  i forced my husband to confess to the elders that we were having os!

  damn that was stupid ... he was great at it .

  i also made him tell the brothers that he changed a number on our temporary license tag (don't laugh!

  Not exactly stupid CONFESSIONS, just stupid that I opened my mouth at all:

  1) told ONE elder in another cong (an old friend) that I was anointed. He suggested that a medical examination determine whether a brain tumor was present. [NO TUMORS were discovered.] My having spoken to him has complicated my "fade".

  2) told ONE elder in a third cong (another old friend) that by the ORG's definition I was guilty of apostasy (for numerous and sundry heretical beliefs, some of which we discussed) and that the WTS has become the object of golden-calf idolatrous worship and that never again would I set foot in a KH. He promised he would not denounce me and said he hoped we could stay in touch.

  1874 vs. 1914

  in my study of the history of the jws, i have come across a piece that says the jw's story keeps changing.

  the book i am reading says, " it is one thing to claim that christ returned invisibly in 1914, but another thing to make that caim after you have already sopent 50 years telling people that he returned invisibley in 1874-- and then changed your mind.

  yet the jw org has done just that.

  And then the GB uses this falsehood as a credential to prove their divine appointment. 'The pre-1914 anointed had calculated that the Bridegroom, Christ Jesus was about to make an appearance...' (WT 2004 01.March, second study article, paragraph 6 (maybe).) This, as you have pointed out, is patently untrue.

  Old Soul: Yes, Ted is judging the house servant of another. And no, no anointed individual can be certain if another person IS anointed, but plenty of people claim they can tell when someone ISN'T. However, the entire WTS doctrine is severely in error. A quick (or even a long, slow) glance at Galatians 4:26,27 shows the number of anointed Christians through the years to exceed that of fleshly Israel; i.e. tens of millions... "Drunk" Rutherford got that doctrine wrong among many others (and whence came the 1932/1933/1935? Clearly not from the scriptures!).

  P.S. No doubt Ted thinks I'm a fake, too. That doesn't bother me because he is a fake and his opinion matters NOT to me.

  My Mum reports that at her Sunday meeting the WT Study was paired with a talk on relationships. In the public talk the worthy brother announced that the three parts of the three-fold cord (Eccl. 4:12) were the husband, his wife, and [NOTE THIS] "Jehovah's Organization" (!) Admittedly not in print, directly from the WTS --still, it was the statement of a "spirit-appointed Elder". When, exactly, did these people become completely demonized?

  Smart JWs

  most of us often talk about what we don't like in the jws and why we left but i think there are some smart persons/families/entire congs there who know how to play the system, they don't really give a toss about the wts ideology (or behaviour) but they stay there just to have a good social or family life in exchange for giving 5 or 7 hours to the org per week.

  to them it is a social club not a religion.

  have you seen or heard anything on this?

  Yes, indeed! The level of religious apathy in the congs has grown to the point where it is threatening to reach critical mass. It is becoming socially acceptable in many congregations to ignore the WTS' continual calls for conformity: people are determining for themselves what they will or will not believe or think, how they will or will not spend their time (and money!), with whom they will associate, etc. Many only stay to maintain family ties and friendships. At some point the non-conforming members will seriously erode the structure simply by existing outside the close control of the zealous core, thereby providing an alternative paradigm. No doubt Brooklyn is rather concerned, but it appears that the the usual heavy-handed methods are beginning to repulse people rather than retain them. (Wonder what the "Godly Obedience" District Conventions will bring -- no doubt some one will keep us informed. )

  I was baptized despite serious reservations re: the Organization ("God's sole channel"). I could not accept the WTS doctrine that Jesus was mediator for only 144 000 individuals in the whole of human history. The change in the baptismal vow (1985(?)) was really the beginning of the End for me. The continual, strident calls for reverence toward the WTS became unbearable, the doctrines proved to be unscriptural, the palpable lack of Christian love was unacceptable. At long last, it was time to jump...

  since the jw religion is sooooo restrictive, it is good to think about just how wacky this cult is.....for example, you can get counseled for buying a 2 door car as opposed to a "pioneer" car (4 door).

  Adoption and shunning

  my wife was adopted and raised in a jw family, at a young age she made the mistake of being baptized.

  as a teenager she was disfellowshiped only to be reinstated.

  we met in collage and hit it off, and after dating (which her parents didnt know about) we decided to get married.

  An "untidy" woodpile means a pile of wood which is not piled in a manner consistent with the GB/WTS standard for the piling of wood (!) [In the past, we used firewood to heat our home.]

  "Covering" refers to the wearing of a piece of cloth on the head during a prayer or when prophesying (1 Cor. 11:4-6). [Apparently, the unsubmissive wives in the Cong disliked being confronted with an example of a wife who was submissive; God alone knows what the Elders may have found disturbing about the whole business - perhaps it was because it was found in the Bible (?)]
