I agree with Yerusalem, there were many of the higher economic class than thought in Vietham. My platoon segeant had been a electrical engineer. My squad leader was 25 and a graduagte of Colorado University, and yes neither of them made it home. As far as a disproportionate numb er of minorities being in most companies and platioons i served with the minorities were just that, minorities. Most in the company were middle class, and several like myself were volunteers. in my platoon alone we had 16 volunteers not draftees. Maybe that doesn't say a hell of a lot for our brain capacitiy. but that is how it was.

The Real Reason so many rich white men got out of service
by SixofNine in... in vietnam, as explained by tom delay (r)texas :"he and quayle, delay explained to the assembled media in new orleans, were victims of an unusual phenomenon back in the days of the undeclared southeast asian war.
'so many minority youths had volunteered for the well-paying military positions to escape poverty and the ghetto that there was literally no room for patriotic folks like himself.
' satisfied with the pronouncement, which dumbfounded more than a few of his listeners who had lived the sixties, delay marched off to the convention.

The Society has given up on "holiday witnessing"
by dothemath in.
up until a few years ago......every dec. km had a part encouraging everyone to go in the ministry on the holidays.......christmas day, etc.. no one ever got too excited about it in our cong.
.........it was pretty much a joke to everyone even when commenting on it during the meeting part.. that no longer seems to be the case..........haven't seen any parts like this for a few years now......i guess they've given up completely.. the meeting part usually included some "fine experiences"......but i have heard exactly the opposite from some who actually tried it one time.. have any of you ever went in service on christmas day?

Holiday witnessing was one of the things that started to open my eyes. No one hardly ever and I mean ever went out on xmas. Thanksgiving was another one too, In all the years I can only remeber one Thanksgiving wherewe had a good/bad turn out with most of the normal regulars out. One new years day my daughter and I placed 27 mags, and we were the only ones out in the whole congregation. I brought this up with the book study conductor who wasn't out, no elders were out, no ministerial servants, no pioneers. After all the talk about how good it is to go out on holidays, i realized it was idiots like me and mine who were the only ones out. We met that New years day at the hall, didn't go in because no one but us showed up
The elders and po likes to flaunt there supposed fervor for field service, but really didn't do much at all. our treatment at that hall (spring valley, san diego, sweetwater, was the thing that really ripped my eyes open, i guess i should thank them.

Gee if two congregatins shared the building and it was insured, just who gets the money??? We know who will have to rebuild, and probably borrow money at no interest (heh heh). anyone out there know just what may happen in a instance like this? Buff

Did you ever had any TRUEl Friends in the WTS?
by Rick Aust inhow would you discribe a true friend?
and do you think you ever had any real freinds while you were there?
i think its hard to have a real freind if you need to be careful about everything you say and do.

my wife sometime back (2weeks) went into the hospital with chest pains, was kept for observation, tested, iv'd and finally let go. She got the flu there, but hereis where the love comes in. From the congregation no calls, no stop bys, nada, and believe me i pointed that out to her. She received a lot of support and help from old worldly friends, some as far away as texas, florida, ohio etc. but here at home from the congregation, nothing.
The cong was informed, at the book study, so no excuses. Hopefully this will help to start opening her eyes. She had a close friend or at least she thought so, nothing from them not a call, nothing. This is from the same people we stood by during some very hard times for them, we didn't forsake them or turn away from them. But now she (my wife) realizes they were never the good friends she thought they would be. Lesson learned or at least hope she is learning from this. Buff

how do you have a relationship with God if he doesn't answer you.
by buffalosrfree ini sent this to a friend who told me he stlll attends meeting so that he can keep a close relationship iwith god> he admits to praying a lot and said as the dubs do that it draws him closer to god.
i asked him when you see someone in the park or the street or wherever with their head bowed, and mumbling, are they talking to god and drawing closer to him.
i also askew him to explain how praying to god draws him closer to god, because god doesn't talk back with you?

Ask them to show you in the New Testament where disciples are promised a paradise earth. Or if any one is going to live on a paradise earth. Not the old testament but the new.

The Revolving Door; Does Nobody Notice?
by shamus inthink about a typical dub.. you get brought into the truth.
the person that brought you into the truth brings in, say, 2 people.
yourself and another... 1 person stays, the other leaves.

In certain parts of the country, people are fooled into thinking that the Witnesses are growing in strength, just because more and more people move into an area and more congregations are created they speak of it as more and more people coming into the Trooth. It, however, is only more and more witnesses moving to a particualar area and thereby increasing the overall count of witnesses i.e. newbies (but only to that particular local).
There hasn't been any real growth here in a long time. The only people getting married are young ones pressured into it. It's comical to say the least.

My thoughts on Mexican immigrants
by czarofmischief inone of the pressing issues in the california election is (as always) the presence of "illegal" immigrants who come into our country, work under the table, and send money home.. my position on this matter, since i am a republican, might surprise you, but i favor no immigration restrictions at all with mexico!
the mass immigration would solve many problems - there are many jobs, entry level and low-paying, that americans won't take because they don't pay enough.
fruit picking, for instance.

Vermin and I do mean Vermin from the south or whereeever *i.e. illegals/invaders* should be swept back to their respective countries, the garbage is here illegally and shouldn't be helped or aided in any way. They have been the downfall of good schooling in border states and probably elsewhere. Our borders should be sealed and only people with a legitimate reason to be here should be allowed in.
