Believe in 607 BCE or you are not one of Jehovah's Witnesses

if a jw states that 607 bce is incorrect, how long will it take before the elders announce from the platform to the congregation that the person is "no longer one of jehovah's witnesses"?

I will let you know as I had a call last week from elder giving me current memorial and assembly information since I am hardly ever at meetings, only go to part of Sunday once in a blue moon.

Told him that I had questions on 607 date after watching history channel that stated 586 and from what I have researched 607 is not correct date but still checking my WT CD. I asked him if he knew this date did not match up with secular history, said he heard something like that. So I told him when I had time I would continue to research and would be great if he would do so also since his CD is newer series and we could get together and go over this, because I what I am reading makes more sense that what JW literature is quoting. So that is our plan in the future.

Jeannie, I can remember elders saying from the platform that after so many years (can't remember the years, I think it was 2 years) that if we read all the material the society gives us, that we would have the equivalent of a four year college degree.

how many of the original anointed, whose number was "sealed" in 1935 would likely be alive today?.

i've examined the general survival rate of people of this age group in the us.

Great post this was something I had pondered, however, notso deeply. The numbers just do not add up and I wonder what the new light will be one of these days or should I say Watchtowers.

So why do we need 'Bible Based Publications' then?

the wt of 15th april 2005, page 5 para 1 says 'hence, the knowledge of jehovah and jesus christ as found in the bible is sufficient to show you how to gain everlasting life.

the bible is a unique book.

WT is quoting Jesus but it was John the Baptist speaking, in the WT 8/1/91 "The Light Has Come Into The World" Page 9 states "Jesus said", using scripture John 3:36, which was actually John the Baptist speaking as testimony about Jesus. So where was the Holy Spirit guiding that WT writers and GB in reviewing all food before being dispensed, so that we have such bright light from God's Channel?

Maybe they should use bible with red lettering to highlight Jesus speaking.

WT Rule: Disfellowshipped Should Shun One Another!

two people who are disfellowshipped can't talk to one another and can't even carpool to the meeting.

Where in the scriptures does it say you have to write a letter to Society to be reinstated? How many JW's use "business" as the reason to talk with one another? If the GB would only practice what they preach in the Daily Text for Feb 28, 2005, Ps 130:3 "If errors were what you watch o Jah, O jehovah, who could stand?" As for me walking into the hall a few Sundays ago, I gave a warm smile and hello to the DF brother who keeps trying to come back then falls away. Maybe next time I will sit down next to him while he waits for the meeting to get started. Again I could not stay for the Watchtower and found the Public Talk too much, again putting down other religions, so have not been back again.

Today I shared my 607 information with a sister that has not been active for 5 yrs and she did not know about any of the real history of the teachings, she asked me to order her the Crisis of Conscience book for her when I put in my order for both Franz books, so I can return my borrowed book to another sister. I do believe the light is really getting brighter and brighter for more and more.

Why have the "little flock" only decreased by 228 in the last 17 years when their number was sealed in 1935? Per the Revelation Book page 125 in 1987 there were only 8,808 who partook of the Memorial emblems and per the Feb. 1, 2005 WT the 2004 figures show 8,570 partook at the Memorial. How old who those sealed as part of the 144,000 in 1935 be today, since it has been 69 years since that faithful day when Rutherford shed new light of the Great Crowd get to stay on earth. Even if the average age was 20 years old in 1935 they would be going on 90 years young. It would seem the older this little flock gets the more would be going to heaven, but the figures just don't support this.

I wonder when will we be having New Light on why the figures are not going down as fast as in the past, just taking 1987 figures from 1992 (8683) in 5 years a drop of 125, but since 1992 (12 years) only 113 drop in the count,of course couldnt all being replaced, or maybe so.

it's not as bad as ipalfatn i & ii, but still its based on the idea of 607 and 1914.. how have any of you ex or current book study overseers handled this problem.

i'd like not to conduct but thats not really an option.

I am also researching the 607BCE date and finding a lot of information from history website searches, just put in destruction of Jerusalem, as well as going to Jewishvirtuallibrary.org and look at the timeline as well as history. Since these are not "apostate" sites there is much information. However, the best information is on freeminds.org, under leftside column "Click and Go", then select Watchtower Doctrines, then select various options: Change of 606 to 607, Dates & Watchtower, Gentile Times, etc. especially read the letters under Gentile Times site. Look at afcministry.com, Jehovah's Witness section, and article on 586 or 607 BCE.

The search of WT CD under Jerusalem and 607 brings up only couple WT and basically admits everyone is saying 586/587BCE but WT only takes the bible not other sources. Ray Franz book Crisis of Conscience explains why he wrote the Aid Book on Chronology as a defense which does not support the 607 date just manipulates why everyone else is wrong.

Looks like a dog, barks like a dog, smells like a dog, wags tail like a dog, but it is a cat (per the society).

No matter how much you read you see the dates are correct( 586/587 BCE) but you are told it is 607BCE so just accept it because it is from the GB as Gods Word. Like the rest of the JW's on this site it is not easy but education is wonderful, read and reason with your mind and heart, and trust in Jehovah and keep in prayer for guidance, as it gets easier each day to accept that you do have a mind guided by God.

To the brothers worried how spouse will react, keep it open that you too love God Jehovah and are in prayer for direction and that your love is growing all the more for God and your spouse, this will keep in their minds that you love Jehovah and them as well and help overcome their fears that you dont. Keep Jehovah alive in your discussion and that you are still very interested in a relationship with God. I know we are all told to stay away from apostate literature but the two Ray Franz books are a must, there is so much love expressed and not trying to tear down JWs. Please get copies, hide them if you must, but read them, you will find you are not crazy for thinking like you are. My prayers are with you all.

Thanks for the reply. I have been a witness for over 20 years, I was not very clear in my post, but I am the bible study teacher, not the student. I feel like I am seeing the light for the first time and I know that my relationship with Jehovah and Jesus is the between me and them, not the GB. This will not be easy but I do feel at peace and happy with myself. Yes I will miss some who I know will shun me but at least I am being true to my God.

Thank you for the great summary. I went to the Sunday meeting, but could not make myself stay for the WT reading, just too much double talk. I have been researching for the past several months and since I have not been at meetings since September assembly where an Elder talk said only XX number would be here the next morning if Armageddon came (the number of JW's in the State), it was such a rude awakening to me. I had to admit to myself I can not say that or teach that line of thought. Then on TV was History Channel was show on the History of God and saw 586 BCE for destruction of Jerusalem and thought THEY had made a mistake and found out I was wrong. I have been researching that and find I am wrong (how could I have not double checked that) I can not agree with the line of reasoning from the Society why 607 BCE is correct. I was at that point in my Bible Study, so I have stopped the study, explaining I can't teach what the book is stating as well as what the assembly speaker said, my study still wants to study history together, not sure what to do right now. Of course I do not have the recent KM's they stopped dropping them off to my house, but I appreciated the download of the March one from other site. I especiallly like the quotes site for research. I am preparing my documentation for my reason for leaving, but I am also aware it will not change things, but perhaps the ones that I do eventually share this with may find a thought that will also make the light brighter for them as it has now been for me.

Babylonian Business Records

i have read that thousands of babylonian business records exist on clay tablets, and that these alone provide proof that the year 607bce is not what the watchtower claims it is.. since business is conducted on a day to day basis, these records should provide a continuous record of each babylonian kings reign.

is there a summary of the babylonian business records?

in particular, a timeline showing the number of business tables in existence corresponding to various kings and dates within a king/s reign?.

Just thinking what if you "hence counted back 70 years of desolation from the date that the temple was completed 516 which is stated in older WT then you would arrive at 586 B.C.E. Since the jews did not all immediately return and start building, in fact it was quite the opposite, to me the completion of the temple for full service and worship would mean more than the return of some. Just a thought.
