Here too. I gave blood on April 12th for the first time. And I wore my "Blood Donor" sticker to the memorial where I partook and crossed myself. I had the blood bank take pictures and they're putting me on their website too. good for you!

I just gave blood and I feel great!
by hallelujah inin australia we have only voluntary blood donations.
it's quite amazing really that people regularly take at least half an hour out of their lives to give blood.
so i joined them.

Are there still things that were witness no-no's that you refrain from?
by AK - Jeff infor me, after decades as a witness there are quite a few i suppose.
this thread was inspired by min's thread about sex and our attitudes now as opposed to when we were witnesses.. one thing that i have never done - and it might seem somewhat trivial to many - i have never, not once, in my entire life uttered the f word.
i always found it to be utterly vulgar - and i still do.

I haven't taken drugs or killed anyone. Haven't joined the armed forces - just because I don't want to be told what to do. That's about it. No honey, if there was a JW rule I went out of my way to break it! Gave blood and everything. I can't wait to vote in November! It's the last on my list.

I've having a hard time dealing with the present time in my life
by Undecided ini don't have any problems that i am dealing with but i can't seem to enjoy the present.
everywhere i go i recall the past life with my family when i was young and they were alive.
i remember the houses we called on when i was a jw with my dad and mother, cousins etc.

I'm going through the same thing now. I'm on day two of medicine and I can't wait for it to kick in! I have found happieness outside of the cult but sometimes the memories and missing family is too much to bear. I have found a wonderful new family in my new life with my church but it's still not the same as your own flesh and blood. And my own flesh and blood wishing I were dead. So all I can offer are words of empathy. I know where you are and how you feel now. See a doctor and get happy because after a whole life of crap we deserve to be happy every day from now on! Good Luck!

1st post here, on a journey of discovery...
by kerc inso after a very, very slow process, thinking over things that were stored in a little box in a corner of my mind, i've decided to finally confirm or deny all the doubts i've had about the society.
i'm a 34 year-old married man, work as an it consultant, with two kids, ages 9 and 2. i was "born" in the organization.
so i took everything as true, never questioned anything, and did all that was asked from me.

Welcome! We're so glad you're here. It is tough to go through what you are facing now. I did it alone and caused a divorce but I'm sure it's just as hard in other ways with a spouse. You won't be sorry. For awhile you'll feel weird like you don't belong anywhere but it goes away and you gain so much. We're proud of you!

I agree to investigate joining any group before jumping in with both feet. However, Christianity isn't a high control group cult, some so-called Christians are. Please don't mistake bad Christians as being Jesus or how he expects people to be. I'm anti-Jehovah's Witness, and I'm Anti-religion for that matter. But I'm not anti-Christian. There's a big difference. God/Jesus love us and want us to love them and they don't want to be worshiped in an oppressive, mind control, cult. Please don't give up your faith in God because there are so many extremists with a bad case of religion. We are called to fellowship with other believers. Just remember that other believers will not judge you and control you.

Yes, GO! Go to college or get a degree on line. I did my AA online recently and I start summer classes next week at a seminary. I don't want to be a preacher I just think a degree in Theology will be easy for an exJW, easier than say, engineering. I actually let a lot of resentment go when I got that piece of paper. I called my dad and told him. I called and said "I wanted to let you know I received my AA in Business Management. Most parents are proud when their children graduate college so I thought you should know." He said, "I'm not proud of you Renee, and I will not talk to you in your condition." My "condition" is being an apostate.
It's not too late for you or any of us. We owe it to ourselves to take back the dreams the WT robbed from us.

Did the Witnesses you know, see "Fortune Cookies" as evil?
by free2beme ini was in a few congregations growing up and like many things in the organization, rules were often regional.
one of those issues i remember and it was something i always got a kick out of, was people's reaction to fortune cookies at chinese food restaurants.
i had not run in to it as a child, and then i moved away as a young adult and was studying with witnesses to get baptized and they would try to make me feel more welcome, by inviting me to meals with other witnesses in the congregation.

We could eat them but not read the paper inside. Also at Chinese restaurants we had to turn the Zodiac menus over and sit our plates on the white part. Looking back on my childhood it seems so funny that we did that. The forign waitress coming over to a table of over dressed janitors with all the menus upside down on the table what must she have thought? makes me chuckle.

serendipity - I must be poor in some area because I don't have one. I don't know if it's money, looks, brains or what. But that's the one thing I want that seems the hardest to attain.

Did anyone experience that feeling at the end of assemblies, or C/O visits?
by dido ini`m new on here so don`t know if this subject has been covered, but i was wondering if anyone else experienced that overwhelming feeling at the end of assemblies, or when the c/o visited and gave his talk, there was a different feeling in the air, and i always thought it was `jehovah`s spirit`.
now i`m out and have learnt a lot about the borg, and know all their dastardly deeds, i can`t understand what that feeling was.
it can`t have been his spirit, as i don`t believe now that the borg is the `truth`.

I've wrestled with the same. God I don't believe was there because he isn't what the WT says, HOWEVER, I do think that God is with true believers individually and when you were concentrating on spiritual things God probably was in your heart. I think you were feeling Gods Holy Spirit, but it had nothing to do with the CO talk. I think He was letting us know he loved us even while we were in there. Praise him that he finally drew us out.
Second thought. I get the same feeling after a Zig Ziglar, Dale Carnagie, John Castoro, sales meeting. Any kind of pump you up talks with a group of people that are on the same side as you are feeds a frenzie. Humans like hype. We like to be motivated. Unfortunately JW talks were motivating us in the wrong way but none the less, we were motivated in those conventions. Songs, and prayers, all give people feelings. I think a lot of it is no more than that.
