As I understood it JWs celebrate (I use the term 'celebrate' loosely) the memorial of Christs death on Nisan 14. This year Nisan 14 fell on Monday 25th March 2013 and not Tuesday 26th March 2013 (which was the day of their memorial). All of my Jewish friends were celebrating their Passover meal on Monday 25th - is this another one of those moments where the Borg has it right and the whole of the Jewish population of the UK (including learned Rabbi) has it wrong? What is the rationale behind them being a day late? Just asking for your views?

by faundy injust to let everyone on here who knows my dad, that he is seriously ill, and unfortunately on life support.
he has renal and respiratory failure as a result of the quickest onset of pneumonia i have ever seen... it came on in the early hours of this morning.
he is waiting for an intensive care bed but the nearest one is 200 miles away.

How did you handle facing the reality of death?
by song19 infor those raised or who got the truth at a young age, how have you been able to handle the reality that you are in fact, eventually, going to die in this system?.
for me, this was a real hard reality check.
as a witness, my entire life i was convinced that i would see armageddon, that i wouldnt grow old and die.

Yes this is difficult to come to terms with but it was my spirituality that allowed me to finally get my head round it properly.
Taking a look at everything round us, everything moves in cycles, moon cycles, earth cycles, the seasons, years, and days but fundamentally life, death and rebirth are the essential cycles we have to get used to.
As night turns to day, life, death and rebirth are synonymous when we realise this, everything is put into perspective. I find it helps the grieving process.
JWs do not grieve properly!

Is being searched by your employer EVERY day legal?
by Gill ini am in the middle of induction training for a new job at a local store that is one of the uk's largest hardware stores.. today we were told it was company policy that every staff member is searched everyday before they leave the shop.
you cannot, under any circumstances leave the store until you have been searched both your bag and person and sometimes you car also searched.. your handbag has to be emptied and searched, your pockets have to be emptied and you have to take off whatever clothes you are told to take off including shoes, roll up your shirt above waist level if you are a woman and loosen the waist band of your trousers.. if i am right, even the police are not permitted to search anyone without due cause and i already feel 'violated' at the thought that i will have to go through this humiliation everyday.
this shop basically sells toiletries, garden stuff etc and insist that half of their theft if from staff.. however, we were also told that shoplifters cannot be stopped unless they have been followed all round the store and their is 100% knowledge that they have stolen something as a stop and search would get the store into terrible trouble.. so, am i correct in thinking that these people are going to violate my human rights every day!.

Sorry I have only come across this thread quite late on but I can provide you with a brief synopsis of the law relating to UK Employment and an employers ability to search employees.
There is no absolute right to privacy under UK law although the issue of searching employees is not without its pitfalls for the employer. Firstly a fundamental part of a contract of employment is the relationship of trust and confidence (Safeway Stores v Morrow). To search in this way continuously demonstrates that they do not trust you on a continual basis and so therefore would be better off searching members of staff randomly to avoid claims of breach of contract/wrongful dismissal.
Another contractual issue is that of confidentiality, are the contents of the search disclosed elsewhere? Are the results of the search kept confidential and who has access to this information? If the results of the search are unreasonably disclosed then the employee could claim breach of contract/wrongful dismissal.
Beyond this, the way in which a member of staff is searched is also of concern - if a female member of staff is searched by a man then theres the potential for their to a considerable loss of dignity and potential for a discrimination claim. Why should a woman subject herself to an intimate search (baring flesh) by a man?
How the search is carried out is relevant primarily because if it isnt done sensitively it could be classed as assault and the employer could be liable both criminally and within the civil context.
There are human rights issues but against a private employer there is no free standing claim available for breaches of the Human Rights Act 1998 (the Act governs the relationship between the state and public).
Hope that helps.

Cross is a pagan symbol, watchtower is a pagan symbol too
by Noelle inyou all jehovah witnesses that said jesus didn't die on a cross but on a stake your wrong because the romans were pagans and what better way to crucify someone than on a pagan symbol.
i have a fact that you need to listen to as well, the watchtower which you symbolize is a pagan symbol as well.
oh no how can that be you ask, well let me tell you.. in ceremonial magic and some traditions of wicca and neopaganism, the four cardinal points are believed to have spiritual guardians called watchtowers.

My professors didn't allow us to use Wikipoedia as sources for our papers because it changes all the time and is written by anyone, like students whose internet class assignments are to research a topic and post it there. I don't trust Wiki.
Exactly - but in non academic work you would at least be polite (and somewhat honest) enought to cite a source no matter how unreliable it might well be! I initially thought it was an oversight on her part but given her absence I somehow think differently. Gary

Yes you have researched well, yet many here are not Jehovah's Witnesses but have left and are coming to terms with life as it is now. If anyone wants to start preaching at us telling us that we are wrong, then they should really bear in mind the make up of the people on this site.
I think she mistakenly thought we were pro JWs LOL!
Not only did she not research the site well enough she didnt research her material well at all though - she just cut and pasted from Wiki and didnt cite it - bit dishonest if you ask me!

I have seen quite a "few" JWs with WT symbols on them... so I don't think its that isolated. I posted the comments hoping Renaia will respond... this is a Renaia thread after all, isn't it?
LOL I had no idea they were that popular - I wouldntve been seen dead with one of those even when I was heavily indoctrinated. I cant help but think that most of these sorts of things are like an expression of identity for people who sincerely lack it, primarily because their own identity has become irrelevant and meaningless in the face of the god that is the watchtower.

Adding to Magick's post... here are some comments from the website that offers the pins that Magick posted:
Admittedly though, these are the actions of a few nutjob JWs who clearly have gone over the top - however that being said, it does give some indication as to how the society is reverred whether it is shown openly or whether it is kept behind closed doors!
