Another of my all time favourites...
The God that failed.
Pride you took
Pride you feel
Pride that you felt when you'd kneel
Not the word
Not the love
Not what you thought from above
It feeds
It grows
It clouds all that you will know
Deceit
Deceive
Decide just what you believe
I see faith in your eyes
Never you hear the discouraging lies
I hear faith in your cries
Broken is the promise, betrayal
The healing hand held back by the deepened nail
Follow the god that failed
Find your peace
Find your say
Find the smooth road on your way
Trust you gave
A child to save
Left you cold and him in grave
It feeds
It grows
It clouds all that you will know
Deceit
Deceive
Decide just what you believe
I see faith in your eyes
Never you hear the discouraging lies
I hear faith in your cries
Broken is the promise, betrayal
The healing hand held back by the deepened nail
Follow the god that failed
I see faith in your eyes
Broken is the promise, betrayal

Just can't get this out of my head
by jt stumbler inbeing recently self-dissassociated, i cannot get out of my head something that happened to me more than 20 years ago.
having studied much in my youth, and being the submarine witness that i was, i married at 19 and began my "worldly coarse".
i just knew it was the "truth".

Hey all...I forgot about the whole 'don't pray out loud because Satan hears you' line of (un)reasoning. Can you all say 'how to cover your ass' with me? If your prayer doesn't work or somehow something happens that is the opposite of what you wanted then it can always be blamed upon Beelzebub in a pinch. How convenient. Its the same thing as having a fairly smooth life could be interpreted both ways, Jehovah was either blessing your integrity or you had to wonder about your spiritual commitment if things were going smoothly. AUGH!!!
I forgot about this...and how right you are.
There was another cliche...if you pray for something and you get it then your are blessed but if you dont then you must be doing something wrong...another WTS tactic to reinforce guilt and obligation.

Thats a very thought provoking post actually...
I am sure thats almost a slant on what the WTS would like you to believe ...in other words they would equate it to biblical times when they would expect you to follow the leader of the day irrespective as to how wrong they are or were.
Gives them license to foul things up without question doesnt it?

How do you think you will handle your own death? . . . . . [language alert]
by nicolaou ini know it's not the lightest of topics but the current news coverage of the pope's final hours made me wonder if i'd face things as calmly as he is reported to be doing.
i don't have his faith, or any faith anymore, but i can see how for a true believer that would be a source of strength.. the thing is, a lot of us thought we'd never die.
do you really comprehend what a truly massive mind-fuck that is?

I think mortality is something us humans find very difficult to comprehend and I believe religion and in particular the WTS prey on this uncertainty; they replace uncertainty with a belief system which destroys all natural inclination when it comes to life and people view the world with very short term eyes because of it.
Dangerous indeed...DB

Personal "God" and self-representation
by Narkissos init is commonly assumed that monotheism, in its jewish, christian and moslem forms, resulted in (or was related to) a specific development of human self-representation.
before a unique creator and judge the individual had to stand as an indivisible unit (e.g.
the "soul" in the middle ages) which was either justified or condemned, either saved or lost.

As I am mercifully free from the ravages of such intelligent conversation I am off to the adult & heated debate section for some light hearted banter.
*scratches head in a confused manner*

Yes I know its a music thread and it might get posted elsewhere....but what are your favourite lyrics from the JW proverbial list of banned music...one of mine personally is the following:-
These are the days of the open hand
They will not be the last
Look around now
These are the days of the beggars and the choosers
This is the year of the hungry man
Whose place is in the past
Hand in hand with ignorance
And legitimate excuses
The rich declare themselves poor
And most of us are not sure
If we have too much
But we'll take our chances
'Cause God's stopped keeping score
I guess somewhere along the way
He must have let us all out to play
Turned his back and all God's children
Crept out the back door
And it's hard to love, there's so much to hate
Hanging on to hope
When there is no hope to speak of
And the wounded skies above say it's much too much too late
Well maybe we should all be praying for time
These are the days of the empty hand
Oh you hold on to what you can
And charity is a coat you wear twice a year
This is the year of the guilty man
Your television takes a stand
And you find that what was over there is over here
So you scream from behind your door
Say what's mine is mine and not yours
I may have too much but I'll take my chances
'Cause God's stopped keeping score
And you cling to the things they sold you
Did you cover your eyes when they told you
That he can't come back
'Cause he has no children to come back for
It's hard to love there's so much to hate
Hanging on to hope when there is no hope to speak of
And the wounded skies above say it's much too late
So maybe we should all be praying for time
