovah and jesus was like commiting blaspemy.

  so i held all my anger up until now that i am out of the wts and out of christianity(churches) and i am just furious at jehovah and jesus.

  i think they play many games with people that worship them.

  Who dreamt up the word 'Blasphemy' anyway?

  Personally I think if Jehovah is supposed to be such a supreme deity and worthy of such worship and veneration he is also worthy of criticism for the complete balls up hes made so far...hes gotta take the rough with the smooth in my view. Anything else would just be an indication of a benign dictatorship!

  Plumbers in the US have to take 4 to 5 years of full-time schooling and training to qualify as a licensed plumber. Training is through the unions here. I would have no problem with one of my children choosing a trade like plumbing or electrician...they make good money, more than some with university degrees. I take it less schooling and training is required in the UK to be a licensed plumber

  It takes roughly the same time in the UK, maybe a bit shorter. They do make good money too, more than I do - thats when they turn up to do the work that is*!

  * Slight dig about British plumbers which any brit will probably be able to concur with!

  What utter shite, I am sorry but they suggest that through prayer his relationship with his father improved; course it would, he has a decent father who just learned to accept his sons decisions no matter what he felt about them personally and he gave up in the end. It was nothing to do with prayer or how much crap he read in the watchtower publications.

  Perhaps this isnt normal in the JW land because usually when a son or daughter goes against their fathers/parents wishes this results in being ostracised and shunned - what fine example that father has shown the watchtower society and their members!

  Accept your childrens choices and dont judge them for it - what a novel concept!

  If you had to, what religion would you choose to be?

  you can answer this as seriously (lt) or as inanely (buttlight) as you like!

  i was reflecting having read someone's thread about blowing off non jw family that actually it would have been so much better if i had a larger family, preferably not completely jw saturated and this random train of thought led me to thinking that if i could choose i would be catholic, because then i would have a huge family, go to really nice gothic churches with lots of candles and tortured saints and be able to go to confession (instead of lt's mobile).

  also the colours of the whore of babylon always were a lot more enticing to me than the mild blues and undistracting beiges of the khs.. i think we all have religions which would suit our personalities so much better.

  Screw religion...I hate religion with a passion - who has the right to say how, when and where you should worship?

  I choose spirituality over religion any day and there is a considerable difference between the two.

  JWs claim disfellowshipping is biblical!

  regarding disfellowshipping the jws claim it is a policy necessary to keep their organisation spiritually and morally clean so that they won't lose the grace of the holy spirit and run further risks with dangerous influences.

  they even say if the disfellowshipped want they can always repent and will be gladly reaccepted into communion with jw brotherhood so it's up to them to remove any anguishing shunning.

  though this may appear to be a reasonable belief it is not quite as straight forward as it seems.

  Christians are taught that Jesus was the kind of man that would embrace people who were sinners; we were taught that he was loving and kind and given that Christianity fundamentally displays Christ as an example it would be incredulous to think that Jesus would condone turning your back on your loved ones just because they appear to be straying off the straight and narrow. Surely if you were genuine, this would be the time to spend more time with that person in the hope that they would return to better behaviours.

  Wasnt disfellowshipping the brainchild of Paul? Wasnt Paul a lawyer? Is it coincidental that he appears to be more dogmatic and rule based?!

  Regardless, the witnesses use the appropriate scriptures to their own ends and twist the words to suit their agenda - that agenda is to silence critics, free thinkers and independent people. Disfellowshipping in the true witness sense is not biblical in the slightest.

  This is a blast from the past actually - I do remember something similar to this.

  I look back now and it seems to be quite a poignant moment when on one occasion nobody put their hands up to answer, and, the elder on the platform almost spits... 'come on... the answers in the paragraph'. LOL

  The image in Daniels dream...what does it mean now?

  i am new here, so i know i missed this being discussed in earlier threads......anyway i remember how prominently the image in daniels dream was being portrayed in public talks and books...especially when russia was a world power.

  since the breakup of that country, what is the new explanation for the 'gog of magag'.

  also the feet of the image that was of part clay and stone or something like that, symbolized unrest by democratically ruled nations.

  Trouble in Paradise??

  i was having a look at the accounts of three local congs as i had heard a bit about the borg beginning to run low on cash as donations are falling.

  locally, i was very surprised to see the cash flow problems of these congregations.

  i had a look at other areas and saw that there were a minority making a small 'profit', a lot breaking even when it comes to contributions and a fair amount that are losing the plot financially.. congregation 1. accounts for 2005/06 income was short 19,000, yes, their expenditure was that much over their income.. congregation 2. accounts for 2005/06 income was short 11,000.. congregation3.

  DB1974 - I don't know whether payments to the WTBTS would be included in the accounts. If they are not included then that would be a bit strange.....maybe.

  From memory they usually are- they were always mentioned in the accounts servants report when I was a dub.
